When transmission get very hot it goes into a fail safe mode in which it does not want to rev or move anymore. This happened more than once and also in the interstate also. Very dangerous.
Car has very slow to no acceleration from a start. Sometimes it stops accelerating in reverse. This does not matter if car is cold or driven for a while.
While driving at 65 mph on the New Jersey turnpike, the car suddenly dropped in acceleration to 40mph. Pressing on the gas caused the RPM to rev, however no change in speed occurred. Upon inquiring about this issue, I came to find out that this is a common problem with Nissan's cvt components that the company is aware of, however no recall has been issued. Extreme weather conditions, such as heat waves, using the car for a prolonged period of time, and traveling uphill have been documented to trigger the loss of acceleration. This common flaw found with Nissan cars is highly dangerous and will inevitably result in the loss of life.
While driving a 2011 Nissan Rogue back from the dealership, the engine light came on and the vehicle stopped accelerating. The accelerator was pressed to the floor and nothing happened at all. Luckily, I was alone in the vehicle and not my wife and two young kids. That could have be devastating if loss of acceleration occurred on the freeway. This vehicle is equipped with a cvt transmission which Nissan is apparently is aware of but refuses to fix even with the mass amount of complaints that currently exist.
Car won't accelerate on freeway after driving for an hour. Also doesn't accelerate after leaving freeway and at a stop light. Scary and almost got into an accident

When we drive our Rogue for more than an hour, the transmission stops working and the vehicle loses acceleration. It will happen without warning and is dangerous, especially in heavy traffic on the interstate. If we pull over and let it sit for a minute, it goes back to normal. It is a known problem with the cvt transmissions, but repeated calls to Nissan result in being told it happened just after the warranty expired and will cost upwards of $3000 to replace. There have been recalls by Nissan for this problem on earlier models, but this seems to be a problem with the 2011 models as well.
My car has 67,000 miles and needs a new transmission... gets hot and fails losing power and makes noises... no acceleration almost had accident. This is scary and unfair I had it looked at and the cvt transmission is failing.
June 23, 2016 - I was driving on I-75 from atlanta, ga to orlando, fl going about 70 miles per hour. After driving about an hour, the car began to decelerate no matter how hard I stepped on the accelerator. I had experienced this problem before, but each time I had taken the car to Nissan, they told me that they were unable to detect the problem. I had even taken my car to the dealership on June 14th to get it "checked out" before my long drive. During that visit, I again complained of the problem I was having and they were unable to find anything. I was able to get to macon, ga to another Nissan dealership where they identified the problem as the transmission. They told me that the transmission needed to be replaced and a transmission coolant needed to be installed. I left my car there (June 23rd) and as of today, July 10th, they are still working on my car. First there was a delay in getting the part, although they promised the part on June 24th. Now they are having problems with the machine used to fix the transmission. Although they provided a loaner, I still want my car. As others have mentioned, these transmissions are a known issue in Nissan and in most cases, you will not have an issue until you are out of your warranty. Nissan has issued an extended warranty (110,000 miles) on all models through 2010, but nothing on the 2011 Rogue. My car was at 93,000 and > 5 years, so now I am stuck for close to $5000 to get it repaired.
The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Rogue. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated to 40 mph. The vehicle emitted a noise in the rear before the failure occurred. The contact was able to coast the vehicle onto the road shoulder. The engine light illuminated after the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed. The transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 73,347.
June 20, 2016: Traveling at 70 mph on I-70 in Colorado, less than 50 miles West of grand junction, co, my 2011 Nissan Rogue, suddenly lost power on a gradual uphill climb. No engine light or warning light was noted on the console. On steeper inclines, the Rogue would not exceed 35 mph. Had to activate the hazard warning lights to avoid vehicles, including semi-trailers, from running into the rear of the Rogue. This was a nerve-wracking safety concern all the way to grand junction. Took the Rogue to the Nissan dealer in grand junction. The diagnostic review concluded that the Rogue requires a new transmission and cooler. $4655 total. The Rogue has 59,750 miles. Have become aware that the cvt transmission in Nissan vehicles, including the Rogue have a history of failure. After this experience, my wife informed me that she had the exact same problem on a trip from denver, co to reno, nv in March 2016.
