This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Vehicle engine stalls at stop and start condition. This has occurred several times without warning. When this happens the emergency brake comes on and the dash warning lights come on. The vehicle ignition must then be turned completely off and wait for ten seconds before restarting which clears the issue. The emergency brake must be released also. Taken to two different Dodge Ram dealers who could not diagnose and correct the issue. Both dealers reported that they could not see any error codes in the computer. This vehicle is not safe to drive, the stalling has occurred when taking off from a stop condition and stalling in an intersection. I am afraid to drive this vehicle. I have had this issue since almost new, 2022. It now has 55k miles. I paid $75K for this vehicle and am scared to drive it. I have contacted Ram Customer Service and they offer no support other than take the vehicle to another dealer. Please issue a recall, someone is going to get hurt with these vehicles.
While coming to a stop less than a half mile from my house the engine died. I had remote started the engine before leaving for work, so the engine had run for a few minutes before leaving my house. I was able to start the truck and continue driving. A few miles later I got a battery warning so at my next stop, I shut the truck off and opened and closed the driver's door. The truck restarted and everything was running normal.
This Ram 1500 is a known problem all over the internet for randomly stalling. This truck stall for no reason. This is a safety issue and RAM refuses to recall the vehicle or buy it back. You could be driving 20mph or 65 mph and it could stall. Then the car need to be stopped and put in park in order to restart it. I refuse to subject me or my family to this safety hazard driving on the road
Vehicle shut down while driving slowly after a stop sign. Occurred on first trip of the morning, cooler weather, at a slow speed within neighborhood. After stopping at a stop sign, and pressing the gas pedal, the vehicle shut down. I had to steer it (power steering off at this point) to the right and barely was out of the intersection. It went into park, emergency brake engaged itself. It took several minutes to get the vehicle operational again after following the on-dash instructions to disengage the emergency brake and start the vehicle. It started after 1 failed start attempt. The 2nd attempt is what allowed me to get the vehicle operational again. Whole situation might had been around 2 minutes. 2022 RAM Limited e-torque, 22,596 miles
At random times the truck when coming to a stop under 10 mph will stall and shut itself off and engage the emergency brake. It shifts itself into park and to start again you have to push on brake, release emergency brake, press ignition switch and put car back into drive. This happens sometimes multiple times a day or once every couple days, whenever it happens we nearly get rear ended because it stops the truck so suddenly. The truck also has engaged the emergency brake at 60 mph, jolted the vehicle and we had to coast to the side of the road. At this time it did not stop the truck instantly and thank God no one was right behind us. We have taken it in twice already to get it fixed and we were told they couldn-??t replicate the problem along with they updated the computer so we wouldn-??t have any further problems yet we still are. This truck is going to get either us hurt or someone else hurt and it-??s the only vehicle we have to use! I-??ve seen several other complaints online and whole heartedly believe this truck is a lemon with a big safety concern of creating an accident due to the sudden stall and shutdown of the truck at random times.

Engine stalls and shuts off at speeds between 50-60mph and requires you to shift to neutral or park to restart. No check engine light or any other sort of warning light is on after restarting the vehicle. Happened four times in a two mile stretch after having been driven to, and around town approximately 20 miles.
After stopping at a stop sign. Started to go through and my engine shut off. I had to release the emergency brake for some reason to get the engine started. It also happened 2 other times while turning left or right. If someone were close to me they wouldn-??t have had the time to stop. It was a dangerous situation. Thank you
While pulling out of a stop light, my 2022 Ram 1500 stalled, and the parking brake engaged while I was in the middle of the intersection. After getting the truck restarted and safely getting through the intersection, the battery indicator warning light came on and the voltage gage dropped dramatically. When I took the truck to the dealer I was told they could not replicate therefore it was in safe operating condition. My truck is one year old with only 7400 miles. Also the dealer disputes the active recall on my truck.
The HPFP on my 2022 RAM Rebel Eco Diesel is a potential failure my dealer is aware but no fix has been available. I ask each time I am at the dealership and told no resolution has been provided. This is going on a year.
