Brake lights come on when pedal is not depressed. Brake lights do not come on when pedal is depressed. Cruise control is deactivated spontaneously. It occurs intermittently, sometimes not happening for weeks or just days. But continuously for the duration of my trip, should it be happening.

The car's brake light switch randomly activates and causes the brake lights to illuminate and the cruise control to turn off. If you tap on the brake pedal, the switch may work correctly for a few seconds or hours until it fails again. This is a potentially serious safety issue because the car behind me will not see my brake lights activate when I try to stop my car because my brake lights were already illuminated before I applied the brakes. Thus, it is likely I will get rear-ended or at least cursed by the driver of the vehicle that is following me. This is also a nuisance because I cannot use my cruise control on many occasions and it prematurely wears out my brake lamps.

The vehicle brake lights are constantly on while the car is in drive. When I apply the brakes, the brake lights turn off. This happens at all speeds and has been an ongoing problem since I purchased the car used with approximately 43,000 miles in December 2011. The vehicle mileage is now approximately 73,000 miles. Applying dialectric grease to the contacts of the BCM seems to temporarily correct the problem for a few months. After which, the problem resumes. This is a major safety issue while I am driving at 65 mph in heavy traffic on the highway. I don't mind periodically greasing the BCM to fix the problem, but what worries me is that there is no feedback from the computer alerting me that my brakes lights are not working properly. The problem has occurred at least four times in the past, and each time it was discovered by a friend following behind in another vehicle.

While approaching a stop sign I pressed the brake pedal and was almost rear-ended due to my brake lights not coming on until brake pedal was fully depressed down to the floor. I continue to have this problem and now have to brake later to be able to press the pedal down enough to illuminate the brake lights. Thus putting myself and others in danger of a possible accident.

The brake lights remain on continuously, and occasionally turn off when the brakes are depressed. This happens intermittently; I was driving behind this vehicle and watched the brake lights go from functioning properly, to full-on. I took the car to my local shop, and was told that it was a problem with the body control module. This same vehicle is also exhibiting intermittent "service traction control" issues - I am unaware if this is related to the brake light / body control module issue.

Well it seems the problem that was supposed to be fixed back in Sept. 27, 2011 with my 2008 G6 is back (11/4/2013) see correspondence below. I paid $113.14 at pete baur and the problem is back at 75,000 mile (only 20K miles later). The car is a hazard to drive. The brake lights stay on until the brake petal is pushed. Then they turn off. What a messed up way for a safety system like brake lights to fail. The cruise control doesn't work anymore. I also had to remove the third brake light fuse because the third brake light would stay on all the time and the the car would be electrically dead when I would go to start it. The battery was not drained at all. It would just be dead until I gave it a good jump. And another thing the key fobs are totally messed up. They barley work anymore. What a piece of junk this car is. Oh, also the sevice traction control come on randomly. I can't beleive no one has been injured yet. If I could afford to buy another car I would. I don't let anyone else drive this in my family. GM - never never never never again no matter what they are selling.

The brake lights won't turn on when I press the brakes. They automatically turn on without pressing the brake. Due to this issue the cruise control cannot be set. I have seen cars swerve to miss me when I am braking because the lights don't warn them. This happened in 2010, Oct 2012, and is currently happening 11/6/2013.

When I am driving down the road the brake lights are always on while I have my foot on the accelerator. When I go and hit the brakes the brake lights go off. This is the opposite of what they should do and on a number of occasions I have nearly been rear ended.

Hello, I have a 2008 Pontiac G6. Starting in August is when this issue was brought to my attention. My brake lights are staying on when im not even touching the brake. I have had people stop me & ask me if I am riding my brakes at all because my brake lights remain on. I actually had someone tell me that my brake lights were on & then when I came to the redlight they went off when I was actually stopped. My cruise control isn't working either. I called the dealer who I bought my car off of & he said he also has 4 other G6S that range from 2007-2008 that are doing this same thing & he is unsure how to fix it. I called other dealers & they said that if the dealership who I bought the care off of doesn't know how to fix it then I need to contact GM. I called GM today & they told me I need to take it to a dealer. I have called the dealers around me & there is only 1 GM dealer & that is who I bought the car off of & he said he doesn't know how to fix them. I have a 20 month old daughter who rides in my car everyday & safety is the number 1 thing. I saw there were recalls in 2005-2007 but nothing in 2008 on brakes. I am not the only person who is having this issue there are 4 other cars at the dealership where I bought my car. This is something that needs to be checked into. I bought my car because it had good reviews for safety regulations. Please help or give any advice if you can.

Was driving on the highway when I tried to set my cruise control. It would not engage. I'd noticed this before but thought little of it until someone almost rear ended me. Luckily the driver behind me was nice enough to pull up beside me and inform me stating, "hey, you know your brake lights aren't working. Its like while you're driving they're on but when you brake, they turn off, it's kinda weird." Once getting to my destination, I had one of my friends trail behind me and observe this issue and it was indeed true. Later that night, I did some research on the internet and found many posts about this issue and decided to complain about this issue. This is a very dangerous malfunction. I could have lost my life or caused someone theirs.

Brake lights illuminate when the brakes are not being depressed. When this happens, the cruise control fails to operate. Slight application on the brake pedal causes the brake lights to go off. Cruise control will work if you drive with your foot lightly on the brake pedal. Drivers behind the effected vehicle have no idea when the vehicle is actually stopping because the lights are illuminated a majority of the time. To my understanding, earlier models have experienced this same problem. What's the hold up in recalling later models with the same dysfunction"??"

Brake lights are on all the time until I press down on the brake. Then brake lights come back on after a few seconds. -cruise control works when the brake lights are off, but only for a few seconds because of the first issue. I have had trucks beeping at me and cars flashing lights at me from behind because brake lights on all the time and on the highway it is worse. This is a serious issue and is going to cause an accident to someone or rage drivers behind me.

This car has had numerous issues since I bought it and I have taken the car to different repair shops and none of them can figure out what is wrong but they hear the problems. The steering makes a constant popping noise when accelerating or turning the wheel, the steering wheel locks when the car is in reverse, the brakes squeak, and underneath it sounds like the bottom of the car is going to fall out. It's pretty sad when you take this car to different professionals and they can't figure out what is wrong with the car but they clearly see there is a problem. This car is dangerous and needs to be recalled. Who wants to make payments on a car with numerous issues that can't be fixed.
