I purchased my G-6 used. Immediately I noticed a popping in the steering. It seemed to get worse. I took the car back to the place I purchased it. They stated that is normal for electric assist steering. I went to the GMC dealer, they stated they could not find a problem. The clunking got so bad, I returned to the GMC dealer at which time they said that the steering assembly et al had to be replaced. They replaced it under a factory warranty at that time approximately 1 year ago. About 1 month ago, the same thing started again. They told me again, nothing is wrong. The steering clunks, feels like it sticks and is very hard to control the car. I just hope that no one is seriously injured because GMC/Pontiac will not do a recall to change the system to a better safer design.

Loss of power steering. A chime and warning will occur, but power steering may still work at times. Then without warning there will be no power steering. I took the car in and the dealer stated that they do not know the reason. I had noticed that NHTSA peo7023 has documented this problem. So I brought this to the dealers attention and they stated that it probably falls into the reasoning stated in above action number.

My Pontiac 2007 G6 as vibration in the searing wheel while driving. Pontiac has similar complaints about this issue. I think it should be a recall instead of the customer paying for it. This is not something that other customers and I could create. I had gotten an estimate and the bill was for eight hundred plus dollars to make the repairs and I still have the warranty. Pontiac still wont fix it. I noticed the problem in Nov. Of 2008. Before I could get it looked at my car was involved in a hit and run. The hit and run occurred on the 12th of Dec, 2008.

The contact owns a 2007 Pontiac G6. While driving 10 mph, the vehicle made a knocking sound when turning right and left. The dealer stated that the vehicle needed an intermediate shaft. The contact feels that this is a safety issue because the noise was very unfamiliar. The vehicle is currently at the dealer for repairs. The current mileage was 48,403 and failure mileage was 44,000.

When turning slowly my car makes a clunking sound that I have found out to be the rack and pinion. I had it replaced and it is already doing it again. I have heard that this is a safety issue and to bring up my situation to you. Thanks

The contact owns a 2007 Pontiac G6. When attempting to turn the steering column, the contact heard a loud noise and the steering became difficult to maneuver. There were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel prior to the failures. In addition, the brake pedal pulsates abnormally when it is depressed. The rotors have been replaced several times. The vehicle has not been inspected to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer would not assist because the vehicle exceeded its warranty. The failure mileage was 25,000 and current mileage was 60,000.

The contact owns a 2007 Pontiac G6 convertible. While attempting to drive in reverse, the contact noticed smoke and then flames. Upon further inspection, it was concluded that the steering component was the source of the failure. She had the vehicle towed to a dealer and they replaced the rack and pinion and steering hose at the cost of $800. The manufacturer did not assist. The failure and current mileages were 41,000.

Squeak in steering wheel or column. It only happens at slow speeds when turning. Already had intermediate shaft greased. Sounds like squeaky windshield wipers. It's like something rubbing in steering wheel, I first thought maybe the sir coil. Concerned about possible airbag malfunction. Took into dealer and was told it's just plastic or rubber rubbing in steering column and not to be concerned & squeaks are not covered by extended warranty. I have noticed this problem on the internet with other Pontiac's and it's either been the sir coil or some cases even the whole rack and pinion. It's very annoying.

My Pontiac G-6 has steering problems. It started out making this popping noise whenever I turned a sharp turn. Now the popping is getting worse. I was informed through a guy at work who has an 08' G-6 that the problem is in the steering knuckle. He has taken his to the dealership countless times to get it replaced and the new parts just keep going bad. He told me the problem was because of lack of lubrication, but yet there are no grease zerks to at grease. What a very poor design, what ignorance, especially this day and age. Its common sense that moving metal parts need lubrication. I was told that the new proposal to fix it was to put a plastic shroud around the knuckle, pumped full of grease, and just hope and pray it works. I'm no mechanic but that seems pretty crappy if you ask me. I haven't had the time to take my car in to have it looked at yet, I'm hoping I don't have to pay for this out of my own pocket, because of Pontiac's stupidity. I'm hoping that they come out with a recall soon before this problem causes a serious accident.

