CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Camry used to be adorned with our “Seal of Pretty Good†but that was before an alarming number of complaints started rolling in for excessive oil consumption.
Owners are being caught off-guard with how quickly their cars are running out of oil. No leaks, no spills, just 1 quart of vanishing oil in as little as 1,200 miles. Toyota maintains this is “normal†for the 2AZ-FE engine, even though they issued a TSB for the problem in August of 2011.

I didnt receive a notice on recall of dashboard. My dashboard is sticky and has cracked. Clearly needs replacing. Please respond so we can get this matter resolved. Started few years ago.
Shiny/sticky/melting dashboard recall on Toyota Camry. My mother has been having this issue for three years. Being that she has a language barrier she was not aware of a recall. Toyota states they sent her two notices in 01/15 and 10/15, which she cannot recall receiving and wouldnt have understood if they were in english. Now she drives around with this dashboard reflecting off her windshield at night and sometimes during the sunny days so much that its hard for her to see the road. This is a safety hazard, and I believe she can potentially get into an auto accident. Toyota does not consider this a safety hazard or recall, but it should be. The warranty should remain open until all vehicles with this problem are fixed!! if my mother has an accident, Toyota should be liable!!! Toyota says the extension for this warranty ended just last month 07/18, but after the two notices in 2015 they never sent further notices.
Driving on interstate 77 South, just North of boilvar, oh, 70 mph, heard loud explosion. Thought it was a tire. Checked to find it was my moon roof. It shattered to pieces. The hole was the size of a basketball, with remaining glass cracked to the point it crumbled to the touch. No other cars, trucks, or foreign objects were near me. The glass simply exploded. There was no overpass nearby, both sides of road were woods and I was in a rural area. I bought the car new and I'm the only owner. I will contact local Toyota dealer and have it repaired as I use my car daily. Date of incident 8/26/18, time about 8:40 a.M. no injuries, other than monetary. The interior slide cover, under moon roof was closed. Moon roof was closed. No police report filed. I covered the area with plastic and duct tape while on the road. When I arrived home, I removed the distressed glass, swept the area, and will see Toyota and glass repair facility tomorrow (Monday 8/27/18).
2009 Camry hybrid melting dashboard. This is a safety issue as one can't see incoming traffic or pedestrians when driving into the sun. I have been in few close call incidents where I couldn't see pedestrians or traffic infront of me. Please recall this problem with the melting/cracking dashboard.

Sudden cluster failure of dashboard while driving, possible short in ABS control system causes loss of odometer and speedometer, jumping needle for engine temperature and tachomteter, loss of gear indicator light. Both check ABS and brake lights are illuminated. Unplugging ABS remedies engine, tachometer, and gear indicator. Still have no odometer, speedometer, and warning lights for brake and ABS permanently illuminated.
My mechanic is told me for years that I have a oil consumption problem. My oil runs out after about 1500 miles. I've taken it to the Toyota dealership several times to get it checked out and they continuously say there is no problem. I was advised to post a complaint on this board so that's what I'm doing.
Sticky dash 'notification' or lack thereof, I called Toyota today to ask about this problem, since the car is 3 months out of the secondary warranty I'm screwed and stuck with a sticky, stinking (costly -$1600) mess. I've tried cleaning in with numerous products safe for the material to no avail, thinking it was something on it. I decided today to google and see if I could find a cleaner/resolution to my problem. I work long hours and honestly didn't think it could be a defective dash. The dash has even started to crack. I live in hot, humid Alabama and picking dead flies etc from the sticky mess isn't an easy or enjoyable job. I think Toyota should replace this dash immediately, this car is finally paid for and now this... arghhh what a pain !
The "dash panels" of my car is melting and it is all sticky, due to the high temperatures, which is a danger because it can cause a fire in the electrical parts that are under it. I need your immediate intervention, so that the Toyota takes charge of changing this piece for free as it is a manufacturing defect
While driving in this 100 degree weather I turn on the A/C then all of a sudden my brake light and ABS light comes on at the same time also my odometer and RPM needles stop working
This incident happened over time and was noticed approximately 4 years back. I just didn't know I could do anything about it until today when I googled "how to treat Toyota shiny sticky/melted dash board". I've contacted Toyota and they said they have sent out a letter stating that there was a warranty extension to anyone experiencing this issue. The problem was that as an owner I did not receive any notification of this warranty. I've had very visual distraction when driving in the direction of the sun. The dashboard is constantly being damaged when wiped with a clean/wet cloth. Toyota now states I am out of luck because I missed the warranty by 13 business days. This is a horrendous business practice to not replace a known issue. It has become a hazard on the road and should not be taken lightly.
Oil consumption - my 2009 Camry is using a lot of oil. Had the oil consumption test done and they said it was fine. 2 weeks later I'm already a quart low. At this rate there will be no oil left before the next oil change. Toyota customer service said excessive consumption use is 1.5 quarts every 1200 miles that is crazy. They were no help at all. I saw online this has effected cars from 2007 to 2011. So if you own one in this year range you basically have to add oil every week or two.
Dashboard has melted and cracked, making a terrible glare on the windshield. I recently realized that many with this make/madel vehicle have had the same issue
