The total frame is rusted with holes, was taken to local dealership due to recall of frame, and was told there is nothing they could do because Toyota does not supply them with the chemicals nor the equipment to fix the issue, if I wanted it fixed to take it back to New Jersey were it was originally purchased. This is a hazard to my teenage driver as well as others due to at any point the vehicle may break apart causing a crash/collision injuring someone potentially death. Toyota has completely ignored all my concerns stating there is nothing they can do.
I sent a letter (attached) to the Toyota dealership and to Toyota motor corporation. This is Toyota corporate's response. It is unbelievable that a major car company able to sell and service cars in the U.S. would respond in this fashion. There is a known issue. They didn't accept the required resultant action from the corrosion recall and remedy. They simply passed by treating the frame (path of least cost and effort) and did not act in good faith now they have a callous disregard for the safety and satisfaction of their patrons. The case manager did not see the vehicle himself or view the damage or have pictures prior to his response. Hello, can you provide some direction regarding frame rust on my 2000 Toyota Tundra, ( VIN# [xxx]) ? I have contacted the dealer where I purchased the vehicle (friedrick's located in lebanon, pa). This dealer has since changed ownership and thus their store name. The new dealer refused to help me with my recall. I cannot get my truck inspected due to extreme frame rust. My inspection mechanic found this rust damage and cannot by Pennsylvania regulations, pass this truck for inspection. He alerted me to the fact that there is a recall from Toyota, to repair such rust damaged frames. However in speaking with the dealer (formally frederick's of lebanon, pa), they refused to help me in this matter. My truck has less than 150,000 miles on it, in good condition except for the rust. The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. While driving, the spare tire separated from the tire holder due to corrosion. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank straps and the subframe corroded. The dealer advised that the subframe repair was no longer available. The dealer replaced the fuel tank straps and the spare tire holder. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 113,000.
The frame was seriously rusting. Toyota had a recall for this which was not notified to me via mail. One of the argument from Toyota not to do this recall is that time window is over (at the same time one of their associate told that there is no time limit for a safety recall). The inspection department at the dealership was not including the damage on the frame in the inspection. In the recall for frame replacement, what I got replaced is the cable holding the spare tire only (safety issue that the tire may fall down) ignoring the serious hole and rust in the actual frame. Here is the picture of my frame which the condition is clearly visible.
Purchased 2000 Tundra in 2005. Was made aware of a recall by Toyota Corp regarding rust issues with vehicle frame, gas tank strap, and spare tire fastener. I brought the vehicle to a local dealer December of 2012 for the frame inspection (tank strap and spare tire issue repaired on a separate date). I was told that a full inspection took place to include disassembling the bed of the truck. I was told that no perferations were found in the frame. A spray foam kit was used to treat the frame. On 8/25/15, I was attempting to sell my truck when a prospective buyer noticed (2) significant holes in the frame located just in front of the driver side tire. The entire frame appears to have significant rust considering it is only 15 years old. Needless to say, a sale did not take place. I was fortunate to not be driving the truck with my family when a potentially catastrophic accident could have taken place. I contacted a local dealer (not the one that treated the frame). I spoke with the service manager. He stated that he would contact Toyota Corp but also stated that they may not replace the frame as it is 15 years old. He contacted me 2 days later stating that Toyota would not replace the frame or buy the vehicle back. The frame recall I referred to was not a recall according to Toyota. Rather, it was a, "good will gesture" to consumers affected by the situation. The service manager did suggest to look into finding a welder to see if they could repair it. Really?? mechanically, the vehicle is sound. I am left with scrap and out at least $4500 because I cant sell it the way it is. The important thing is that my family is still alive. What a sham. This is not right and they should be held accountable.

The bed of my 2000 Tundra is rusting out where the cross members are welded to the bed and where the bolts are connected to the frame. Toyota replaced the frame in may of 2011. I looked online and there are other Tundra owners with the same problems. I took the truck to a local Toyota dealership as requested by Toyota recall center and the service manager, head mechanic, and customer service manager all looked at the truck and said it was in bad shape and had to do with inferior metal, poor workmanship, or inferior under coating. Lakewood Toyota said they couldn't address the problem because there's no recall for the bed. If the bed becomes unattached from the frame then there could be a major accident. I was hoping you could notify Toyota of this problem because the company doesn't want to take responsibility for their inferior quality and poor craftsmanship want to put this on record so your dept can address the issue and or point me in the right direction to further pursue this matter. Frame of vehicle has rust perforation! vehicle has no rust elsewhere, but the frame alone is rotting away in certain places. Toyota's recall only cover the spare tire area of the frame, but frame fracture would cause loss of control and lack of occupant protection.

Truck failed annual inspection due to extreme rust of frame and cross members to the point of frame perforation and imminent failure. Frame directly under driver's seat rusted through where it joins the cross member under the transmission. Frame in front of passenger rear tire extremely rusted where it joins the cross member. The inspector stated this was a more imminent concern than the rusted through portion under the driver because it had a good chance of breaking with the next pothole. Leaf springs for drivers rear tire also extremely rusted. Rear differential housing rusted through on the top with oil leaking out. Exhaust heat shields and hangers rusted away completely. There was no mention of the rear cross member over the spare tire or the gas tank straps being an issue. They could be but were not the imminent concern at this point. I had just replaced the radiator/transmission cooler due to rusting through and anti-freeze entering the transmission and transmission fluid in the cooling system. There were other issues that are apparently common with the Tundra - leaking/cracked manifolds, etc. The truck is at the local dealer pending repair. Technician stated it was the worst case of undercarriage rust he had seen.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number 13V252000 (fuel system, gasoline, structure). The contact did not experience the failure; however she was concerned that she could be crashed into from the rear due to fast moving traffic. The failure and current mileage was 34,000. I believed that my vehicle's transmission overheated, so I had it towed to tri-county Toyota in limerick pa. They checked it and found nothing wrong with transmission because they refused to test drive it due to rusted off of frame, right rear leaf spring shackle. Tri-county told me to take vehicle to sanatoga auto body in sanatoga pa to have them fix it, santatoga told me about recall and that tri-county should have check on that when it was there. Tri-county wrote on my paperwork that it was unsafe to drive. I was unaware of the 90M recall. I called corporate headquarters regarding the recall and they stated that my truck was not in the system, so I gave them the VIN number. They stated to me that this welded shackle is not apart of the recall. Headquarters told me to make another appt. At tri-county Toyota to have the recall check done, which is on 7/23/2013. Is there anything that can be done?
