Catastrophic failure of throttle control while driving down the highway. Vechile began to sputter and immediately flashed the lightning bolt warning light dropping from 80mph to 10 mph. This was associated with the vechile violently sputtering. Vechile will start but when drive is engaged at low RPM nothing happens. With acceleration the car will sputter and not get past 15 miles per hour. During sputtering no power steering is avalible and braking is made difficult with sputtering.

Car began to rev up while idle and electronic throttle light came on. Once I started to drive the car began to lose acceleration. This occurred in the middle of the road at several red lights after being stopped. Took to shop and they said this was a known issue with this car. The throttle body had to be replaced.

The crankshaft sensor failed causing the engine to stop while driving without warning on a city street in boston. The car was brought to the nearest garage where they replaced the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor, but then an engine code came up saying that the accelerator pedal also needed to be replaced. I am unsure if this was related to the crankshaft sensor issue or just a coincidence. The car then had to be towed to a Jeep dealer to replace the accelerator pedal and relearn the sensors. I noticed there was a recall on 2016 Jeep Patriots for the same crankshaft problem but no recall has been issued for the same problem occurring in 2015 Jeep Patriots. The engine died without warning and it is fortunate that this happened at ~20mph, it would have been disastrous at highway speeds.

So I made a complaint about the same issue but today I have an actual engine code that was pulled up after being rear-ended due to the stalling. It's code P0335 and it's the crankshaft position sensor which is already recalled for the exact make and model in the 2016 version and needs to be recalled immediately for 2015 because if there are any complaints of stalls it's because of this issue. Until this issue is addressed to me and my kid and anyone else who has this problem and car is at risk

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Patriot. While operating the vehicle, all the instrument panel warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle would not immediately start. On several occasions, while driving, the vehicle would suddenly fail to accelerate properly and shut off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle converter was faulty. The throttle converter was replaced, but the failures continued. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 65,000. Consumer stated the first major issue occurred in March where I attempted to start my vehicle, it wouldn't start, and all lights on the dashboard were lit up... including a red lightning bolt in which I never have seen before! the vehicle did start for a moment, then locked up and coasted forward where I put on the brakes to stop vehicle due to obvious/ problem. Problem occured more than consumer could count. Radio wouldn't work properly. I've had my Jeep for one year when one day a red lightening bolt and an engine light appeared on my dashboard. No acceleration or power. I had to keep cutting my car on and off in order to make it home. I had to take it to the shop the next day where I had to pay lots of money to replace the throttle body unit. 2 years later even after replacing my engine (due to an accident) the same light has appeared again. Jeep we need answers? sounds like a pretty common problem.

The approximate failure mileage was 53,000.

My Jeep starts stalling and shuts down with no warning. It is completely dangerous and needs to be fixed. Vehicle began stalling while driving without warning, stalled on busy roads, on hills, turning corners, ect. Stalling occurred at infrequent intervals. Sometimes 3 times a day, then wouldn't happen for a few weeks. Sometimes the traction control light would come on after the stalling. Sometimes the car would start right back up when I put it in park or neutral and turned the key, but then die again after traveling 50-100 feet. Mechanics unable to diagnosis problem because no engine light would come on and no error report was generated. Finally, after 2 months of trouble, the car finally showed an engine error code after stalling. Code was for the crankshaft sensor. Had it repaired for $162.40. Very dangerous situation when your car dies in heavy traffic and there is no area to safely coast to out of the way of danger. Always fearful of getting rear-ended. Mechanics can't fix the problem because they don't know what the cause is until there is an engine light on. There are complaints on the internet about it, but Jeep hasn't warned customers of the problem.

  • 59,500 miles
I was driving on a freeway (about 60 miles per hour) and all of a sudden my car 's lights on the dashboard came on (engine, electronic stability, lightening bolt) the power seemed to be draining from my vehicle, I could not longer accelerate. I almost got hit in the back, luckily there was an exit that was close so the car behind me was able to take a forced exit to avoid from hitting me. Unable to determine what happened, I turned on my hazards and pull over on the shoulder and turned my car off. I waited for about 10 minutes and hesitantly decided to try to restart the car. I was able to restart it, only to go about 2 miles and it happen again. I exited the freeway and took back streets all the way home to keep me from getting into a wreck. This continued to happen about 4 times until I made it home and park it. This car has been a headache ever since I bought it brand new. One month after I bought it, the gas tank sunk and pretty much fell into the car so deep that I could no longer get the pump to the tank to fill gas. About a week after that, the wheels started squealing, and this was unable to be fixed. The bolts that are used under the hood do not fit the car so things would constantly loosen as I drove it and eventually are repositioned even though they are replaced by the service departments at the Jeep dealerships. There's substance much like adhesive glue throughout the car on certain parts which doesn't make sense if this car was bought brand new. All around poorly made car, you will end up paying the double the amount valued based on the repairs. Horrible. Hold this maker accountable, there should be a recall on this vehicle. Lives are at danger.
