We are being told that we no longer should allow a front passenger to sit in the passenger seat due to the airbag no longer deploying. We called VW Dealership in Melbourne, Florida on 6/28 and they confirmed that the vehicle had a recall on the airbag. No one has been injured but this poses a significant safety risk to our family.

The Passenger Air Bag light comes on at random times, even when sitting in seat. It says the airbag detection system may be faulty and the airbag may not deploy when needed. There is a recall for some Volkswagen's but not mine. This light has been coming on for 2 years and it sounds like the recall but since my VIN number is not in the recall, I cannot get it fixed. I believe this may be the same problem as can be life threatening in an accident or another time. I would like Volkswagen to check and fix this under the recall that was made in 4/2023. Inspected vehicle ac system due to foul odor. In pulling back the passenger seat footwell panel I checked for ac drain blockage around the evaporator system. Drain tube was clean/clear but there was quite a bit of puddling around the airbag module located directly under the ac system. This is a known issue with the VW Atlas but my VIN was not included in the recall.

Front left tire hit curb (25-30 mph) flattening tire and deploying all side curtain airbags while driving. No damage to the body of the vehicle. The Atlas was towed to VW dealership. We requested an investigation of the issue and the vehicle has remained at the dealership over a month now. Two years prior (2019) Atlas was serviced for airbag error indicator light staying on. No safety issue was noted and a new sensor was ordered for replacement. Did not receive notice of appointment if/when the replacement part was delivered to dealership.
