At low speeds the steering column makes a clunk/pop/squeak sound. The car has been checked for this twice and it still does it. It has made the sound since right after we bought the car brand new. Every time grease is put on the column it is fine for a few days then the issue comes back. Sometimes you can feel a slight bump in the wheel when it is happening.

2007 Pontiac G6 steering problem. Clunking noise when turning left to right. Purchased this vehicle in 2008 from prescott Honda, used, noticed clunking sound and prescott Honda called a Pontiac and had the Pontiac dealer in prescott AZ tell them what to do which was to grease the steering column. This was around 34,000 miles now at 53,000 in 3/2/10, the sound and problem is back.

When the power steering light came on the vehicle had to be turned off and back on in order for the power steering to work properly. These past few months I have had a problem with power steering and just the other day as I was driving on a highway I almost got in an accident because out of nowhere power steering locked up on me and I couldn't control my wheels anymore...I somehow managed to get over to the last lane and turn off my car and then few minutes later I turned it back on and it was ok...few hours later same thing...and it has been happening every day since than...I do have the 10 year warranty on my car but im not sure if that is covered under it...please do something about this...this is insane and god forbid if something happens GM is looking at a huge law suit here!

My 2007 G6 lost steering yesterday and I slammed my brakes and skid across four lanes. Luckily it was night and there were no cars. I turned my car of at the gas station then back on and the steering returned. Then today I saw the recall for GM but the Pontiac G6 is not on there. GM needs to put them on the recall also before someone really gets hurt. I also ran over a dog last week and killed it, what if that was a child?

While driving my 2007 Pontiac G6 I heard a ding, ding, ding and my power steering went dead. I'm a very big man and could hardly control the car. I was in a school zone and almost hit a crowd of 4 kids before getting the car to stop. The car has only 37,000 miles on it and is more dangerous than anything being investigated from Toyota. I have read that this has been a problem for several years and I'm wondering why you as a safety division of our country, you can bailout GM but you won't make their cars safe to drive?

I have a 2007 Pontiac G6. On at least 5 occasions I have lost my power steering. Usually while backing out of a parking spot. It also happened once when I went over a frost heave. This has all been within the last month. Last night I went over another frost heave and my service air bag came on. It stayed on the next 4-5 times I drove my car. It finally shut off this afternoon.

Steering assist motor shorted resulting in loss of power steering. Could have resulted in accident if I had been in a curve or turning. I have repaired it, but GM is not responding to requests for reimbursement due to warranty being up. Car has approx 40,000 miles. Car has also had leak in the fuel rail at 25,967 miles and a fuel pump short at 1,548 miles.

While turning right or left usually at a slow speed or from a complete stop making a sharp turn, the steering pops, you can hear and feel it in the steering wheel. It started at about 50,000 miles and has continued while getting gradually worse. I took it in way back when it was still under warranty and told that the steering arm needed to be replaced but I could not afford it at the time so I waited and now unfortunately my extended warranty has expired at 81,000 miles. Recently (just after my warranty expired!) the passenger air bag light keeps coming on and off while my husband or I am sitting in the passenger seat. We commute 2 hours a day on a very dangerous pass. We are very concerned about this. I will be checking with my locate dealer to find out if there is a recall on the airbag.

At around 51,000 miles my Pontiac G6 (2007) began veering to the left and locking up. I heard a clunking noise several days before this happened when I turned the wheel from left to right. The clunk started off somewhat quiet and then got louder and cause it to become difficult to turn. When I would brake the car would shake and the steering wheel would turn left and right rapidly on it's own. I had all my brake pads replaced, even though the mechanic said there was nothing wrong with the brakes. I had the steering rack replaced. The problem went away for 3 months and then returned. The steering wheel began locking again making it difficult to recover from a normal turn. I had the steering rack replaced again. Now 6 weeks later the clunking and shaking and steering problems are back. Complaints of this problem are all over the internet. I have had this steering rack replaced 2 times and now it needs to be done again. All these replacements have happened over a 9 month period. It is extremely dangerous to drive when this happens and needs to be addressed.-
