Breaks started squealing the day after I brought it home, so I took it in and they told me it'd because the breaks are ceramic.

The brakes on the Renegade have been squealing for months, if not over a year. I have not returned to Jeep because it is a hassle.

Mentioned the squealing brakes to the dealership, and I was told that it was because I didn't park my vehicle in a garage. That was a load of crap. I have parked my previous vehicle outside for 12 years and never had an issue.

We noticed the rear brakes would squeal when backing up and then it would stop. We thought maybe because it was new and it would work it self out, it didn't. I had another problem, which I will discuss next so we told Jeep about this when I brought the vehicle in to have checked out today. 3/3/2016

I will keep you informed on the progress.

Got rid of my 2006 Chevy Aveo because it was starting to squeal and now my brand new Jeep is even louder! My dealership has looked at it and it making a decision on what to do.

My new (2015) Renegade Latitude brakes SCREECH when gently applied, going in reverse (such as backing out of driveway or parking spot), on cold days. Took it to dealer where purchased along with audio I took that morning of the noise. Also provided info on the TSB bulletin so many have mentioned. Dealer takes the car out and drives it for 10 miles (this after my telling him that the issue only happens going in reverse when cold) without hearing noise. Dealer also said the TSB doesn't apply to my car. Despite my pleas, audio and paperwork he said all I could do would be to leave it overnight. Unfortunately, this car is my only mode of transportation and the dealer is several miles from my home. So leaving it overnight was not an option. And of course no rental or loaner was offered.

In the meantime, neighbors are complaining (this is a very loud, piercing SCREECH). I don't know what else I can do except to continue to rant about the issue and advertise it accordingly?

About six months after owning this car brakes started squealing especially when backing up. Wish I'd read this forum sooner because I see other people have same problem. I took it in to Jeep and they said the brake pads are some weird material that isn't right and it folded on itself and even made a ridge in the rotor. (I'm not a car mechanic so if this all sounds unintelligible, it's because I don't speak the language and it's how I interpreted what they told me.) They said they needed to order new brake pads and rotors for the front brakes but they had to come from Italy so it would be at least a week but it was safe to drive. Hmmm, after that visit, squealing was even louder, embarrassing really. A week later new brakes and rotors arrived and the dealer seemed insistent I come in THAT MINUTE to have them done... makes me wonder how safe it really was to drive it before. When I asked for a re-explanation of the problem they just shrugged and didn't know anything about the "bad material" story I had been given before. Seems OK now. Not reassured.

Bought a Jeep Renegade six weeks ago and the brakes are squealing when I back up. I notice mainly after it sits for awhile. It is very loud and annoying, enough that people look at me when pulling out.

After complaining from week one of brake squealing on a brand new Jeep Renegade, dealer keeps insisting brakes are fine and problem can't be duplicated. Picked up car yesterday from dealer after warranty repair for broken off gas tank housing and brakes checked out ok. Today, terrible, loud squealing after driving the car on the freeway for 1/2 hour and could be heard on city streets.

Update from Nov 5, 2016: Here I am at 10, 450 miles and still experiencing terribly loud, squealing brakes in city driving.

Our Renegade has had squealing brake issues since we brought it home. I have had five brand new cars and never had squealing brakes. It is extremely bad backing up first thing in the morning, like fingernails on a chalk board. Going forward the decibel level of the squealing is much lower and sometimes is none existent. I took it to the dealer for routine service and asked them to investigate the problem. They told me they could not duplicate the problem. You would have to be deaf not to be able to hear this squeal. Not sure what to do next but this is not going away.

Since the first week of ownership-the brakes squeal when slowing and stopping. Complained to the dealer twice. Service manager said not to worry-all new cars do it. I've had 20 cars in 40 years and never had this problem!

Disgusted that after having my Jeep for less than 6 months and 4,000 miles, my brakes sound like a school bus. It's so embarrassing and especially since it's a new Jeep. I brought to dealer and they just said mechanically it's fine, well something ain't right! It's going back in this weekend.

I see on here that I'm not the only one with squealing brakes. It is especially annoying in the morning. Hopefully it doesn't get worse. I quit buying Fords because they refused to fix the 2005 Mustangs and if this continues this will be my last Jeep. It is ridiculous to have a new vehicle with hardly any miles on it sound like the brakes are wore out! FIX THIS PROBLEM!

Not long after buying the car I was hearing a squealing sound when I would back up. It didn't happen all the time but I noticed it! When I went to the dealership with another concern I mentioned the squealing sound to the service guy and he said they would check it. I was telling him that I have had this car only two months, this isn't right!

My Jeep has 4,000 miles on it. When I back out of my driveway every morning, the brakes make a very loud squeaking noise. It's a new car. I t shouldn't be doing this. I will mention it to the dealer when I go for my next oil change.

Renegade Limited 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,000 miles

This is highly frustrating! Brakes squealing on a new car with no fix! My old vehicle had 170,000 miles on it and did not have this issue - EVER. I took the car to the Service Department at the dealership and was informed there is nothing they can do about it until Jeep comes up with a new brake pad redesign. In the meantime I'm driving a new car that sounds like a giant POS. Great representation to the general public for your Chrysler Jeep product. You can hear me braking from inside my house.

Update from Nov 14, 2015: I called Jeep Customer Service 877-426-5337 and asked about the brake issue. I was told there isn't a redesign of the pads. If there are other people with complaints, they need to call and let Jeep know.

I was driving in town (no crazy off road stuff) and the back brakes were making a horrible ear piercing metal on metal sound. Called dealership, had them listen to it, and they said to bring it in immediately. Back brake plate was bent and the metal on metal sound was it against the rotor.
