Scion vehicle was hit in an accident by another car on 1/15/2015. Vehicle that hit Scion failed to stop for a red signal and collided into Scion hitting first the right front corner of passenger side, then hit again head on. Air bags did not deploy. We have 2 witnesses that saw the accident and all witnesses including the police officer noticed the air bag was not deployed. 2008 Scion Xb. Excessive oil consumption. First noticed problem when engine light came on while braking. Stopping caused what little engine oil was in pan to move out of area of sensor triggering low oil warning. Added oil upon arrival at home; dipstick did not show any oil. This continued after multiple oil changes at scheduled intervals. Consumption is approximately 1-2 quarts in between oil changes, approx 5K miles. Brought vehicle to dealership to have oil consumption test performed. Vehicle passed, but was told that in order to qualify as an oil consumption vehicle, the car would have to consume 1 quart per 1000 miles. With only a 4 quart capacity, the car would burn all oil prior to the 5K oil change frequency leading to a catastrophic engine failure - seize. I had to pay for an oil change to have the test performed. I was told that my oil consumption was normal, which I do not accept as fact. This Scion Xb was purchased as a certified used vehicle from a dealership. I am annoyed that the onus falls upon me to prove that my car consumes oil, only to be told that it does not meet the unrealistic criteria. I have been a Toyota owner since 1982. I will never buy a Toyota vehicle again and I would not recommend the Scion brand to anyone. I do not believe Toyota builds quality vehicles anymore.

The engine oil level began to drop quickly in between oil changes. Often times a quart would be required to bring the level back to its proper point after the vehicle was driven as little as 1500 miles.

I purchased the Scion Xb 2008 new and have had all oil changes and recommended service performed timely. At approx. 45,000 miles (but after the 5 year warranty had expired, (I am a low mileage driver) I noticed that it had consumed two quarts of oil within around 1500 miles after the oil change (recommended to perform every 5000 miles). I had an oil change and took a road trip so that I put more than a 1000 miles on it in about 10 days, and when I was on a steep incline the check oil light came on. My mechanic said it was possible that the oil had not been filled properly after the change and topped it off. It was low again when I had it changed at the 51,000 mark; after about 1,500 miles it needed two quarts of oil which was added. After another 1,500 or so miles it needed another two quarts of oil, which I added. I contacted Toyota, and without reciting the initial runaround, they set up an oil consumption test after confirming it was not leaking oil. The oil consumption test is not completed - it may not be a true reflection of oil usage as it seems to be worse when driven a long distance at one time which will probably not happen during this 1,000 mile cycle. I then got a notice in the mail that they had a program to reimburse owners for the parts (not the labor) if they believed the vehicle met certain (unspecified) criteria after the owners had the repairs done for the defect which, apparently, they already know specifically exists and how to fix it. The notice said they are making as many replacement parts as possible before encouraging us to get our vehicles repaired. My numbers are not exact but the information is generally accurate. Please investigate this and have a recall issued. Thank you

1. incident the driver was driving the 2008 Scion Xb alone on East-bound I-80, approaching carquinez bridge, vallejo, when the vehicle stopped working. The driving speed was about 70 mph. Time of the incident was around 12:45 a.M. on December 25, 2014. He was driving on the 1st lane, and to the best of his knowledge, there was only one compact car passing nearby, when the car stopped all of a sudden. He tried to reach out for a tow truck without success, but later on he remembered he was an associate member of a classic membership card registered in the name of his mother. But he did not have the card on him at that time, but gave his name to aaa to prove he is an associate member. Finally, the aaa tow truck arrived on the scene around 1:45 a.M. he towed it to home, and days later had it towed to a mechanic shop, East bay auto located on North Texas street. The mechanic diagnosed the problem and said the engine got broken and the car needed replacement of the engine. 2. Scion side on Feb. 10, 2015, the owner of the vehicle received a letter of warranty enhancement notification from Scion. The owner did not take an initiative to call Scion before receiving this notification. The next day, the vehicle owner called Scion and filed a claim for engine failure due to excessive engine oil consumption. Case #[xxx]. the customer service rep at Scion arranged for Toyota dealership in vacaville to inspect and diagnose Scion Xb to see if the engine failure was due to excessive engine oil consumption. Extremely excessive oil consumption. The vehicle uses over 3 quarts of oil between oil changes (5000 mile oil change interval.) we are concerned that the engine may seize while driving, due to lack of oil, causing a crash. (Toyota issued a tsb regarding this issue in 2011, due to a design defect.)

