All in all, the 2012 Liberty actually excels off-road, but since 99% of drivers never take this thing off pavement, that becomes somewhat of a moot point. The Liberty suffers from the worst fuel economy in its class (16/22 MPG) and offers an uncomfortable ride with suspect braking ability.

About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Horn stopped working. Tested actual horn another way and it operates properly but when driving it does not work Someone mentioned it could be the clock spring. Is this covered under warranty or other reports of this malfunctioning for a recall?
I was hit on my passenger front, while attempting to cross into a parking lot, so hard until my tire rod bent at a 90* angle. My passenger airbag didn't deploy. None of my airbags deployed. There was no blind spot warning. Even after the impact, there was no alarm or notification of the damage, as the firemen were attempting to drive my car out of the road.
Sky slider roof broken, will not open nor close. I have to put a tarp over my Jeep to keep the rain out. Cannot be repaired due to no parts available. The possibility for this roof to fly off while driving at high speeds is real. Chrysler/Jeep needs to remedy this problem.
My sky slider while closed, started opening on it's own going down the road. After stopping to inspect, the sky slider will not seal/close all the way. After taking it to a Jeep dealership, they said the sky slider needs replaced but mopar does not produce the parts any longer. Now whenever I need to leave, I have to be sure the sky slider is all the way down before driving. Even then it lifts and opens on its own. I contacted Jeep and they do not have a recall or any affordable solution to this known defect.

Heat shield/blanket between exhaust and body.almost started on fire. I smelt something burning like paper/plastic. I crawled under Jeep to see what it was. I saw smoke and red embers in that padding.
My window on the drivers side started to act up and the next day all controls to every window quit working and now its very cold out side. Plus the heat for the floor quit working also.
Windows fell inside door, suspect window regulators, contacted fca and notified 3 of 4 window regulators failed. Requested assistance since 2007 models have been recalled and evidently there is still a problem. Fca said they are unable to help, windows are taped up with duct tape.12/
For the 4th time now my Jeep drivers seat had a sharp metal device poke thru the seat and injury my leg, this is a serious defect. I have taken this back now 4 times for new seats, motors, etc. Yet after a time it continues break and injury the driver. Seat motor will move on its own. Chrysler/Jeep has been aware of this issue causing injury and defective seats for several years as this is now the 4 time on the same issue, yesterday the dealership said " when will Jeep figure it out the seats are defective"
Sky slider blows up while driving down the road, it is very noisy, and when taken to Jeep dealership, they say the parts necessary to fix it are no longer available. Was told to take it to an auto glass shot and have it glued shut. I feel like I shouldn't have to have it glued shut, there goes the whole value of this vehicle. This is definitely very dangerous and rather inconvenient. Something needs to be done about this.
Mopar issued a recall T56/NHTSA 17V-640. Mopar issued the fix and I took my vehicle to blue bonnet Jeep who claimed to have fixed the issue, printed documents to a "fix" but has not inputted this information into mopar as fixed bringing a question to the legitimacy of the fix. This dealership is either defrauded NHTSA with false fixes or is inept in follow through to fixing the recall.
Well serviced vehicle with 88,000 miles. Driving on a residential street when smoke began coming out of climate vents. Noted engine temperature gauge at normal. Stopped the car and turned off. Fire noted under the hood near the windshield. Within minutes, the car became fully engulfed and burned completely before fire department could arrive.
Since I bought my Jeep almost one month ago I've already had to replace the rear hatch actuator tonight ( 4 weeks after replacing it) my cat is giving me same error message that the rear gate is open and alarm goes off by itself. Panic button doesn't turn it off so apparently it's not the alarm disgaging. I go out to car open and close make sure it's properly sealed and horn goes off again. This is completely ridiculous. Am I going to drop $400 on my car once a month to be able to lock my car or have my dash lights in while I drive at night or is that to much to ask of Jeep?
Car alarm started going off when car was parked at my place of business for no apparent reason, went out got it off and not even 5 minutes later it started again. Got in the car and the rear hatch warning light was on so I opened and closed it looked to be secure so I tried locking again and alarm went off and warning light was still on. Rear gate is not open and cannot lock my vehicle without the alarm going off. It looks like this is a very common issue as there is not a proper seal allowing water to leak into the window. I looked at the latches and they both appear to be corroded and rusty from said water damage!
The sky view roof malfunctioned, came loose began to catch air. I believed that if I was going faster it would have blown off. The roof came off its track. It needed repair to replace "pins and reset the switch" I was told by the mechanic this is a chronic issue and a costly one. The vehicle was in motion on an off ramp I was going apx. 35.mph the used car dealer warranted the repair but stated it was likely to happen again.
While driving my Jeep I will press my gas pedal and will either go 20mph or not move. The RPM go up but will barely move. In order to get it to stop I have to shut off Jeep and restart it and then it works fine. Also check engine light came on with a code P0869. Took back to dealership showed them the code and video of what my Jeep is doing. They said there was nothing they can do unless it happens when they have it. It's been to the dealership 5 times. Does anyone have any idea what my cause this problem?
So, in 2016 Sep. I took my 20012 Jeep Liberty in for a recall which has been corrected. The tec. Then advised me to get the light turned off I would need to pay the cost of $400. To get this resolved. And if I ever get into accident the airbags may not deploy. I personally think that this should be a manufactures recall. As of today I have not yet fixed this issue. Hopefully this will be solved by NHTSA
The window regulator has gone out in 3 of 4 of my automatic windows, all within a years span. Two went out at the same time. I had one of the regulators fixed, but for a hefty fee. When one regulator went out my vehicle was in motion on a city street and the rear window went down and would not roll back up.
