On my way into work this morning, the warning for "power steering" flashed on my car and the steering suddenly quit working on my 2007 Pontiac G6. I was going about 40 mph on a straight stretch through town. Luckily, I hadn't merged to get on the interstate yet. Took the car to the nearest dealership and they informed me it's the torque sensor on the electric power steering. They also stated that there was a recall for 2006-2007 Pontiac G6's, but that my car/VIN was not covered under this recall as it was built outside of the batch of cars the recall covered. I have to pay $230 out of pocket until they decide that this is an issue. This is clearly a manufacturing issue and could be very dangerous for all drivers on the highway. While driving on a residential street the power steering message came across the message board and the steering became hard to maneuver. I pulled into a auto parts parking lot and turned off the car when I turn the car back on the power steering was restored. This has happened multiple times since the first occurrence I have called Pontiac and asked about recall information only to be told that my VIN number is not included in any open recalls.I feel unsafe driving the vehicle sometimes the steering wheel vibrates and turns by itself while the car is idling.

I have previously filed a complaint and was told by the Pontiac customer service team at #1-800-762-2737. My car has less than 50,000 miles and it a 2007 Pontiac G6. I found a recall on the website, recall# 14772, which is an expansion recall from the original recall 14V-153. Pontiac is stating that only VIN number cars manufactured between April 18,2006-June 30,2006 are covered under this recall. Pontiac agreed to pay for the diagnostic and it was determined by jake sweeny which Pontiac advised me to take the car to. Jake sweeny indicated it was the torque sensor. I then, called back Pontiac to advise them what the diagnostic outcome and Pontiac stated they will not pay for the repair under the recall. I am extremely disappointed as I have read there are over 69,000 complaints on this issue and I do not believe that Pontiac can justify that my VIN number is not related to this recall. This is a safety issue and I believe under motor vehicle safety (title 49, chapter 301) this is a safety and risk issue.

My girlfriend was driving down interstate at 65 MP3 when she went to change lanes she lost power steering causing her to almost wreck with her 2 babies I have looked it up and there was recall on steering just not on my VIN but my car does exactly what recall makes them do and she has two babies it loses power steering, and there has been 12 deaths from the recall when I call them they say my Pontiac G6 isn't affected but if she was to wreck and I had it investigated I think it possibly could be.

The power steering randomly will suddenly loose power steering. This has happened several times. Power steering is restored once the car is restarted. Our VIN is not included in the recall by GM for the very same power steering issue that other same model year Pontiac G6 cars are included in. It was first noticed in 2013 (mileage unknown- amount above is estimate) by my husband who was primary driver and it would only happen when going in reverse. It would happen several times a week only in reverse and it restored on its own. I was driving it in 2014 when I was going about 30mph- it went out on me. It only restored when car was restarted.

I was driving on the freeway and went to switch lanes to the left and the car made a dinging noise and it was extremely hard to make the turn as I normally could. I looked at the display and the power steering was on the screen. When I finally made it to my destination, and cut the car off upon restarting it the power steering came back. Upon returning home that night power steering was working fine and when I went to turn from off the freeway to city streets, I almost hit a car in the far left lane of oncoming traffic because once again the power steering went out. For about two weeks the power steering could be reset by restarting the car and then finally it went out completely. What I do notice is that if my wheel is turned at 180 degrees it has no shake and I can back up and never lose power steering but as soon as I turn it left or right it locks up and the power steering goes out again. I was told I need to replace the entire steering column as well as pay for programming to get my key to work to the new column. I am extremely frustrated as GM has recalled my year make and model but my VIN number isn't listed in the recall. I hope this is fixed soon as I have done investigation and to fix this out of pocket it will cost around $750.

When the car is first started 50% of the time you will have no power steering at all. After turning the car on and off multiple times you will regain your power steering. When driving down the road the power steering will fail sometimes sooner then other times. This can make it very difficult to turn and will eventually lead to an accident. I have checked for a power steering recall on my car and at this point have not revived one. I have checked all possible causes and have taken my car to a few shops and they all tell me I need a new steering column. Many people are have the same problem and it is not cheap the fix. I believe this entails a recall before more people get hurt.

Power steering abruptly stopped working many times over past 2 weeks: Making sharp turns @ low speed into driveway/parking spot, on main roads at moderate speeds (30-45mph) while changing lanes & even at hwy speeds when changing lanes. Sometimes power steering would unexpectedly come back on by "itself" - with a very dangerous, unpredictable jerk-type motion. Other times I would pull over (very difficult & scary to steer!) & restart car to try to get power steering back. Power steering has now completely failed. Towed car to GM dealership. While waiting for callback, did research & found out about existing & newly expanded recalls for torque sensor. Dealer then called to say my car (manufact date 11/06) was not included in the recalls! they also said, that in addition to defective torque senor ($600 part/labor) that the power steering motor was also broken (addl' cost $500) so now a total of $1100 and no help from existing GM recalls! my car has the exact same defective part(s) as countless others have (some of which were included in the recalls) this is a defective part(s) issue that has already been going on for the past few years! I have already had two recall repairs completed on my car. When is GM going to make this right and include every car that shows up at dealer with an defective torque sensor" what is it going to take? GM's customers being severely injured or killed in an accident resulting from loss of control of steering??"