Nissan has had and continues to have transmission problems, they did a recall for transmission failure up to year 2009. I have a 2011 Nissan Rogue with 80,000 miles and I just received a call saying that my transmission needs to be replaced. This cvt transmission has always had problems and Nissan knows this but they wont and know one in the govt will do anything to hold them accountable.
At 67,000 both cv boots are blown, had to replace, now the cvt issue with the transmission, no acceleration, transmission gears reverse and drive, I want a refund. I purchased this used car 1 year and 3 months ago. Unsafe I have my children in the car. Vehicle can be at 60 mph, and then drop to nothing with no warning. I want a full refund of the purchase price I paid for it I am terrified to keep driving

I bought a used 2011 Nissan Rogue in October 2015. On October 28, 2015, after about 2 hours of driving down an interstate, I heard a loud noise. I looked down and saw my tachometer was revved up in the red zone (6) and the car was making a loud, frightening noise as though the engine was about to blow up. I let off the gas and the tachometer stayed at 6. frightened, I pulled over several lanes of traffic and off the road. I turned off the engine and sat there shaking. After about 15 minutes, I turned the car back on and the noise was gone. I pulled back out onto the interstate and the car would not accelerate, which was exceedingly dangerous as there were oncoming semi's approaching at 70+ miles per hour. It slowly picked up speed and I drove 40 mph because if I went faster than that, the tachometer would jump back up into the red zone. I made it to a rest stop where I sat for a half hour with the car off. It happened again in November 2015 on the way to visit my son two hours away. This time, the check engine light came on. The code indicated the car needed a new transmission. It is still happening. The check engine light does not always come on and if it does, it turns itself off in a day or two. I commute two hours to work and back a day and with the warmer (70 plus) weather, the problem has worsened. I have to stop halfway to work and halfway back to let the car cool off. I've also noticed a "stuttering", in which the indicator on the tachometer moves rapidly back and forth around the one and a half mark and the car shakes. This goes away at higher speeds but occurs when I am inching along in stop and go traffic. I took it to a Nissan dealer yesterday (6.8.16). We were finally able to duplicate the problem (and got video of the transmission revving up and staying at 5 and the loud noise while losing power down to 20 mph). Warranty company refusing to pay so far.
My 2011 Nissan rouge started decelerating about 6 months ago when I had approx. 81,000 miles. I was driving on interstate 95 doing 70 mph when the power suddenly decreased and the car began to shake and making banging noise. Fortunately I was near a shoulder and could pull over. As days went on this occurred more and more frequently until it happened each time I attempted to drive over 40. I am now forced to take back roads wherever I go so I don't risk causing/being in an accident. The car is unsafe and I'm on borrowed time before the transmission goes completely. I can't afford to replace the transmission right now and I need to get to work. I started researching the problem and come to find that this is a known, dangerous defect by Nissan. I'm upset and extremely disappointed that the car maker hasn't recalled the affected cars and fixed them. It's only a matter of time before someone is killed.
After driving the car for a couple of hours continuously, especially on the highway, the transmission bogs down and the car will barely go. Nissan has a tsb out on this issue for several of their models that have the cvt transmission. My Rogue has 120,000 miles on it and I'm on my third transmission due to this problem.
I am beyond upset and down right frustrated with Nissan. Both of the Nissan I have owned have had the transmissions go out in them. One at 120,000 miles and the other at under 85,000. This is a safety hazard and could potentially kill someone! I just had a used transmission with 22,000 put in and the same [xxx] issue is happening. I owe over 10K on my vehicle and am going to have the hardest time selling this. Frankly, I feel guilty selling this to anyone. I have been jipped along with countless others from what I have read online. The car will not accelerate in reverse and in drive when the pedal is pressed all the way to the floor. The slip light will come on and make an awful whining/grinding sound. Brought car to mechanic because car was making grinding noise. After checking, mechanic found cvt transmission failing. Car is only at 35000 miles. Not cover by warranty because I had the car pass 60 months. Apparently this is a issue with cvt transmission with previous Rogue. Warranty was extended for models up to 2010. Not 2011 model, even though is the same exact car.
The contact owns a 2011 Nissan rouge. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle jerked and completely lost power in the middle of the road. There was no warning indicator. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and recommended a new transmission. The contact decided to tow the vehicle to a local dealer who diagnosed and replaced the transmission. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall and was out of warranty. The transmission was replaced. The contact stated that the failure recurred two days later and the vehicle was towed back to the local dealer; however, the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. The failure mileage was 62,000.
