CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee shows an early trend of transmission complaints. Most of the complaints are for rough shifting — things like jerking & hesitation when shifting gears.
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee also has the same transmission issues.

About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
While driving down the road my driver's side head rest popped open causing my head to be pushed forward. As a result I had to pull over and stop my vehicle. It caused head and neck pain. There were no warning indicators on the vehicle at the time of the incident. It has not yet been inspected by a dealer or service center nor was there a police report or insurance claim.
Drove over a bump in a parking lot and the front of the headrest "popped" out hitting the driver in the back of the head. Within two weeks of the incident the driver has experienced blurred vision, neck pain and headaches. Several visits to different physicians as well as MRI and CT scans. Neurologist suspects whiplash.
Headrest deployed without being in accident. I was about to put my car in reverse when the incident happened. If I was driving and it happened it could have caused me to wreck.
The headrest on the driver's side seat just spontaneously deployed and sprang forward. Thankfully it didn't cause an accident but now the headrest will not go back into position because the clips are busted. No warning of any kind and no reason to think it was faulty but apparently the clips are faulty because they busted causing the headrest to spring forward unexpectedly.
Passenger side headrest expanded. I was sitting in a parking lot and heard a loud bang. After looking I seen the passenger headrest came apart and will not go back together. If someone was sitting in the passenger seat at the time they could have bene injured. With the how loud the bang was I thought someone hit my vehicle.
With no warning or reason the active headrest deployed while I was at a stop light having been stopped for a few minutes and smacked my passenger in the back of the head.
While driving the vehicle at low speed and without any warning or outside influence the headrest exploded and hit me in the back of the head. I was able to retain control of the vehicle because of the slow speed and situation. I have since learned that this has happened to many other vehicles of my model and is related to the collision reactive headrest retaining components suddenly breaking. I recently had a long trip driving this vehicle at interstate speeds and this cpould have been a very serious event.
Headrest airbag deployment spontaneously. This is a known issue that has caused numerous accidents. Here is a link with multiple people experiencing the issue. People are directed to contact Jeep Cares but this is a safety issue that needs to be recalled. https://www.jeepgarage.org/threads/headrest-clips-spontaneously-broken.222166/
The active headrest released on the driverseat while operating the vehicle under normal conditions. The headrest hit the driver's head with significant force. The headrest will not reset.
Driver headrest deployed with no reason while driving 45mph in a busy avenue during rush hour (5pm). It hit driver in the back of the head causing confusion and dizziness. Found a small plastic piece broken inside mechanism. Headrest still installed, haven't taken it to dealer for repair because online comments says repair would be around $900 at my own expense and no way I'm paying for a malfunction.
The passenger seat headrest violently exploded open while I was driving. If this were to have happened while someone was in the car, or on my driver's side headrest, someone could have easily been injured. It sounded as if an airbag opened in the car. I have not gotten it inspected yet but have read multiple forums of this happening on other 2014-2015 jeep Grand Cherokee and am wondering how this is not a recall. No warning signs given.
While the vehicle was in operation traveling straight ahead on roadway the vehicles drivers headrest -??popped-?? causing operators head to jerk forward while vehicle was in motion. Driver was able to maintain control of vehicle but was startled by the sudden explosion and impact on head. This could have easily caused operator to loose control and be involved in a motor vehicle accident. There were no warning messages when this occurred and nothing had been done to the headrest prior to it exploding open. After inspecting the headrest it appears a plastic part inside the headrest snapped.
The Active Headrest on this 2015 Jeep deployed at random. There was no accident or other event to cause this deployment. The deployment launched the headrest forward making the headrest strike the drivers head. Upon visual observation of the headrest, there appears to be a failure of the structural material securing the retainer pin. Dangerous! Forums abuzz with this known issue. Needs recalled IMO.
2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit passenger-side headrest unexpectedly deployed yesterday, August 11, 2022, without warning and with explosive force while driving without any vehicle accident occurring or any impact to the body of the car. No human injury occurred, though the intense force of the explosion caused my cell phone to jump out of the cup holder as the force translated through the seat and center console and nearly caused loss of driving control with pedestrians in close proximity to the car. It could have easily caused injury or death if it had been the driver's side, especially at greater speed. Have not yet been able to take the car to a dealer so quickly afterward. I find no recalls under my VIN, though I found an electronic copy of Mopar Warranty Bulletin No. D-20-10, dated August 26, 2020, stating an immediate 10 year/unlimited mileage warranty extension (X88) Active Head Restraint for 2014-2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The passenger side active headrest restraint spontaneously engaged and will not reset. I was a passenger when it happened and it struck me in the back of the head. I-??ve noticed many others with my year, make and model of vehicle have had similar issues, but Jeep is not wanting to accept there is a manufacturing default. Luckily it wasn-??t my drivers side headrest. But it could be next time and potentially while I-??m driving. There were no warnings prior and it-??s extremely rare that anyone rides in that seat.
