While driving down the street the power steering on my 2010 Mercury Milan went out. It started with a warning on the display "service power steering now" followed by "service advance trac" along with the warning bells. The steering wheel was very difficult to turn. Turned the car off and waited a few minutes. Turned the car back on and immediately received the "service power steering now" followed by "service advance trac" along with the warning bells. I have researched and found that the cost of repair is about 2K. I am very upset that there was is a recall for the same item but only for the 2011 Milan that used identical parts.

While driving the vehicle the advantagetrac and service power steering warning messages appeared in the information center. I drove to my destination and turned the vehicle off. A half hour later I restarted the vehicle to see if the error codes were reset. At this time the "service power steering now" warning came on and there was no assisted power steering making the steering wheel extremely hard to turn. I had the vehicle dropped at the dealers where I was told there was a recall on the 2011 Mercury Milan for the same issue. I was further informed by the dealer that the 2010 Mercury Milan was not included even though both model years had the same power steering components and systems. The loss of power steering on a vehicle while driving is a serious and dangerous issue. Ford's recall needs to be extended to cover the 2010 Mercury Milan model year also.

Approximately 3 months ago I got into my car to go to work. I drove the vehicle on the city side streets to get to the highway that I travel to work. The trouble light indicator came on indicating poor steering and the vehicle did seem to be steering incorrectly. I returned home and drove my wife's vehicle to work. Next day I went out to check to see if there was a problem. I started up my vehicle and tried to drive the vehicle out of my parking place. The power steering won't work at all. Now I do not have a vehicle to get to work. There has been a recall on the 2011, 2012 Mercury Milan for this same problem. Why hasn't there been one for the 2010"??"

Power steering does not work. Was working fine and just turned the car off one night and the next morning I could not steer. Its a 2010 Milan with 78,000 miles on it. I'm worried to see what this costs. Ford should stand behind these troubles.

A few weeks ago, I had a hard time steering my car at an intersection. When I tried steering, the car would shake as I turned. Although the roads were wet, my tires are relatively new, so I new it wasn't the traction. I turned off the electronic steering assistance and it started turning again. A few days ago, I was turning, the roads were damp, but not wet and I had my steering assist on (it goes on by default). When I tuned, the car went the opposite way of the direction I was turning. I had to turn off my steering assist in order to regain control of my car. There were no alarms, notice or alerts on my control panel. Also, when it's been a hot day or a cold day, the car won't start.

Complete power steering failure!! my wife parked the car in the driveway on 12/6 as normal. The next morning she attempted to leave and the car had no steering. Car started and runs normal but no power steering at all. The car cannot be driven. I investigated posibilities that evening and checked all relevant fuses to no avail. I began researching potential problems via internet and was amazed to learn Ford knows about this serious issue. In fact, they have recalled multiple models and years but excluded the 2010 Milan even though it has the same steering system!!! I contacted the dealer where purchased and they offered no help except to tow it in and they will dignose. There is a plethara of complaints and investigations regarding this problem. All the information I've found is very clear..this is serious problem and significant expense ! this must be addressed by Ford and corrected. They know the problem exists with this steering sytesm but are denying their responsibiliteis to customers for fair resolution!

Received a message "power steering assist fault" and the wheel became very hard to steer. Did not receive a service warning and we were driving with our grandchildren in the car. Very disturbing. The vehicle has about 60K miles and the steering go out"???? the charge to repair is will over $2K. No warning. Very dangerous!!!! must happen often because our local dealer stocks the item but any other time I had maintenance done the part had to be ordered. Hummmmmmm"

While I was driving my child to school out of no where right before I turned the corner to get onto the freeway service drive a bell went off in the car and on the screen it said power steering assist failure and at that point I could no longer steer my vehicle. I had no control over it. I literally had to back up and it took me 15 to 20 minutes to get back into my driveway because I couldn't turn the wheel it was extremely hard to do.

The power steering in my car has failed and it is only 6 years old. The dash reads "power steering assist fault" when I turn it on and I cannot move the steering wheel. The car is still being financed, yet the steering has gone out and the cost of repair is through the roof. There has been a recall on 2011 Mercury Milan power steering for the same issue. Why have the 2010 not been recalled? this is ridiculous. My car is worthless and unable to be driven or sold.

While in process of a turn the vehicle lost power steering abilities. It started to retract from the turn then lost the ability causing the vehicle to go off at an angle and hit a parked vehicle. 2 days prior to the accident the it was discovered that there might have been an issue that would need addressing because it felt like the vehicle lost power steering briefly. After the accident we discovered a recall for power steering problems on the vehicle but my vehicle wasn't part of that recall. There was a police report filed and a claim. We don't have the paperwork yet as this just happened. I have included pictures from the accident.

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. When the ignition was started, the power steering failure indicator illuminated. The dealer was unable to locate a failure. Shortly after, the failure recurred several times and the power steering seized completely. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the electronic power steering module failed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and no repairs were made. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was 130,000.

The vehicle was in motion on a highway going 65 mph when suddenly the advancetrac light illuminated and a message appeared (power steering malfunction service now). I had to use great force in order to turn the wheel just to exit the highway and safely park my vehicle. The estimated cost for repairs are completely ridiculous for a person who is financing the vehicle. In addition, the later model Mercury Milan have been recalled for the same issue; however, the 2010 Milan were somehow left out of the recall and that is completely asinine. It should be included immediately in that recall.

My car was parked. When I started my car, the power steering didn't work. I got a message on the dash to the effect: "power steering default." I turned off the ignition switch and started the car again. Same problem. I turned off the ignition switch again and waited two or three minutes. When I started the car again, everything seemed to work ok. My wife says it has happened to her before.

Beginning in July 2016, I began to experience a "power steering system failure" message upon starting my 2010 Mercury Milan. Given that it was an infrequent occurrence, I followed the manual's instruction to turn off the car, wait for 10 to 15 seconds and then restart it. This action would clear the error code, and I would be able to steer the vehicle. However, within the last few weeks, the error message has occurred much more frequently. As such, I took the vehicle to the local Ford dealership, and was told the power steering control module needed to be replaced due to an actuator being stuck open. Please consider adding the 2010 Mercury Milan to the already mandated recall.
