CarComplaints.com Notes: Owners are reporting that their engines are running out of oil awfully quick. As in, 1 quart every 1,200 miles. Toyota maintains that’s with the “normal†operating range of the 2AZ-FE while owners maintain that’s complete BS.
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The dashboard top on this vehicle has melted into a sticky mess which is a glaring representation of faulty materials used in the manufacturing process of this component of an otherwise fine car. The odor and glare off the dash is also quite distracting. Toyota should really offer its customers a very low-cost solution to this problem, if not a complimentary fix.
In March of this year I noticed an area on the dashboard. Thinking someone had spilled something, I attempted to wipe it and the cloth literally stuck to the dashboard. It was gooey. Over the next few months it got worse and more widespread to now be all the dashboard area. I am finding out that this issue is becoming more and more common. Toyota should recall the dashboard and replace this defective equipment in the vehicle. It is a safety issue in the shiny sticky material reflects sunlight back into the eyes of the driver. Additionally, keeping the car clean is extremely difficult because everything sticks to it and is impossible to remove without further damage to the vehicle. The problem has gotten so bad that there are spots where the dark material of the dashboard surface has come off and the surface beneath is now showing. I called the dealer and was advised that Toyota knew about the issue in 2011 but I was never contacted as the owner of the vehicle. The vehicle was purchased brand new and I have been the only owner/driver of the vehicle. Additionally, the vehicle is now out of warranty, so Toyota will never be responsible for their defective manufacturing and cutting corners. Please investigate this issue and ensure that for the good of the public and the safety of consumers purchasing these defective vehicles a recall is enacted.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the dashboard was melting, deteriorating, and turning into a sticky substance. The sticky substance was leaking onto components on the dashboard and the windshield. In addition, the dashboard failure produced a glare on the windshield, which impaired the contact's vision. The dealer stated that the dashboard needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.
My vehicles front dashboard has become a giant sticky mess. It is impossible to clean. As time goes on, it becomes shinier and stickier. If a napkin or tissue touches it, the dashboard "glue" won't let go of it. It traps and kills insects if they touch it. This is a manufacturers defect and not a condition brought on through user mistreatment of the dash.
I have a 2008 Toyota Camry SE. The issue I'm having is that the dashboard melts, becomes sticky and damage while this vehicle is parked in the sun. I believed that my vehicles was unique to this type of problem but recently a new report showing other individuals were experiencing this same type of problems was aired. I would like to know what can be done to resolve this apparent flaw.
The front dashboard is melting. It is becoming very sticky (even with a sunshade) and shiny during warmer days. When it is shiny, the glare can get very bad and I have had to get polarized sunglasses to block the glare. I am reporting this issue after learning that many other cars of this same make and model are having the same issue.
My dashboard is melting on my 2008 Toyota Camry le the company should pay for a replacement I have read that this is happening to a tremendous amount of Camry owners this is a flaw in the design component that the dashboard is made of. This should warrant a recall for a manufacturers defect.
I was cleaning my dashboard and noticed the interior was wiping off with it. As I continued cleaning... it left gashes... and lent from the cleaning cloth stuck to the dashboard. Recently, I notice a glare ( the same effect a mirror has when light hits it) coming from the dashboard as well. I am concerned that there could be internal problems occurring underneath the dashboard from all of the melting. I hope there is something that can be done now instead of later before more problems occur.
I have a melting dashboard that is impossible to clean. There are a lot of scratches and indentations from trying to clean it. Small bugs tend to cling to it because of the stickiness.
I own a Toyota Camry 2008, and within the last 3-4 months I have noticed my dashboard is gooey and sticky I cant seem to clean it or get rid of the stickiness. I have called the Toyota help center and they refused to help me or pay for any repairs. I explained to them how bad the damage is for only Toyota to deny any responsibility. I have went to the Toyota dealership in carson, California to get an estimate of $2,480.75 for repairs. I would think Toyota would make a recall and get this dashboard situation fixed. Now my dashboard is causing a glare on my drivers side to only make the situation worse while im driving on the road. The glare is sufficient to give me a blind spot. I need any help to get this fixed before an accident takes place due to Toyota being irresponsible.
About a year after we bought our Camry, we noticed that the dash panel was starting to get sticky. We tried wiping it down but it did not work and has continually gotten worse. It also creates a tremendous glare that makes it very hard to see out of the windshield. It is definitely a safety hazard for drivers as well as a ugly and nasty eyesore.
I purchased my 2008 Toyota Camry SE on 8/18/2012. Several days after the purchase I noticed that the dashboard was excessively sticky and shiny, so much so that the glare on the windshield made it difficult to see through the windshield while driving. I then returned to the dealership to complain about the matter, but no one at the dealership had any answers and their only solution to remedy the problem was to suggest that I purchase a dashboard cover.
Dashboard is defective and melting under the hot sun, is sticky to the touch and shiny glare affects driving the inside of this car has only been cleaned by us (never a detail) always use a damp rag never any chemical cleaners.
The dashboard of my Camry SE began to crystallize and became sticky to the touch. It is now so sticky that the least touch and nick pulls the vinyl right off. It is so shiny that it gives off a reflection while driving. It is very distracting when driving as it seems that something is in your eyes. The glare makes for a dangerous situation because your judgment is affected. This is a safety hazard and should be recalled by the dealer. I have several others with Camry having the same problem.
The dashboard of our 2008 Toyota Camry has a residue on it. We have tried cleaning it, however the more you touch the dashboard, holes appear. The dash seems to disintegrate. The glare on the dashboard is a hazard while driving. We were told by the dealership that the vehicle is out of warranty. There are several websites of people having the same issue with this same model.
