Drivers side front brake line rupture when pedal was depressed due to heavy corrosion/oxidation. Front cross member broke off from frame due to heavy rust and/or corrosion. I welded cross member back to frame and replaced brake line. Spare tire seems close to breaking off as with many other components due to rust. I don't drive truck anymore due to fear of my and my family's safety. VIN number I have seems to be invalid, if you want VIN please contact me and I will copy from truck, thanks.

I took my truck in for an oil change, I was taken into the garage and shown the frame of my truck was extensively rusted. The cross member in front of the truck was rusting through. Dealer was contacting Toyota and I did the same. Opened a case up with Toyota. I was told there is nothing they are doing about this although it is the same problem they just recalled the Tacoma's for. Waiting to hear back from the dealer. Was told truck may be unsafe.

During routine tune-up (tire rotation, oil change, check fluids, etc) my mechanic informed me of a serious rust condition affecting the frame of my 2000 Toyota Tundra. He noted it was similar to Tacoma he had worked on. I was advised to contact Toyota immediately. Toyota dismissed my concern by simply stating it was 'out of warranty. The vehicle has 38,000 miles on it. Excellent condition otherwise. Significant rust affecting brake lines, leaf springs, ball joints, to name a few.

I found holes in the frame of my 2000 Toyota Tundra in 2007 and immediately brought it to Toyota. They said it wasn't covered under warranty but to watch it and it wasn't a big issue to have a little rust (this was during the Tacoma recall). Sept of 2008 I brought the truck in again since the rust was even worse they said again not a big issue but to keep an eye on it. In September of 2009 I was changing the oil and I saw that the front sway bar mount had totally rusted through and had fallen off - immediately called Toyota Corp - they said there is nothing they can do. My issue is that they have told me all along that this is not a big deal! but now its a safety issue ! it has since taken out a power steering line and there is a brake line that has been ruptured as well. Now that the truck is worth nothing I want Toyota to help me out. They told me it wasn't an issue, I believed them, now my truck is worthless! and the truck only has 130000 miles on it! this is nothing compared to all my other Toyota trucks...

1I have owned many Toyota trucks since my first in 1987. Usually the body would rot right off the chassis. Now the chassis rots right out from under the body! highlights:I purchased a 1984 truck in 1989 it had a rusty bed and I fixed it up. I purchased a new 1997 Tacoma in September of 1996, the truck had frame rot in March of 2004, I documented my complaint with Toyota in March of 2005 with Toyota motor Corp.the told me "there is no known flaw with Tacoma frames. I disagreed with them.I sold the truck in may of 2005 with 218000 miles on it with a rotten frame for only $2000, had the chassis held up I should have gotten some where around $7000 for the truck considering it should go over 300,000 miles and it started out as a $22,000 truck. Now I have a 2000 Tundra with the same problem and just as before Toyota motor Corp. Tells me the have " no known problem ".

I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra that has a rusted out and cracked rear cross member in the frame. The frame member holds the spare tire in place and while changing rear shocks at the end of September I noticed how rusted the cross member and the rest of the frame is, what is left of the cross member is cracking so I no longer have the tire under the truck. A mechanic verified this while he was under the truck replacing the power steering rack that also rusted out.my wife lost the power steering while driving the truck. The mechanic told me he had never seen the power steering rack rust out or that much rust on the frame of a truck with 88,000 on it and that the frame would have to be welded to make it right. I have filed a claim with Toyota ( claim # 0910135009 ) and was told they are looking in to it. From what I've herd and read im not the only one with this problem.I would hate to see what would happen if someone lost their spare tire while going down the highway. I have heard that 2000 and 2001 Tundra frames were made in the same place the Tacoma were and I did receive a recall on my previous truck a 2000 Tacoma. Thank you for your time.

2000 Toyota Tundra 2wd 4dr pickup. Severe frame rust. The back joint that holds the leaf spring to the frame rusted on the driver side and the spring separated from the frame. The vehicle swerved some going over a highway road dip at highway speed when the spring apparently separated from the frame. The driver side rear leaf spring is close to separating also on account of the severe rust of the vehicles frame. It is sitting at a dealership in East stoudsburg since Oct. 12 awaiting Toyota field rep and company to make some kind of decision.

Toyota Tundra 2000 - in may of this year the vehicle was to have annual state inspection and did not pass due to extreme rusting condition of the frame. Mechanic said he could easily put a hammer through the frame it was in such bad condition and advised that the hitch was not safe to use. I bought this truck new and wanted to keep it. We had only 158,000 miles on it at the time of inspection so decided to have plates welded onto the frame in several places, had to have new brake lines installed and the entire underneath of the truck undercoated. This cost me $1,087.29 and took 5 days to complete. Apparently the steel used in this truck was inferior and I believe the least Toyota should do is replace the frame (as they have done for the Tacoma which also had the same problem). I had no luck in dealing with Toyota on this as there was no recall. There absolutely should be one. This is a major defect in a motor vehicle.
