The driver's side cylinder head failed and engine oil began leaking down the engine and onto the exhaust pipes. The cylinder head was kept by the dealership and is not available for inspection. My safety was put at risk of a vehicle fire from the fresh oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold and piping. I could smell the burning oil and saw it dipping under my vehicle. The dealer did not say that this was a systemic problem, but it is well documented on the internet that this is a common problem from this model (2015) Jeep Grand Cherokee. The component was not inspected by anyone other than the dealership that determined it had to be replaced. The engine light came on letting me know there was an issue with the engine. I brought the vehicle to the dealership within a few days.

The oil cooler located on top of the engine intake failed and began leaking oil. The part of the oil cooler that failed was made out of plastic. The top of the engine gets very hot which likely caused the plastic to become brittle and fail. Oil began leaking all over the motor and onto the exhaust pipes. I could smell burning oil and worried it could cause a fire once I realized what was happening. The repair shop said that they fix so many of these and they are not even a dealer, nor could they understand how a recall has not been issued on this item. The component was not inspected by anyone other than the mechanics at the repair shop. The replacement was an aftermarket made out of aluminum and not plastic like the oil cooler that failed. There were no warning lamps indicating there was a problem. When I saw the oil under my vehicle and the smell of burnt oil on the exhaust pipes I brought the vehicle to the repair shop.

The oil filter housing assembly cracked. I noticed oil leaking yet my oil light would never come on. I took it to be looked at and they had to replace the housing component. I was told that this has been a common problem with vehicles and for me to keep all receipts. If I didn-??t pay close attention to my vehicle I could have ruined the engine with the amount of oil that I was loosing. Especially since no warning light was being displayed.

FCA has had an open recall (Z46/NHTSA 22V-406) for over 14 months. They are unable to provide necessary parts and as such potentially unsafe vehicles must be driven by owner and these vehicles are unable to be traded/sold due to open safety recall. FCS Recall Assistance and Chrysler Group Customer Care for Jeep have been contacted with no resolution and no anticipated date for resolution.

Loud ticking noise from engine that speeds up upon acceleration. Failing rocker arm causing debris leading to ticking noise. No error codes. Upon personal investigation online, have found "Pentastar Tick" to be a known problem in 2013-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees on Jeep forums. Problem can lead to misfire while driving, including jerking, damage to cam shaft, as well as engine damage.

Valve lifter failure at 93,000 miles. $2,700 repair. Is apparently a very common problem with the 3.6l Pentastar engine. Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision warning system front sensor failed at 56,000 miles, failed again at 76,000 miles and failed a third time at 95,000 miles. First two failures were replaced under warranty, third failure happened 1 week after warranty expiration from second replacement. Cost is too expensive to repair ($3,000 for new sensor) and requires that safety feature be turned off as sensor will perceive increases in road elevation (hills) as another vehicle and apply the brakes

While driving vehicle shuts off unexpectedly, with steering wheel losing power steering. It will then have trouble starting again. Turning on and off by itself. It will then work just fine after 15-20 minutes.. It has been doing this every few months for a couple years now. I have taken to dealer a couple times, and they have had me change battery initially. But can-??t give me a reason why it keep happening after that. Most recently, once I was able to work again after it had sh*t off on me while driving, it would then not shut off. I could not turn the car off. I took to dealer, and eventually it turned off. It is at dealer currently at time of this writing.

We were driving and we heard a chime and nothing showed on the display panel. Then we went thru the displays and saw a message regarding the ACC something about manual something. Then we lost power. Since we were on the highway We turned the truck off and started it again to potentially reset. We drove a couple blocks to exit the highway and lost power again. The we got out of the vehicle and smelled smoke. We peaked under the hood and saw fire. We all got out, grabbed our stuff and then the fire spread and engulfed the truck. Total loss.

3.6L Pentastar engine is defective. In October 2020 (55,000 miles), there was a ticking noise coming from engine and reduced engine power. Fields Jeep Dodge Ram Chrysler replaced right intake camshaft and 6 lifters, rockers, and related gaskets. In April 2021, I noticed same ticking noise; brought back to dealership; dealership found "nothing wrong." In March 2022 (70,000 miles) I heard same ticking noise; brought to dealership; insisted something was wrong. SURPRISE! This time, ALL (12) ENGINE lifters/rockers/gaskets & camshafts replaced. Now, May 2023 (80,000 miles) there is, again, ticking in engine/loss of power; this time there is a noticeable bucking and surging when the engine is cold. There were no warning lights or messages on the dashboard to indicate impending engine failure. Symptoms I experienced were loss of engine power, ticking, and bucking/surging. I WISH someone from NHSTA would come and inspect the car. Safety issues can arise if the engine fails while being driven - increased risk of stalling, loss of motive power, obviously collision, any number of things. On two separate occasions, Jeep dealership identified and "fixed" the issue with the same faulty parts that caused the problem in the first place. Other than the dealership, no one else has inspected the vehicle. This issue is ongoing and will continue to occur as a result of an inherently faulty engine design, for which the only remedy is to fix it with the same defective parts.

The oil cooler is leaking and shooting oil around the engine compartment making a lot of smoke. Not sure if there was fire or not. I went to the 2 repair shops and both said that they are inundated with the same problem from jeep owners and the parts are very expensive and hard to get. I was told not to drive the car because it could cause a fire, and I cannot afford the repair. The Chrysler corporation should take responsibility. This is a major safety issue, and now I am stuck with a vehicle that is too dangerous to drive.
