This issue is apperently so well know, it has its own name. HEMI TICK. The bolts on the exhaust manifold break, causing an exhaust leak. The sound of the leak is where the term "HEMI TICK" gets its name.

On 5/27/21 while driving on a highway 295 in Virginia, the truck engine shutoff while driving 70 mph in lane 3 of a four lane highway. Engine would not restart and braking/steering was also affected. Diagnostics and Chrysler/Ram dealer mechanic confirmed the magnetic material on the tone wheel failed and the engine was not able to determine the position of the crankshaft so the engine stalled. The dealer attempted to address this using the W58/NHTSA 20V-475 software remediation of the powertrain control module but this failed. The dealer confirmed the tone wheel needed to be replaced. I have the defective tone wheel. I called Chrysler to report but they said this VIN # was not covered by the recall W68/NHTSA 20V-475 despite the circumstances being identical. There were no other warning lights or symptoms before this incident.

Exhaust rear passenger bolts broke last year when vehicle had 60k miles and now has 130k and drivers side rear bolt has broken. Last time the warranty covered it and now my truck is out of warranty to do the driver side. I googled it and it seems to be a problem with 2009 rams with hemi. Exhaust leak is fairly loud and goes away as the engine warms up.. just wanted to see if there is so many clams of this same part (bolt) is or will there be a recall.... Because of the bolt braking they will have to replace the head.. Its like a $3,000 plus job.

Personally, just 3 weeks ago. My 3rd engine failed. It looks like they're going to put a 4th. I own a 2016 ecodiesel 4X4 big horn. Always taken it to the dealer for maintenance and never drove it rough and rarely towed. 1st engine went out at 55,747 miles. 2nd engine went out at 112,482 miles. 3rd engine went out at 144,806 miles ever since the 1st engine failure. I've tried to have them buy it back with fca refusing everytime. After the 1st one. I knew the sound you described and knew the engine was about to fail so I started recording it in my phone. Now I have 2 video documentation on 2 separate failures. Let's see them try to explain this one. I've had a lawyer involved now because they don't listen to the little guy, so now I have to take them to court. 2 out of the 3 times my engine went out, I was almost hit from behind and had to swerve off the road.

I have a 2016 Ram 1500 ecodiesel. The computer was reprogrammed to comply with the emissions lawsuit brought against fca. After this update, the vehicle fuel mileage dropped about 18% which is less than the advertised mileage. The vehicle also lost power (I have no way of measuring) but a noticeable difference when towing. Last but most importantly, there is a terrible throttle response lag when the engine is cold. This issue has caused some near crash scenarios for me when attempting to pull out on a busy road. Specifically, when accelerating from a stop or while rolling when the engine is cold, the throttle must be pushed between 3/4 and full to get the vehicle to respond (I've read this is caused by the cold turbine). This occurs every day with the masters near accident occurring today while leaving the dealership. I have taken the vehicle to 3 different dealers and made complaints directly to fca with no satisfactory answers to address the problems.

We have been trying to get 2 recalls repaired to our vehicle for over a year now. I called this week and the dealership informed me they were a year out for scheduling and were only doing 1 recall repair per week. My truck is running poorly (no acceleration, engine is struggling. Runs ok while stationary but struggles to operate when moving be it city or highway.) and with only one dealership available I am at a loss. What are we supposed to do?

Oil cooler developed a massive leak dumping at least half the oil on the ground and on the undercarriage of the truck. Oil is on the exhaust which cause a smell of burning oil which cannot be safe. Multiple people have the same issues with this engine and parts are nowhere to be found.