In September of this year (2023), while driving, the engine stalled. Information on the Driver Information Center said to put foot on brake and press "start" to start engine. Note that I was rolling along at about 30 mph in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic in a middle lane of a multi-lane interstate during rush hour while towing a trailer at the time. I was completely blocked in by traffic, and there was no way to safely pull over to the shoulder. I tried lightly stepping on the brake and pressing start to see if it would restart while moving. This didn't work. I shifted to neutral and tried again. The engine still would not start. Eventually the truck slowed to a few miles per hour when the emergency brake came on, bringing the truck and trailer to an abrupt stop in the middle of heavy interstate traffic. Once stopped, I was able to shift to Park, step on the brake and press Start. The engine started. I was then able to shift to Drive, release the parking brake, and accelerate. After the restart, everything worked normally and I continued my trip from Chicago to North Carolina without incident. This is the second time this has happened. This exact same scenario also happened in the spring of this year (2023). I was not towing a trailer at that time.
After coming to a stop, or near stop, then trying to go again, vehicle has shut itself off and engaged parking brake 3 times now in last month. You have to then put in park disengage parking brake restart and hope you can go, sometimes takes 2 or 3 tries. I see this complaint everywhere on forums. This is going to get someone killed as they try to pull out in traffic! dealers say they can't replicate issue, and do nothing.
Engine stopped while driving down a mountain road. Dash said put your foot on brake and push start button. Car emergency brake engaged. No check engine lights or codes. Truck has stopped again about a month later same thing. Took to dealer on July 19th 2023 they couldn-??t have it happen while they drove it. No codes. Aug. 25 th 2023 while going through an automatic car wash the same thing happened again same messages still no codes.
While driving at a slow rate of speed, the engine turned off, the emergency brake engaged itself automatically, and the truck came to a sudden stop--very unexpectedly. There was a message that came on the screen telling me to put the truck in park to turn the vehicle on.
I was driving down the road and my truck shutoff and coasted just enough for me to get out of the on coming traffic and then the emergency brake automatically turned on causing my truck to stop in the middle of the road and auto shift put it into park. Fortunately, I was able to get it started again and move out of the road. I very easy could have been killed.
After a cold start, I drove 0.5 miles to an intersection. The engine stalled, the vehicle applied the electric parking brake, and would not move. The dash indicated a shift to park was required. The shift was completed and the vehicle was restarted, but in an unsafe state. The hybrid starter/generator was not charging the battery, and service was required. I have had this truck to the dealer several times for this safety problem but they can't duplicate or fix it. I believe it is the same as 23V-265, but they have not included 2022 models.
Our 2022 Ram 1500 Diesel truck stranded us from approx. 9pm-1am while traveling hours home on a remote MS state hwy intersection and shut our engine down, locked all 4 wheels & disabled our ability to put the vehicle in neutral to push from the roadway. We were left stranded in a main lane of a busy intersection at 10 pm at night. The local PD showed up and had to block traffic and our truck had to be 'pulled' onto/off of a flatbed tow truck (wheels would not turn) and hauled to the local dealer. We had nowhere to go as the local dealer was closed & no rental agencies were open so we had to sit outside in the parking lot of the dealership until midnight for a friend to arrive from our hometown to come pick us up. We are being told that our high pressure fuel pump failed and our truck is part of a recall (that still shows online as 'remedy not yet available'?) & that it may take up to a month to get it back due to parts delays/repair time. No warning lamps or message appeared on the dash prior to this occurring and we received no letter telling us to 'seek service asap'...the letter we recall receiving said the same as what appears online"? Our hometown dealer said they could not offer us a loaner since the vehicle was not in their shop, yet Ram will not tow it to them, and the dealer we left it at 2 hrs away has no loaner vehicles available so we have now had to pay nearly $300 OOP for the tow and call the corp. office to file 'cases' to REQUEST RETROACTIVE reimbursement of the tow expense & a whopping $40/day from Ram towards a rental vehicle! We have now paid nearly $1k OOP in 5 days for towing and rental expenses which only get us to 8/13 and the ETA for repair is not til 8/27 at best. This is clearly in no way a 'timely repair' of a safety recall!" We have called all 3 customer care numbers for Ram to no avail. We need their financial assistance UP FRONT to pay for these expenses while we await the repair of our fully warrantied vehicle!
Multiple instances where vehicle shuts down, immediately stopping/slowing the vehicle. This has occurred while vehicle is in motion, also in stop and go traffic. Engine will shut off immediately and throw multiple check engine/system warnings, including "Service ABS, Service Stability/Traction Control, Service Airbags. Had service appointment with dealer, but was vehicle was released with dealer stating they could not reproduce instance. Within a week, the vehicle shut down in traffic and had to be towed back to the dealer. Pictures were taken of the dash code and provided to the dealer. After a second week, the dealer response was they could not duplicate the problem.
