This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Both sun visor have failed in the past 3 years. The mount fails, causing the visor to fall out of the headliner and hang by a non-detachable wire. Closing the visor and trying to re-seat it does not always allow it to stay up. When if falls it hangs in the line of sight, obscuring the view of the road. Dealer service commented that this is a big problem. Needs redesign.
My passenger side wiper will quit working due to the nut loosening itself it has happened several times since I bought the truck. I noticed there is a recall for the year of truck I have but when I input my VIN it does not show a decal but I am having the same problems as the recall
My wipers sound like they are grinding when i use them, and are very slow. To the point to where it seems like the wipers motor is quiting. My visibility when it rains will be close to 0 if it is not repaired.
My factory windshield cracked so I had to replace it, I decided to go with OEM for the replacement, after getting it replaced I noticed the windshield was distorted and had wavyness to it, I called and the guy said it must-??ve been a defective windshield, he replaced it a second time and the same thing happened, I then thought maybe he was getting fake OEM glass so I contacted my dealer, they replaced it, low and behold the same problem, then a fourth time, yup the same problem, keep in mind these are OEM mopar windshields. it is very hard to focus on driving and very frustrating, something needs to be done because I have a feeling I am not the only one with this complaint for my truck.
Automatic folding side mirrors have failed 3 times on my Ram within the last 3 years. The internal components seem to fail and cause the mirror to fail to fold in and fold out properly which causes a loss of visibility. I've had both mirrors replaced so it is not specific to one side.
I had noticed that the rear window on the drivers side would leak a small dribble of water after a car wash or a heavy rain. The vehicle was not moving at the time of discovery. I took my truck into meador cdjr in fort worth tx and they removed and replaced the rear seat and rear window. They installed a new window seal and replaced the rear seat. They covered this as a warranty item with no charge to me.
Rear window seal has cracks. Rear window/3rd brake light leaks water into the cab. Mirrors fold but when unfolding they pop and keep trying to open even though they are all the way out already. These all happened without incident.
Driver side wiper motor not in gauging properly, not working at times or only wiping the windshield half way. This problem happens in both stationary and in motion.
As with an overwhelming amount of other Ram trucks, my rear sliding window frame has cracked. This causes water to leak in through the crack when it rains. The water leaking in can damage the headliner and could cause an electrical short in the rear of the truck. An updated window with a metal frame would be much better than the oem one and probably fix the issue everyone is having.
Water (rain, car wash, etc) is leaking through the rear power sliding window and into the vehicle and damaging the interior (headliner, seats). This is a known issue by Ram/fca and they have not recalled them yet. This can be a safety issue when driving. I'm also concerned that if water sits inside of the liner can it cause mold to form" also can it short out any electrical to the window" when I noticed it happen to me the vehicle was parked.
Steering- popping/ grinding noise when turning to the right. Slow turns in town and turns on highway ramps. Have taken truck to dealership with no resolution twice. Electrical- backup camera stays on after putting vehicle in drive. Computer-radio-phone resets itself every couple of weeks since I bought the truck with no fix.
When vehicle shifts to reverse the side mirrors tilt down to show parking lines. When the vehicle returns to drive, the mirrors tilt up back to the factory reset position rather than the position previously set by the vehicle operator. The driver may not notice the mirrors are misplaced until they are on the road. This is a safety issue. The driver has can reasonably expect the mirrors to return to the previous position. All other cars with backup mirror tilt return to pre-set position. I have contacted Ram and they claim this is the intended function of the mirror / electronics. My local dealer confirmed that Ram says this is correct function and that the safe return of mirrors to pre-set position is only available with a higher luxury trim option.
Speedometer and entire instrument cluster stopped working, wipers started working, transmission would not shift. Message on cluster stated to get where you're going and don't turn engine off or it may not restart. Driveability was greatly reduced, power steering seemed to be less effective. Error and warning messages from all the electronic modules flashed on the driver display in sequence. Dealer starr motors of suffolk, Virginia indicated that without an active condition they cannot troubleshoot and repair so they sent us back out on the road with this vehicle. Error code U1817 is displayed as a non-active historical diagnostic trouble code. Hitting a bump in the road seemed to trigger momentary return of cluster functionality, with a return to non-functionality shortly thereafter.
My windshield has been replaced 4 times in the last year. It is due to be replaced again. It appears to have stress fractures. I had a very small pea sized pebble hit is and it caused a crack that looked as though it was going to come through the windshield.
In October 2019, the uconnect system in my 2019 Ram 1500 began to malfunction. It started with gps coordinates being misaligned to my current location, but quickly progressed to malfunctioning in all aspects of the system. On December 30, 2019, the entire system failed, rendering a black screen and no ability to control the critical functions in the vehicle (maintenance, lighting, climate, or safety cameras). Without the uconnect system, it is impossible to modify any of the setting for the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated that the video screen on the console went blank and the contact was unable to access several settings including the defroster. The manufacturer stated that the issue would be addressed during the fourth quarter of 2019 which was still pending. The vehicle was taken to (cobleskill Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram 5709 2444, NY-7, cobleskill, NY 12043 (518) 234-4000) but was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 7,500.
Drivers wiper actually comes off the drivers side of the window, wrapping around the door column, then freezes in that position. When I manually push the blade back into position it either flies off the window again or freezes 1/2 way. This was in snow conditions. Was unable to use wipers in snow storm. Truck was in motion at 70 mph.
