Power steering light came on and immediately power steering stopped. Luckily I was in a parking lot and not on the highway.

Electronic power steering failed. Vehicle became difficult to steer for my daughter driving the car. She was driving on local streets. The effort for steering was increased greatly and could have led to an accident. She managed to pull over safely. There is a current recall on the 2011 Mercury Milan #15V340000 that is for the same issue. Steering gear was replaced to resolve issue.

I was able to drive it without power steering to a family members house. After leaving the car there for a few days, I started it up and everything seemed fine. While attempting to make a turn in an intersection the power steering suddenly failed on the car. Vehicle was traveling at approximately 15mph at the time of the incident. Afterwards the "power steering failure" and "service advancetrac" lights were displayed. Incident nearly resulted in an accident. This is a serious safety issue. Upon investigation I have found that the same issue occurred on the 2011-2012 Mercury Milan with the same part as the problem (steering motor sensor) that resulted in a recall for those model/years. As it is the same part it should fall under this same recall, however it doesn't. this part is contained within the rack and pinion system requiring replacement of the entire system at a cost of $1800-$2000.

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that while at a stop and attempting to make a left turn, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact had to apply excessive force to the steering wheel in order to steer the vehicle. The "power steering assist fault" was displayed across the message board. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 114,072.

"power steering assist fault" would display on my lcd screen on my car. I would normally turn it off my vehicle and turn it back on and it will work fine. Now, the warning come out everytime I start my car leaving my unable to use it. I have read hundreds of complaints on different websites. I don't know what else we need to do to have Ford issue a recall for this.

Went to take my car out of the parking space. Went to turn and the power steering failed! could not turn wheel left or right! at the same time this happened a warning sign popped on my dashboard saying something about power steering failure. Not impressed at all. 2010, 11 and 12 models are all having this same problem! only one they recognize at the moment having a problem is the 2011 because apparently more people need to get into a car accident or killed with the 2010 and 12 models before they recall them! I am 7 months pregnant and feel fortunate I was not on the interstate when this happened and in a parking lot! I hope the "investigation" their working on goes by quickly before anyone gets seriously hurt!

When driving down the road, the steering suddenly locked up and I could no longer steer. Messages saying service advancetrac and power steering failure were displayed. I checked the fluids and everything was ok. After researching this problem online, I saw that the 2011 Milan was already under recall along with many other Ford models. The 2010 Milan needs to be added to the recall as the issue also occurs with this model. This is definitely going to be a safety issue as I do not have $2000 to get this fixed and I have no other option but to drive without power steering until the recall goes through.

Steering does not turn. It came without warning. I turned on the car to go to work to find out it doesn't work. Can't turn left and can't turn right. It is very very hard to turn the steering wheel. I was driving to work and a light came on which I have not seen before as well as two console messages that read "service power steering now" and "service advancetrac." My steering became noticeably heavier as I drove and then completely lost power steering as I pulled into a parking lot. I had to stop in the middle of the parking lot and slowly with great effort I was able to angle the car into a parking spot. There were no noises. I towed the vehicle to a near by auto shop and they diagnosed a faulty electric power steering and quoted me $1750 for repair.

While at college my son called and said the power steering went out in his car. Took it to a repair shop which referred me to a dealer since they whole steering gear system had to be replaced and the computer would have to be programmed. This is going to be between 1800-2500 repair. I found this site and it seems to be a model wide issue. I am hoping that the recall on the 2011 and 2012 will be expanded to include the 2010.

While I was backing out of my driveway on Saturday my power steering went out. There was a message saying power steering assist fault. This has happened 2 times before and when I shut the car off and turn back on the message goes away and I have power steering back. This Saturday was not the case, the warning didn't go away and the car was not drivable. I had the car towed to local Ford dealership and they told me it was the steering gear and it would cost around $1800. I've research the recalls and found a lot of complaints about this same issue. In fact the 2011 Milan has a recall for the same issue!
