This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
My brand new vehicle has been stalling. Engine struggles to turn on after electrical system is down. Vehicle states that the air temperature control sensor is malfunctioning and vehicle completely stalls w/O power. Engine fails. Electrical fails.
1. 1800 miles-transmission fluid leak, the service people told me it was a known problem with 2019 Jettas, repair took 2 months 2. heater doesn't blow out warm air when traveling under 40 mph, even after 18 miles of driving 3. grinding/croaking noise like a frog at 28-30 mph and again at 40 mph 4. brakes squeak 5. trunk falls on my head unless I push it all the way up per owners manual addendum
Since day one of ownership, the front speakers on my 2019 Jetta R-line have sounded abnormal/defective. There is a huge thread on reddit regarding this issue and is apparent upon all trim levels. This rattling sound is exponentially more noticeable on the front passenger side. You can notice this defect during any genre of music if the correct frequencies are apparent in the song you're listening too, the rattle gets louder if your volume is over 50%. I took my car to the dealership to have them document this widespread concern. Both the service advisor and lead foreman sat in my car with me and it was easy to replicate the issue using the balance/fader. The technician agreed that this is indeed a design flaw and ordering replacement components will only result in the same thing. At the end of my appointment the service advisor deemed the concern as a "normal characteristic" of the vehicle. It literally sounds like blown speakers or as if they are covered in liquid! I've only called VW customer care once about this and they refused to put me in touch with my regional VW representative. I'm planning to call them again, this is extremely disappointing as it's progressively getting worse.
Trunk has randomly opened numerous times even after it has been fully closed. This has happened while I'm driving or while the car is parked, and the trunk just becomes loose and slightly ajar. Immediately after, I will close the trunk, which secures it, but then at some point it becomes loose and open again.
Trunk lid does not stay open unless it is pushed up all the way, multiple passengers when using the trunk in different occasions were hit by the trunk lid. When traveling low speed on cruise control vehicle speed will be lowered when getting close to another vehicle in its lane but if the immediate car switch lane at the same time another vehicle get into your lane, the forward collision system has a delay in detecting is there vehicle there or may not identify the vehicle joining your lane as a vehicle immediately and may suddenly increase speed as no vehicle was detected and result in a rear-end collision.
Rear trunk lid does not remain open resulting in the lid crashing down on my head when I'm putting stuff in the trunk or taking stuff out of the trunk.
