NHTSA — Steering Problems

2009 Pontiac G6 (Page 11 of 15)

CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 is starting to have the same problems as previous model years, including the headlights blowing out due to bad connectors.

The wiring harness connections aren't a big deal to replace, as long as your dealer or mechanic doesn't charge you an arm & a leg to "diagnose" the problem.

While driving on the interstate at 70 mph I lost all power steering. I had to pull over on the side of the interstate and place the car in park and shut it off. Once I cycled power and started the car back up the power steering worked. I then started driving and the problem happened again. It happened a total of 5 times within 200 miles. This problem caused extremely hard steering at high and low speeds which put my family in danger along the interstate.

Power steering will fail to engage on start up of car 70% of the time and when it does it will stop working while traveling down the road 100% of the time. It will happen no matter what speed you are traveling. Some 2009 Pontiac G6's are under GM recall 14V153000 but my VIN number is not in the recall even while doing the exact thing the recall specifies.
