Steering becomes very tight and seems to lock up when attempting to turn left while driving. Then when it releases it causes the car to over steer sometimes into on coming traffic. This happens both of local roads and highways.

While driving on highway the steering wheel became stiff for about a couple of seconds, when it got back to normal it corrected into incoming traffic, I nearly hit incoming traffic, it was pretty scary cause the steering was very hard and stiff, I was trying to correct the vehicle cause it was moving towards the left even though I was trying to correct it to the right, when it loosened up it jerked hard to the left to incoming traffic, thankfully there was no incoming traffic at the time, also I noticed that when I put the transmission in gear there's no movement, it acts like it's in neutral, I have to put it back in park and reshift

Vehicles steering gets a flighty/wandering feeling as speed increases 40+ mph, especially on secondary roads. When driving around curves or over any abnormality in the road the Jeep will wander out of its lane and then the play in the steering makes it difficult to get it back in a controlled manner. The constant wandering requires constant input from the operator to keep the vehicle centered. Jeep knows that there is an issue with the steering boxes in the 2018-2010 jl' and jt's, and has issued a tsb in reference to this, but getting them to replace the steering box is a huge hassle as it seems most dealerships are debunking this tsb.

I feel very unsafe trying to keep my Jeep going down the road in a straight line. The steering randomly and often wants to just take off to either side or the other on perfectly smooth roads and generally 'wanders' for no reason. I pretty much dread it when I need to drive it now. It's basically a fight.

So today it's a little on the cold side. I jumped into the Jeep and onto the highway and get up to 60mph. The car in front of me decides to pretty much stop in my lane. Very little time to react, I try to turn into the lane to my right and the steering feels really stiff like the tire is against something then suddenly there is no resistance causing me to overcorrect and nearly lose control of the Jeep. Sitting on the side of the road, the steering feels normal. I speed back up and as I get up to around 50-60mph the steering suddenly feels very tight again, not wanting to turn more than 15-20 degrees, then it goes away and a bit further down the road it suddenly comes back. I think litebrite had a video of this a while back. I've never had any steering issues with my jl. It drives absolutely great but I have to say this is terrifying because it felt like someone was holding the steering wheel to prevent me from turning and then suddenly just let go causing over correction.

Just got this Jeep used from Jeep dealership back in July. I usually don't drive over 60 because of the speed limits around here. But I just did when I went to go visit family 2 hours away and my steering wheel seemed to lock up when I went anywhere from 60/70mph. I had to jerk the steering wheel slightly to one side so I could drive on a bended portion of the road. It's not listed as a recall but this is seriously concerning to me. I thought it was just that one time but I test it out when I drove back home and the last 6 times I went to visit and the exact same thing happens every time. Most recent time it happened was yesterday and my uncle said to report it.

Steering damper recall was completed I'm still experiencing the "death wobble".vehicle had been to dealership 6 times and get told every time that everything looks good. Problem occurs when I hit a bump or a rough spot on the road and the vehicle and steering wheel begin to shake like the vehicle is jumping on the road. Typically occurs when traveling over 50 mph and only corrects after you slow down. Issue continues to happen and and I feel the vehicle is unsafe and can pose a life threatening.

My Jeep has a "death wobble" that happens in excess of 50 miles an hour if the Jeep hits rough road, uneven pavement or going into a curve on the interstate, it will begin to shake so violently its as though there is a MINIearthquake inside the Jeep. It is terrifying. There has been a recall for this issue, but after taking my Jeep to two different Jeep dealerships in two different states, they have been unable to fix this issue. Note this is an ongoing issue since I bought the Jeep in 2019, it seemed to get better after I took it in for the original recall, but since Oct 2020 has progressively gotten worse after the Jeep dealership has worked on it. Since Oct 2020 and as of Nov 28 2020, I have taken the Jeep to the dealership for this issue 3 times, I will have a 4th under my belt when they receive some other part they say they just found and need to correct this issue.

Traveling West on I 40 in wilmington nc approx 70 mph when vehicle began to suddenly shake violently for no apparent reason. My wife became so scared as she drove, we had to pull over and I had to take over driving. She will not drive this Jeep again. I've never seen a vehicle shake so violently as if the entire front end was about to fall out from under the car any second. Not a safety issue, I think it definitely is a safety issue. 3 lane highway, 70 mph, cars on every side of you and you have to slam on brakes, or the instinct is to slam on brakes because you don't know if you are about to die or not. Please investigate this front end issue with Jeep Wrangler.

Wrangler

  • 11,000 miles
While driving, the battery voltage light came on. We monitored the voltage and noted that it was dropping quickly from around 11.7 to a low point of about 8.9. when the voltage got that low, many different warning lights came on and the power steering went out. Vehicle was in motion when this happened, on a residential street going under 20 mph. It was immediately after a turn. Cause of issue is unknown. The day before, the battery voltage warning light had come on. I did some basic diagnostics and did not locate an issue with the battery connections or battery itself.

problem #840

Nov 202020

Wrangler

  • 31,700 miles
At highway speeds I hit 2 or 3 small bumps consecutively on the pa turnpike. The car started to wobble and steering wheel shook uncontrollably. This was the second time this had happened...could not regain control, had to downshift rapidly to decrease speed and get control. Luckily, at this time, there was no one behind me but there are so many places along the turnpike where you're jammed between concrete barriers, it could have been very scary.
