I was driving on a highway and my engine light came on, followed by my fuel sensor failing and saying that my gas tank was empty even though I had 3/4 of a tank. Now, my engine light is always on, but the fuel sensor works as long as my tank is completely full. After driving about 20 miles post-fill up, the fuel sensor stops working and reads on empty. This is a safety hazard because I can't tell how much gas is in my vehicle unless it's completely full. After doing some research online, this is a very common problem with this line of Ram trucks.

I was driving my truck on highway with my 12 and 3 yr old daughters. When suddenly the car stopped accelerating. I was able to pull to the side of the road. Turned the truck off then restarted the truck check engine light came on with a fuel sensor module warning. This happened. Before when the truck had about 27000 miles and it was fixed while in warranty. Had to replace fuel pump and fuel sensor module the truck now has 69971 miles. Someone is going to get hurt if these things keep happening

While driving I had a sudden failure of the fuel level sensor unit along with a check engine light. The fuel level sensor caused the fuel gauge to drop to empty immediately and the dte estimate to show low fuel. When new unit was picked up from the dealership I was advised that he had been selling a large amount of the specific part and to hold onto my receipt since it had a 2 year warranty.

Constant issue with the fuel sensor fail, I've had 4 fuel pumps put on the truck in the six years I've had it. At one point the dealer had my truck for a month trying to fix. I just changed the fuel pump last week, picked it up Friday and the engine light is back on today. It's a defect with the fuel pump assembly that Chrysler refuses to recall. The engine light has come on while driving on the highway and idle at a traffic light. I'm not the only owner with issue it's countless others, that's how I found my way to make a complaint.

Fuel sensor failure is a common failure with Dodge Ram trucks. Dodge Ram is very much aware of this defective part that is a monetary burden to the consumer of this truck. Once it comes on in the instrument panel you have no idea of your fuel level. Proof needed just type in 2014 Dodge Ram fuel sensor failure in your search engine on your computer!! only occurs while engine is running. Replaced at 151,880 miles and now at 162,000 it's gone bad again. Problem first appeared at 40,000 miles and I believe dealership service replaced sensor on one of my service visits and didn't tell me because I didn't have problem again until 151,880 miles. I was having other issues at time and I think they thought this would shut me up !!

The fuel gauge stopped working and the check engine light came on at 49K miles on my 2014 Ram truck. After doing research online, it's a very common problem. Most comments say around 35K to 60K miles on Ram trucks, the check engine light will come on and the fuel gauge drops to zero. At most mechanic shops, the price is around $800 for the repair. The repair consists of two options.... 1) drop the fuel tank from under the truck and replace the fuel pump w/fuel sensor. 2) unbolt the bed and back bumper in order to raise the bed completely and replace the fuel pump w/fuel sensor. This is a minor issue and happening all of the time. It's very expensive and this may have to me done every 50K miles or so.

Fuel sensor failure at 45,000 miles. Same complaint as so many others. Full tank will display as full on gauge. After only 20-30 miles the gauge drops to empty and I have no idea how much fuel is in the tank until I'm stranded on the side of the road. Must watch odometer and hope I make it to fill the tank without any mistakes.

Fuel pump sensor is no longer working. Truck has 95K miles on it and hasn't been working for the past 500 miles or so. Check engine light has come on and also my fuel gauge comes on and off constantly. I was driving home from grocery store and check engine light came on. Checked at local auto store and said I had a fuel pump that had gone bad.

The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that after refueling the fuel tank to the full level, the check engine warning light and fuel system warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the fuel gauge read empty. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel sensor located inside the fuel tank was defective and the fuel tank needed to be replaced to fix the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 33,000.

Last year they did an emissions update on my truck. Since then there is terrible accelerator pedal lag. I already had a dozen or more close calls when trying to pull into traffic. It takes literally 2-3 seconds after I press the accelerator for the truck to start moving. It makes driving the truck dangerous in high traffic areas.

  • 60,000 miles
At approximately 60,000 miles the fuel gage became erratic and the check engine light came on and has been on since. The trouble message system indicates a fuel level sensor fail. I researched this issue and a lot of other Ram owners indicate this problem. It is an expensive repair requiring the bed to be removed (cost to repair near $1000). This is also a safety issue due to potentially running out of gas while traveling unless the owner is diligent about tracking mileage and filling up each time the milage reaches 275 miles.

2014 Ram pickup with 68K miles. Driving with 3/4 tank of gas on a freeway at 65 mph and the fuel gauge went to E and the check engine light came on. Then a fuel level sensor fail warning popped up. Called dealership, said it was a known problem and they replace a lot of these a month, ballparked cost to be around $1,000. Spoke to several local mechanics that said the exact same thing, known problem with the sensor that requires the tank to be dropped to fix. When tank is full, truck functions fine. Once tank drops to approx. 3/4 of a tank, everything comes back (check engine light, fuel level sensor fail). Chrysler cannot be putting inferior parts on their vehicles and expect consumers to pay for their greed.

Fuel sensor fail occurs when tank gets to halfway point; once it fails the tank appears to be empty and a check engine light comes on. Me, along with thousands of other drivers experience this. My vehicle started experiencing this with only 50,000 miles, this shouldn't be happening and this is a defective unit. A failure such as this can cause headaches to drivers by giving them a false sense of what is actually being presented to them on their instrument panel.
