Replaced blown passenger headlight (lowbeam), then noticed that the wiring to the light was melted with a burning smell. Also several error codes for airbag, engine, tire pressure monitor illuminate on dash. Do not buy this vehicle.

Brakes have a warped feel. Brakes have pedal fade, once the warped feeling shows brakes grab and release as the warped area goes around. Have replaced brakes approximately every 10,000 to 15,000 miles since the first repair at 71,000 miles. Car now has 151,000 miles on it. It is time for it's sixth set of brakes (both rotors and pads). I have seen this to be a large trend among other G6 owners.

I have received (2) recall notices. 1 recall 13036 for BCM and bas system for brakes and 1 other recall 14152 for transmission shift cable. First came at the beginning of July/2014 and the other the middle of July/2014. Both stated that parts are not available and it has been over 60 days since I received the notices but the recalls were issued May 16, 2014.

The dealer stated that the manufacturer did not have an estimated date as to when the parts would become available. The contact had been waiting on the parts since July of 2014. The contact had not experienced a failure.

My wife, my child, and I were on our way home when suddenly the traction control on my wife's 2008 Pontiac G6 stopped working while rounding a sharp corner going down a mountain just a few miles from my home. The car slid sideways to the left mid turn and left us completely sideways across both lanes. I was in a panic as it happened so fast, before I could react a large truck rounded the corner coming up the hill, he quickly hit his break and veered toward the ditch, luckily he was able to stop about 3 foot from the side of our car. His passenger side front tire went off the road in an attempt to stop before hitting us. After taking a deep breath and praising the lord for sparing our lives I quickly shifted into neutral and shut off the vehicle, then immediately turned it back on and noticed the traction control warning had turned off. After quickly checking with the driver of the truck to make sure everyone was alright, we proceeded home in the death trap we call our vehicle. It was the single most scariest moment of my entire life. One month prior (in July) I had received a recall notice (recall 13036) from General Motors that states they know about the problem, but do not have the parts for the solution. They claim the stability control, traction control, engaging and disengaging cruise control, panic braking, and park shifter may disable while driving the vehicle. Also the brake lights may not illuminate when pedal is pushed and will stay illuminated when the brakes are not in use creating an extreme risk for a rear collision. Again they state that they do not have the parts to fix the problem, but offered no solution for us while we wait for them to get parts. I called my local dealership in late July to inquire about the recall and was told the exact thing the recall states. Again, offering no solution or even a rental car for my family.

While traveling on I-480, in the state of Ohio, the brakes on my G6 were not functioning properly. I was unaware that this happened until I exited the freeway, and a man who was traveling behind me told me what he observed. My brake lights were on as I drove; and not on while braking (exactly opposite of how brake lamps should operate). I went home, tested the brakes again, and they did exactly as he said. When the brake pedal was pushed, the brake light did not go on. I repeated the same action 3 times and then the brake lights began to work properly. I received a letter from GM dated July 2014 approximately two weeks ago. The heading of the letter states, "important safety recall." Upon receipt of the letter, I immediately contacted my local dealership and was advised that they did not have any information about recall 13036. Although the letter plainly states that my car is recalled, the dealership advised I must wait until they had the information, the brake lights had not been an issue at the time, and I was willing to wait. However, I had experienced problems with the cruise control disengaging, and I turned it off, and did not use it again, as I found that to be an easily remedied patch. The recall includes the body control module, which affects both the cruise control and my brakes. I called GM today and they got in touch with a local dealership who gave me a rental car to use today until the problem was solved. Upon returning home, I received a call from the dealership advising GM may not pay for the rental. GM is aware of this problem. My two children and I could have easily been run over by a semi truck while traveling on this busy freeway. GM is well aware of this issue and I hope no lives are lost due to their negligence. I do not believe it is the consumer's responsibility to fix a problem created by GM. Updated 4/24/15

The brake lights come on for no reason and speed control ceases to function. When the brake is pressed the brake lights shut off, thereby not functioning when they should. In addition, if the brake is pressed slightly the cruise control will function. The dealer replaced the brake switch and it worked for only one week. Di-electric grease was applied to the computer harness pins and that also worked for but a short time. Very dangerous.

Brake lights remain on when the brake pedal is not pushed, but go off when the brake pedal is pushed, just the opposite of what is supposed to happen. Following vehicles cannot be signaled when slowing down creating danger of a rear end collision. The problem is intermittent can tell it is happening when the cruise control does not work.

G6 6-cyl

  • 67,000 miles
The brake pedal pressure switch malfunctions causing the brake lights to illuminate when the brake pedal is not depressed (I.e. while both parked and driving down the road). This disables the cruise control mechanism. The brake lights, which are constantly illuminated, then turn off when the brakes are pressed (under light to normal braking). The brake lights do illuminate again if you continue to apply increased pressure to the pedal, however not until considerably heavy braking conditions exist (nearly activating the ABS). Under most braking situations (I.e. applying moderate pressure to the brakes) this malfunction effectively causes the brake lights to work the opposite of how their indented.

I was following my wife and noticed that the brake lights were on while driving down the road and went out when she applied the brakes. I did find online that there was a recall on this issue. I called my dealer and he said there was no recall on my vehicle. He told me I could take it in and they could charge me for the repair and then if a recall shows up on my vehicle for that, then I could try to get a reimbursement from GM. I feel this should be taken care of as it is a recall on certain 2008 G6 vehicles and obviously my car has this issue, even though he did not see a specific recall on my specific vehicle.

I hit a pot hole while driving in harvey il. One of many because the city never patches them. But on this dayi was going South bound on vincennes toward the 159st. Intersection. I tried to drive slowly through what looked like standing water and ended up being a MINIsink hole. I took it to my mechanic and he scanned it andnothing came up. So he said it wasbeast to takeit to the dealer it was probably a computer issue. I drove it that day and the check engine light goes out. Then 2 days later I hit a small bump 10 miles per hour over smooth tracks and the engine light came on. Now it comes on only if I have a qt tank of gas or lower and I hit a bump. Or if im stuck in traffic on going upward on a hill it will do it.. I took it to tom kelley Buick in fort wanye. They fixed a stabilizer link one of many recalls and an alignment. I got it back and as soon as I want over a small bump at 15the light came on.the dealer told me after I gave him 400 dollars almost that he fixed that stuff and it never acted up. So the didn't address my problem. I try to by Pontiac or at least GM and my last 2 Pontiac seem to have been ruined and turned into money pits for problems nobody can find. Im a loyal customer and can U please check the accelerator pedal system becauseyour transmission has already been recalled and your ridiculous adjustable pedal is causing Y sensor to read wrong.will U check it. Im in the Chicago area and its impossible to avoid all bumps and dangerousto have your car lose power in the middle of rush our traffic. I'm fed up I try to buy american and get [xxx] every time. In October 2012, my Pontiac G6 'rolled off' from my driveway, resulting in a crash. The car had been parked, and the key removed, at this time. The local dealership contacted, told me that according to their records, this car was not specifically under recall for this problem. Since this problem did occur, I wished to contact you, for the sake of safety. It appears that GM may not be fully aware of the scope of this issue.
