Typically, when refueling, upon reaching the full level with the fuel pump nozzle in the auto shutoff position the pump nozzle will shut off but gasoline will continue to flow and spew out of the fill tube, down the side of the car, onto the ground and onto me. I've learned to manually stop adding fuel prior to the full level to avoid the risks this situation presents. On 11/22/2014 with the fuel tank nearly empty I attempted to refuel with fuel nozzle in auto position for the initial fill period. After adding approximately 2 gallons gasoline began spewing out. To stop the flow I had to grab the nozzle and disengage the lever manually and in the process soaked my hand, arm and lower leg with gasoline. I attempted to begin refueling again with an identical out come. I moved to a different pump station and twice attempted to fill by manually operating the nozzle lever. Gasoline poured and spewed out both times. After having added just 5 gallons total I stopped attempting to add fuel. I am now in the process of finding service/repair before driving the vehicle again as I don't believe it is safe to add fuel in current condition.
I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty sport I noticed couple years ago that every time I fill the gas tank up it does not shut the gas nozzle off and always back flows out and runs down the side of my Jeep. I thought the gas station issues until try multiples gas stations.

Every single time we fill up the car (no topping off), the gas shoots out of the tank back at us. We bought this used car for hoping it would be reliable, but this is a recurring dangerous problem. We lower the flow of fuel from the pump, but it still happens. Very dangerous! we have head that the plastic O ring swells with gasoline that contains ethanol and fails to cut the back flow off. The problem with this is, all pumps in our area contain at least 10% ethanol. What good is a car if you can't drive it?!

I have received 3 of the same recall notices (N46 / NHTSA 13V-252) from Chrysler dating back to 3/2014. I have followed the notices directions by contacting two of my local dealers to obtain parts and service. Each time I call (usually every 2 weeks), I am told that parts are not available yet and to keep checking back. I believe that this resolution is taking more than a "reasonable amount of time" as it is now almost October. I am trying to be patient, but if this defect was important enough to trigger a recall, it's important enough for Chrysler to make these parts available asap. My family's safety is very important to me and I feel like Chrysler is abandoning their customers and dealers.
Safety recall on vehicle, received notice to repair, made appointment with ellis Jeep, canoga park, ca. When I arrived at ellis Jeep they did not have the part required and made many excuses excluding why they did not notify by phone they did not have the part and to reschedule. I took my ride away and returned home. I then called van nuys Jeep and told them the problem, the service manager was very kind and asked if I could bring the Jeep to them and he would squeeze it in that day. I drove over to that dealership and the manager found a way to deal with the repair within two hours. Praise is deserved by van nuys Jeep and disgrace upon ellis Jeep.
