We own a 2018 Jeep Wrangler unlimited (4-door) rubicon, original owner, currently has 2625 miles on it. The vehicle wanders on all road surfaces. The steering is very loose and it is difficult to keep in in the lanes while in motion. This excessive play in the steering makes for a very uncomfortable to drive as you are constantly correcting the direction of the vehicle to keep it from going off the roadway or into another vehicle. This steering issue is very dangerous. I have taken it back to the dealer for repair and they have found nothing.

Now the vehicle is unsafe to drive since this motor affects the front sway bar and vehicle stability and is not being covered under warranty do to water damage. This motor is visible from under the vehicle and in a location that is exposed to the elements.

Steering wanders terribly since the day I brought it home. Been back to dealer 2X and contacted fca 2X. Dealer recommended adding dual steering stabilizer so I did- no difference. I have changed the drag link - no difference. You simply cannot stay in your lane with this vehicle.

The vehicle will unexpectedly pull to the left while driving at highway speeds. This occurs after a few minutes of highway driving and will worsen the longer the vehicle is driven. I have demonstrated this to multiple dealership service advisers and all attempts to fix the issue have not worked. The last attempt a fix by a different dealership I was told Chrysler does not have a fix for this at this time. I believe this has the potential to cause an accident especially in poor road conditions.

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler unlimited jl has an issue with "loose steering" or " over correcting". when trying to keep the Jeep in a straight line it tends to "drift". causing the driver to constantly move the steering wheel. It is worse in areas with hills or roads with many turns. Driving down the highway in speeds in excess of 40 mph poses an issue when going around a curve. If the driver turns the wheel even the slightest bit too close you can end up in a wall.

The Jeep wanders all of the road and is impossible to keep it going in a straight line. Highway speeds are when its the worst. You wear yourself out trying to constantly correct the steering. Very uneasy feeling. Towing a small trailer is an even more difficult feat, and feels like a crash is just around the corner.

Death wobble, around 70mph a bump can cause violent shaking of the steering wheel. Only stops when you slow down to 40mph or less, making it very dangerous when you are on the highway.

While traveling on the freeway at speeds from 65-75 my Jeep will start to 'death wobble' when you hit a bump or uneven spot on the road requiring me to decelerate or come to a complete stop. My vehicle has been back to the dealer 5 times since my purchase in Nov of 2018. Five different things have been replaced and one of the dampeners has been replaced twice now. It's been at the dealer for 3 weeks straight now. Chrysler says that there is nothing that they can do at this time and referred me back to the dealer, the dealer suggested I get an attorney specializing in the lemon law. I have done so and also will be talking to the federal trade commission. So far I have lost a days work and five 30 mile trips to and from the dealership only to find out that the problem still persists. It's very dangerous to drive. The dealership said that the new ones will sometimes have a little 'wiggle' to them at times and I informed him that if I had know this I would not have bought it had I know this. I am very upset with Chrysler at the moment. I have never had a problem out of my 2015 Jeep Wrangler sahara unlimited or my 2009 Jeep ali wry. I am very disappointed in Jeep.

Wrangler

  • 100 miles
Violent steering wheel shaking and front end steering shaking when driving over road imperfections over 45 mph. Loose and wandering steering resulting in multiple steering corrections to remain straight in line on a flat straight and leveled surface. Wrangler was in dealership, not fixed, they seemed like they didn't want to deal with the issue and they are aware of this issue on other new Jeep. This issue has been ongoing since I bought the Jeep.

At 60-65 mph on two lane road I have to put constant input into the steering to keep the car tracking in the lane. The play in the steering is excessive. I have had the vehicle in service 3 times but it has not been repaired. I was informed on my last service spot. That they were aware of a problem but had no solution at this time.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the steering wheel had been loose and unresponsive. The dealer charlie's Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (725 Illinois ave maumee, oh 43537, (419) 893-0241) indicated that the safety problem was a known issue from the manufacturer but that a permanent remedy had not been determined. The dealer replaced the steering damper however, the failure recurred and the second repair was to replace the steering gear box, they updated the trac bar and realigned the vehicle but the unstable steering condition continued. A district mgr. And the service center mgr. Test drove the vehicle, provided no technical guidance as the discretion was from the manufacturer to determine a remedy. The vehicle was not repaired yet. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, had issued a recall campaign for NHTSA campaign number: 18V343000 (steering) however the contact was uncertain if the failure was related to the recall because it was excluded by the manufacturer. The approximate failure mileage 245.

It has been to the dealer 5 times for this issue.they have completed the tsb concerning the issue and it has not repaired the problem. This needs to be investigated and repaired before someone is hurt or killed because of it. My vehicle is currently parked because my wife is afraid to drive it.

problem #539

May 032019

Wrangler

  • 4,000 miles
After installation of the Jeep manufactured and warrantied 2 inch mopar lift kit at the Jeep dealership, the vehicle's steering wheel and front end will violently shake after hitting a bump at speeds of 50 miles per hour and above. This was most commonly seen when driving over bridges at speeds of around 50 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer when they claimed they could not duplicate the results. I then had to risk my own safety to demonstrate to a technician that the problem was indeed happening. This oscillation of the steering and suspension components is extremely dangerous and requires me to come to a complete stop before the vehicle will stop shaking. I also have little to no control over the vehicle when this happens until the vehicle has been slowed down substantially. The problem is ongoing and has yet to be solved.
