Our Jeep has 8000 miles on the odometer. At highway speeds, when the tires would hit a bump, the vehicle would start to vibrate severely, what others have been calling the "death wobble." This happened numerous times over the past month. Applying the brakes caused the shaking to stop. It's a very scary feeling. I took the vehicle to the dealership and I was given a loaner to drive, as the tech said my Jeep Wrangler was unsafe to drive and the steering damper needed replacing. The part is on backorder.

Jeep is experiencing intermittent steering lock-up while driving, typically at faster speeds such as 65mph. The steering feels al though the engine seized or power steering completely failed. Once speed slows, the steering engages again. It's very dangerous. This has happened both on the highway and on residential roads.

While driving on highway at highway speed and changing lanes Jeep hit small bump in the road and started shaking violently. Steering wheel had to be held firmly to maintain control. The problem was resolved by slowing down to below 40 mph. Prior to this incident Jeep was being flat towed by a motor home. We thought a back tire of the mh had blown. We pulled off at the next exit, upon inspection no issues with the motor home. We suspect it was the shaking of the Jeep that was shaking the motor home.

Last week, I drove over highway expansion joints while traveling at highway speed. My steering wheel began to shake violently and the entire front end began to shimmy and wobble. I immediately moved from the passing lane, through the center lane, to the far right lane. There, after reducing speed, the shaking stopped. I experienced this same problem this week while traveling on interstates at highway speed, 5 times within the same trip. The shaking began after hitting a seemingly small imperfection in the road. The first time, the wobbling and shaking must have been visible from the exterior as the car behind me dropped back and those to the right of me cleared the way for me to move over. The other four times were not as severe and the shaking stopped after I reduced speed. I called the Jeep dealership and spoke with the service department from the road to see if they had heard of this problem and to see if the car was safe to drive. The service rep claimed to have never heard of this issue and attributed it to a tire balance problem, although I assured him it was not. When I arrived at my destination, I researched the issue on the internet and found a problem called "Jeep death wobble" that perfectly describes my experiences. Videos posted on youtube also matched what had occurred. I plan to take my Jeep in for service when I return home. Date listed below is most recent incident and the day I contacted the dealership.

Have only had the vehicle for 2 weeks and less than 500 miles. Traveling on interstate at 65 mph, when we came to a gradual turn in the road. Steering wheel locked up and was unable to turn right. Vehicle went onto the rumble strips and almost off the highway when suddenly the steering "released". this caused the wheel to jerk to the right. Fortunately didn't go off the road or overcompensate too much once it released. Absolutely terrifying. Concerned about driving the vehicle on highways. Spoke the dealer and they said may the "alignment needed adjusted". this isn't an alignment issue. It was light an electronic control that was preventing the wheel from turning.

Upon hitting bumps in the road I experienced a vibration in the steering wheel. It got worse and became a violent shake. I took it to the dealership, where I bought it a month prior and they said they couldn't find anything. This is occurring more frequently. The dealership told me that the new jl haven't had any reports of this like previous models having the ' the death wobble.'

This Jeep wanders on the road. The steering feels loose. I constantly have to fight it to keep it in my lane. I have taken it to 2 dealers and they tell me that this is the way the new drive by wire steering is handling these days. I feel it is unsafe and it makes me want to sell my brand new Jeep.

At highway speeds over 55mph, upon hitting a slight bump or imperfection in the road the steering wobbles violently. This is only corrected by slowing down. This can be a problem on a interstate highway.

Death wobble. At highway speeds when hit a bump the front end shakes violently you then have to slow down to 40 mph to make it stop. The vehicle is brand new and has only 1,200 miles on it. It is going to the shop for round 2 of repairs which I am sure will not remedy the issue. It has the Jeep death wobble and we don't feel safe driving it.

On September 14, 2018, I leased my brand new Jeep jl sahara 2018. I signed up for Jeep app and immediately noticed a recall for my car - 2018 jl track bar weld, raising concern. On October 21, 2018, with less than 1000 miles, I was driving on local highway at @ 60mph, hit a bump and my entire steering/front of car began violently shaking. I immed. Slowed down to hope re-align and gain control of steering/car. It was the most frightening experience as I was going 60, had to slow to 35, while others were speeding up behind me, in addition to being scared & feeling unsafe in an out of control car. I called Jeep downingtown immed. On 10/22 to bring car in that week - 10/26. I looked it up and clearly is the known issue called the "death wobble". on 10/25, again on highway @ 65-70 mph, I hit a bump, experienced a yet worse violent shaking/out of control steering of my car. I pulled over as could not gain control slowing down. I got back on highway only to experience it yet again! I was shaking, scared as I could have been killed in addition to others!! I immed. Called Jeep dt and brought car into service. It is now 28 days and my car is still in service!!!. my experience with the dealer has been nothing but a nightmare. They tried 1) recall, 2) service software bulletin update, 3) steering stabilzer part and 4) tie rod part, none fixed problem. I last heard from them on 11/9 when they ordered tie rod - 13 days ago, unacceptable! I filed a case with Jeep Chrysler fca on 11/3- #57311328 and have had poor response. I have documented every day. I filed complaint with pa attorney general, no response. I have contacted lemon law lawyer and will be pursing action. All I want/deserve is to drive a safe car, as I'm paying for that! as NHTSA I hope you can ensure Jeep takes these cars off the road and refunds us to ensure no one gets killed!

When driving above 50 mpg, the Jeep would shake violently after hitting pothole. The steering wheel, and front end rattle, and the wheel wobble, feeling like they are going to fall off the car. It only stops when you slow the vehicle down below 40-50mps.

The Jeep begins to shake and eventually wobble at highway speeds. The onset is quickly and does not typically go away without drastic reduction in speed. It has happened 4 times in the pat week. I have a video showing the event but am unable to upload. It starts with a small shaking and then increases in intensity to a rocking of the vehicle with steering stability issues.

We have a loose/play in the steering on our 2018 Jeep Wrangler jl rubicon, mostly at highway speeds, it's difficult to keep the vehicle in it's lane when driving, it requires constant steering wheel correction to keep the vehicle going in a straight line, it feels like the steering wheel has to much play between turning the wheel and the tires turning. We have had it to our local dealer here in jacksonville, fl and they haven't been able to resolve this issue.

Any description of the Jeep death wobble I have read is exactly what I am experiencing. I experienced my first incident while driving my 2018 Jeep Wrangler unlimited that I had purchased two months earlier. At highway speed's between 70 and 75 miles an hour if the vehicle hits a bump or a joint in a bridge well often begin to wobble and become almost violence. It will subside plan decreasing speed or holding the speed for about a mile or so. I brought it in to the Jeep service department and they said they see nothing wrong with the vehicle. I am at the point now where I can almost make it happen on command. My next step is to bring the mechanic in for a test drive with me. From what I've read I expect nothing to be done to help me out. I will also note that there are no modifications whatsoever to my car.

Vehicle exhibits vague, wandering steering. It could be described as jittery under certian conditions like bumpy roads while passing trucks. More alarming is the so called death wobble that occurs under certain conditions while traveling at high speed on highways and will not subside until the vehicle speed is reduced drastically to an unsafe speed for interstate travel.