Dates and mileage are approximate. I have been going through oil for over a year and I have less than 90,000 miles on my Scion. I also have a power steering leak. When I first start the vehicle, it makes an awful noise, but when I take it in, no one can find anything wrong. I have another 2,000 miles to go before I need to change the oil again. I checked it once, then checked it again on 11/14/2014 and it was 3 quarts low! I took it to where I get the oil change and that's what I was told - they checked for leaks - none except the power steering. I don't see the vehicle smoke nor do I smell the oil burning. I have had 2 other Toyota and have not had problems - they ran with over 150,000 miles.

After around 50K miles, I noticed that the engine oil was about a quart low when taking it in for an oil change. At the time I was told pretty much what the owners manual states about oil consumption. I've owned many vehicles in the past, old and new, and never had one that used this much oil. If any of them did use oil, it was a small enough amount that you can't tell from the dipstick. So, with their explanation I moved on. As time went on, it seemed more and more oil was being used by the engine. Now after the warranty would no longer cover such a thing, I was told that I could bring the vehicle in for an oil consumption test, which I did not do since any problem they discover would come out of my pocket. As time progresses, the vehicle is at the point where I have to check the oil every week and add oil. I learned that if I wait for the next oil change @ 3000 miles, there is no oil left in the engine. What's even more disturbing is that there is no indication on the instrument cluster that anything is wrong. I would suspect the oil light would come on at some point, but never have I seen this light, or any other light come on indicating an issue. To sum it up, there are no leaks, the engine will consume all of the oil within 3000 miles if not monitored, and there are no warning lights indicating a problem.

I was approximately 3qts low at 58K with no signs, at all of an oil leak. I took my car to Toyota where an oil consumption test was performed. I was then informed that my engine is having the oil consumption problem as listed in a tsb issued by Toyota on August 11, 2011. Because my car is no longer under the power train warranty, Toyota is refusing to cover the costly repairs.

Within the first 3 months from buying my Scion from hammer Toyota my Scion sway bar breaks and come to find out there is a recall on that, but Toyota never sent me a notice till I took my car in.then there was a electrical problem as well that something was burning inside my car within the first 3 months and then a hammer Toyota employee brings me my car and they had crash my driver side doors.my next problem is that my car is only 4 years old I bought it with 0 miles off the lot and now the car charcoal canister breaks and I bought the extra warranty on my car only for them to tell me that the warranty doesn't cover it and it cost me $1800 for them to fix it.now the next problem is that the engine is burning to much oil within a month 1 qty of oil.I take the car to get service and check the oil before the month end and its burn just about 1 qty and that's only driving within the city not driving highway.now I am getting calls from Toyota wanting to buy my car back from me for less then what I bought my car for.this car has cost me more money then anything and problems.something is wrong here for them to be calling me to buy my car back from me why is my question? after so many problems I pay my car in full and only 3 to 5 months old when all this problems started and Toyota giving me the run around each time I took the car into them and told them about the oil problem for them to tell me just to check the oil every two weeks why should I check the oil every two weeks when the car is new at the time dozen make any sense if it gets oil service every 2,500 miles.

Engine locked. My car was diagnosed with "oil starvation", which was due to Scion's "oil consumption" problem. Because I did not have my oil changes done at the dealership, they found a loop hole to avoid paying for a new engine. There has been a tsb issued on this problem and Scion refused to take responsibility.
