Rejected in safety inspection for rotted undercarriage. I am told by my body shop that this 2005 Altima has drainage holes that actually allow salt, sand, etc. to go up and in. Not all comes out evidently and I ended up with a 6" x 8" rusted hole and am told iut goes almost through floor boards.

Paid a LOT for this car in 2005 and never expected this kind of problem with a Nissan! Really disgusted. Body shop says definitely not the first one same model and year with exact problem. Nissan better address this issue or that is the end of ever buying a Nissan again!!!!

Very disappointing to pay $28K for a new car and find it rusted out 7 years later. I put undercoat on it when new, and only drive it every other month. So, it sat in the garage for 3.5 years. I washed the underside once a month during the spring and winter to fight the salt on the roads. Should not have this problem. People always told me Japanese cars were much better than american, what bull! Never had a Plymouth or Dodge rust out, even after I drove them for 10 years. Last year I spent $2K+ on repairs, just so it would pass state inspection. This was my first and last new Nissan. Love the v6 power, but what a headache otherwise.

I was trying to locate and annoying rattle when I happened across hundreds of complaints about Altima floor pans rusting through so I thought I'd cross my fingers and check. No luck and mine too had rusted, although not all the way through...yet. I've owned the car since May of 08 and rarely drive in the snow (I kept my beater pickup for those days) and now I can't believe what I'm seeing. I've been vigilant about keeping it clean and thoroughly washed, usually once a week. I've never heard of a car rusting out in 6 years. I'll be at our local Nissan dealership tomorrow to have them tell me "too bad" as well, and then we'll start escalating from there. I was looking forward to having the car for at least 10 years and have spared no expense to keep it maintained just to have it fail in the worst way.
