Hello.this is regarding my 2018 Jeep Wrangler jl rubicon. I have been reading extensively about the frame welding recall (issued 10/5/18) that unfortunately does include my vehicle. We spent over fifty five thousand dollars on this Jeep, and are extremely disappointed in the build quality. Just to make sure that the welds are bad, I looked under the Jeep and several extremely important welds (some involving the steering bracket) were not done properly, and will fail. Also, some of the welds have several pocks in them and will develop rust. If a weld isn't done properly (or repaired) properly, it will fail and that for fca to release a vehicle, in this condition to the general public is disgusting. I have a wife and a baby on the way' my wife no longer feels safe in our new Jeep. I am writing you to voice my concern and warn others about this unsafe vehicle. We no longer drive the Jeep and it sits in our driveway. I cannot drive a vehicle that may fail structurally and injure or kill us.

My Jeep has been drifting and steering has been awful on highway, ESC and service lights came on. All welds under the vehicle are absolutely horrible, and I absolutely do not feel safe risking my life and my child's life in this vehicle with welds and components that look as if they will break or fail at any moment

Soon after purchasing my 2018 jl Wrangler in April I began experiencing steering issues. When veering left or right to change lanes, take a curve, etc. The steering wheel would 'lock' up and I'd need both hands to pull it back to keep the Jeep in my lane. It only lasts for a few seconds. I had received notification that it was time for my first maintenance appointment after purchasing the Jeep, so I called to schedule that and also told them about the steering issue. One day prior to the appointment, my dashboard alert notified me to "service the electronic stability control". since I already had the appointment, I knew this could be addressed at that time. Then a few days later I received the safety recall U48 for steering intermediate shaft. I called the dealership and let them know that I had received the recall notice and that I already had an appointment scheduled. I took the Jeep in for the appointment and the problem appeared to be fixed at first. Then it happened again about a month later and then again just this past week. It's a scary situation. This last occurrence I was taking a curve in the road with traffic coming the other direction. The steering wheel 'locked up' and I had to forcefully use both hands to pull it back into the lane.

Steering wheel off center and tracks left to right on a straight road. Steering correction is constantly required to maintain directional stability. Build date March 2018. Took delivery from phillips Chrysler Jeep in ocala Florida on Sept. 20 2018. Present miles on odometer 750 miles. We mentioned to dealership service department immediatle after purchase and was advised steering system was not calibrated correctly at factory and dealer proceeded to realign front end. However steering wheel is now off center in oposite direction. They also indicated that off tracking is symptamatic with all terrain tires.

Recently purchased a new 2018 Jeep Wrangler jl unlimited sport 4 door. Lately, I have been drifting off lane to the right. I have to correct my lane adjustments and I am not exactly sure why. Vehicle has less than 600 miles and already drifting?! there has to be an issue with the vehicle.

There is excessive play in the steering system. The steering system on this also has excessive wandering making it hard to anticipate where the Jeep is going to go. This issue gets worse as speed increases. The Jeep is unsafe to drive at highway speeds and I have almost been in multiple wrecks due to it. The Jeep dealer has no fix for this and says it is normal. I will be looking for aftermarket fixes so I can drive my $50K Jeep on the interstate without having to worry about wrecking at any moment.

My Jeep Wrangler unlimited jl, has 976 miles on it. Since day 1, the steering wheel has had a lot of play (an inch or more left to right). It will not track straight and it wanders on the road. It is difficult to keep it in the lane without a lot of correction. It is uncomfortable and is unsafe. Jeep tech at dealer said Jeep told him that it was purposely built that way -- I think not! no vehicle should have that amount of play - it is unsafe. Driving between two simis on I-285 in atlata is very scray as it is difficult to keep the Jeep in the lane. Dangerous. Getting no help from dealer.

Same issue as many others: Loose steering especially at highway speeds, and dead spots off center. Requires constant correction to stay in lane, which at highway speeds and next to trucks can be terrifying. Former Wrangler jk owner, so I know it's not a "Jeep thing". seen many reports of lose ball joints, weak track bar welds, and incorrect alignments, in addition to the new aluminum gearbox, as contributing to the issue. Jeep needs a comprehensive steering fix for the jl, and soon. I believe this issue started for builds around April and later, in response to reports steering for some was locking up. I believe Jeep went the other direction and simply made the steering loose instead of fixing the actual lockup issue. Jeep must come up with a true solution that results in no lock ups and tight, reliable, solid steering.

Jeep wanders all over the road like steering is loose - hard to keep going in a straight line. Felt it during test drive but thought it was "just a Jeep thing". after driving many miles and talking with others it appears it is not normal. Thousands of reports about it on various forums including car and driver magazine. Actually feels like Jeep is out of control at times. Scary. Dealer claims no issue since no tsb/recall and nothing they can do about it. This is a safety risk!

The steering is loose requiring me to constantly correct the path the vehicle is taking. There is inches of play in the steering wheel with no corresponding reaction. The dealer has no solution. Vehicle has a dead spot in steering. About 1 inch from side to side where steering is unresponsive. Issue becomes progressively worse as speeds increase. At highway speeds it is very difficult to keep vehicle going straight in one lane. Steering requires near constant input and over correction which causes more swaying. Any driving is difficult to with one hand. When on highway passing a large truck, the loose steering is very difficult to control and makes the vehicle unsafe to drive. Dealership service department states the steering as normal and drives similar to new vehicles on the lot. There are videos on youtube documenting this issue with independent technicians coming up with non oem endorsed repairs. The service advisor states that these repairs can not be performed because fca has not authorized any repairs and would void warranty. Please investigate so that fca can recall these vehicles for a safety issue that manufacturer is ignoring.

The Jeep is uncontrollable at high speeds and the steering is highly flawed. We were not told when we picked up the vehicle two weeks ago that there was a problem with the steering. There is excessive play in the wheel so there is about 10 degrees of turn where the steering is not affected. The vehicle basically bounces back and forth in the lane and it is hard to control. The faster, the more difficult to control. When our son was trying to merge onto a highway he said it became uncontrollable and he the Jeep started oscillating back and forth until he lost control. The Jeep spun out and luckily no one was hurt. The vehicle cannot drive in a straight line, takes excessive input to control, and is unsafe for low time drivers. We have taken the Jeep back four times and the dealership now has possession of the vehicle with no fix available. They have not admitted nor denied there is a safety problem other than saying they are working with fca reps to find a solution. This vehicle should not be on us highways. This is an unsafe vehicle and there is significant risk to life and property. These vehicles are being delivered with a flawed steering system that has excessive play which invites loss of control at high speeds. Please immediately take these vehicles off the road. Jeep should not be allowed to sell them as they are totally unsafe. The Jeep jl Wrangler (2018) is unsafe!

Steering has excessive free play on center. The steering wheel moves 1" is each direction before wheels respond. It if very difficult to keep the vehicle in the lane at highway speeds. The vehicle has 1,100 miles on it. The steering was this way from new. Took the vehicle to the dealer on 9/24 to be repaired. Dealer said it is operating as designed. Many 2018 Jeep Wrangler jl owners are complaining about the same issue on the internet forums.

Steering control became significantly impaired & difficult to correct at highway speeds / moderate right hand curve / minor pavement imperfections, which almost resulted in multi-vehicle accident. Overall, vehicle control at highway speeds is very poor. Steering wheel has a dead spot, and highway wonder can be significant. With no steering wheel movement the vehicle's trajectory can change, which requires continuous corrections.