At approximately 35,980 miles I began getting 'clunking' noises from my steering at low speeds and while turning. This is apparently a very common problem with the Pontiac G6. It is appears to be a problem with the steering column. Unfortunately I will have over 36,000 miles on the vehicle by the time I can get it to a dealership. This is a manufacture defect which if not addressed will eventually cause injury or death if not addressed by your office. A redesign and recall is required for this issue. Does someone have to die for action to be taken? additionally, the factory brakes on the vehicle are very cheap. Vented rotors are needed because they warp at approximately 20,000 miles due to heat.

  • 10,000 miles
The contact owns a 2007 Pontiac G6. While driving less than 70 mph, the contact noticed that the transmission slipped when switching lanes. The vehicle would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The dealer made the necessary repairs. On a separate occasion, the steering wheel made a loud clunking noise when it was turned. The dealer repaired the steering column. While traveling less than 70 mph on another occasion, the engine made extremely loud noises, especially while idling. The failure mileage was unknown and current mileage is less than 10,000. Updated 03-06-09 the consumer also when the headlights were on, the turn signals would activate and the headlights would go off. Updated 03/12/09.

As a consumer I am writing you this letter to lodge a complaint for the car/lemon I have been leasing. The type of car I am leasing is a 2007 Pontiac G6 4 door sedan, #. since leasing this vehicle I have many concerns of not only my own safety but the safety of other people on the road. Here are the following issues since leasing this car: 1.replaced signal switch located on steering column on 1/16/08 2.replaced right visor for mirror on passenger side of car 1/16/08 3.replaced broken cable for right rear window regulator on 3/14/08 4.replaced steering column on 7/28/08 5.replaced front brakes with high end pads estimated date 8/08 6.replaced rear left bulb for brake lights estimated date 10/08 7.about a month after steering column was replaced the steering column again was making a clicking sound when turning right and left at a slow rate of speed. 8.instead of replacing the steering column they chose to lube intermediate steering shaft instead on 1/20/09 and I will have to keep coming in when the lube wears off!! really me having to come in every month or so!! that was their response to me!! 9.replaced radio because it didn"T come on when I turned on the car the display was blank. Would eventually turn on when it wanted to replaced on 1/20/09 also in researching the steering column problem some peoples steering wheels have locked up and they were almost involved in accidents and said in there complaint does somebody have to be killed before GM has a recall on these cars?" it has been a known issue since the first model year 2005 has come out. Per dominic torres my sales rep this has been a known issue but there have not been very many complaints lodged for any recall. Per dominic it is because the steering column is electrical instead of using fluid and the design was changed in the 2008 model year. GM has contacted me and said they are not willing to lease a new car to me to replace this one. It will be re-poed shortly.

Steering much like others complain having it serviced 2X now for grease repacking at 35,000 km and again at 50,000 after hearing clunks. Thankfully it is still under warranty, salesman has advised my a redesign will probably be done soon, I have made '!@#$% sure that should this problem continue they will be repacking it after the warranty for free and if and when a redesign is available it will be put in free of charge.

I have a 2007 Pontiac G6...with 35,000 we started hearing a clicking in the steering...took it in...dealer said the grease had worked its way out of the intermediate steering shaft....instead of fixing it with an updated or improved design they put a new grease pack in it....when I asked what happens when the grease comes out again..he said bring it in and they will re-pack it.....of course at my expense.....this sure sounds like a design defect.......I have read many complaints about this problem...but GM (of course) wont do anything about it till someone's steering freezes up and they get killed...I have always been a GM guy....but im done with them...never again!

Noticed a knock when turning either left or right at 40,000 had noticed that the front right tire was wearing much faster than the others. I took it to the dealer at 44,000 since the knocking seemed to be worse they advised me the steering shaft needs replaced costing me $369 total parts & labor since not under warranty. Have looked up the steering issues and they are very common in the Pontiac G6 I feel that this should be a recalled item as it can be very dangerous.
