[xxx] Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, [xxx] Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo has formed a crack in the oil filter adapter. Because of the location, design, and material, the part is prone to cracking and leaking (typically spurred by an oil change when the cap is screwed back onto the housing). This crack creates a slow leak of oil into the engine housing and below the vehicle. This oil leak can continue without obvious warning and if not corrected, could result in severe engine damage with the potential of malfunctioning while in use therefore posing a safety threat to the driver, passengers and other drivers. I have alerted Jeep to the issue and I will note that I have spoke to several mechanics who have replaced several of these parts in this vehicle. It is a manufacturing design flaw and costing loyal customers and posing a danger on the roads. I have reported this information to Jeep (or whomever they contract customer service to) and they documented my information but refused to correct the situation for myself (and others in the future) and told me to hold onto my repair information in case a recall takes place in the future. Jeep should take accountability for this ever growing issue and recall this part immediately. Please help me in ensuring they do the right thing for their customers and for the general public. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Oil filter housing: Between my two oil changes I noticed a small oil leak under my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 3.6L. I took it to the Jeep dealership and I was informed the leakage was do to a bad "oil filter housing" and the part with repairs would be $799.99. I asked if this should be included under my 5 year / 100,000 warranty but they said the warranty expired on 10/24/2018 and today is 2/5/2019. I called chryler and they said there is nothing they can do and they cannot offer to cover the repair; it would be an "out of pocket expense". so I googled this issue and it appears this is a known issues in all the forums and threads I read. Apparently Chrysler changed this part from metal to plastic part for their 2014 models and later and now the part is failing all over the place. I registered a case number with Chrysler but I probably should not post that in a public forum. I am hoping to eventually have this item as a recall item for 2014 and newer vehicles. The car was stationary and I first noticed the issue.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving various speeds, the service shifter warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to stockton Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (located at 3333 auto center cir, stockton, ca 95212, (209) 956-1920) to be diagnosed, but a failure code could not be located. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, while driving on the freeway, all the warning indicators on the instrument panel intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to lodi Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (located at 1255 beckman rd, lidi, ca 95240, (209) 263-3999) where thirteen codes were found, but not a failure code. All thirteen codes were reset. The vehicle was not repaired. Also, while driving, the vehicle stalled, the check engine warning indicator illuminated, and the windshield wipers operated independently. The vehicle was able to coast to the side of the road and was towed back to lodi Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.

Oil cooler housing on my 3.6 L pentastar engine, which is made of plastic, has developed a crack causing motor oil to leak onto the engine and transmission. There could be a potential for a fire. Dealer has these on back order. This part used to be made of metal on prior models and was not an issue. Sounds to me that this part should be redesigned.

My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee has stalled while driving 3 times; twice on the highway at speeds in excess of 60 mph, and once while making a right turn on a busy street. I push on the gas to accelerate the vehicle, and it stalls. All electrical is still on, but I have to stop the car, put it in park, then I can restart and continue. I was almost in a collision a few times because of the car stalling. There are no error codes or lights to indicate what the problem is. Jeep is not trying to fix the issue and act as if they haven't heard of this before. Dealerships "can't replicate the issue" so they just give the car back. It feels as if the car doesn't downshift properly (big jarring motion like you've been rear-ended) when trying to go up a hill, or pass a slower vehicle. Dealership already replaced both fuel pumps, but didn't fix the problem.

Steering wheel locked up while driving, was told by mechanic it is the electric power steering pump. Also a week before the drivers headrest suddenly deployed while driving (Jeep has never been into a car accident & I am the original owner to this 2014) was told it will be at least $2000 with all parts & labor. This is very serious and dangerous and I have read the steering wheel has locked up on hundreds of others while driving. The Jeep did not turn off when the steering wheel locked up. While driving to get out of the road the engine revved up at 20 mph and the Jeep did not want to go- had to switch into sport mode to continue to drive out of the road way and the engine revving calmed down. The head rest is broke and can not go into its regular position. Did not get a price estimate on that yet. This should be fixed by Jeep!!!

Went to start my car today, and there was a long crank but the car did not turn on. This happened 2 more times. Finally, the third time during the long crank, I stepped on the accelerator and the engine finally turned on. During the whole thing, the dashboard was on, lights were on, and radio was on - so it was not a battery issue. There was no warnings on my dashboard and no lights turned on afterwards - as if everything was fine. I am worried because I have read multiple listings regarding cars stalling while in drive, or worsening of these symptoms. I know there has been a tpim recall contributing to faulty stalling - but 2014 model was not covered under the recall. If my car symptoms become progressively worse - I am afraid that my car will shut off while I am driving - placing me and others on the road in high risk for danger.

While I was idling in a parking lot a coolant hose to my turbo split. This hose ( the size of your thumb) is under the intake manifold and is not accessible to check and maintain. Seeing that this hose is a few inches from the turbo and even closer to the right engine bank, the heat is extreme. The hose is a rubber hose not unlike a lawn mower gas hose. If it wasn't for the smell of hot coolant and being stationary, the engine would of lost it's coolant without any signs. The maintenance portion of the owners manual assumes we can see and get at all coolant hoses. The turbo hose should last longer than the coolant that in it, on mine it was approximately 82,000 miles. A steel braded hose would be more appropriate in this location. Attached is the portion of the owners manual and a picture of the new hose in place. To replace this hose the dealer had to drop the engine out of the truck and it took over 10 weeks to get it back.

Failure of a heater hose while driving caused excessive overheating which led to engine failure. Dealer says that my extended warranty does not cover hoses therefore the cost of replacing the diesel engine is my responsibility. The cost is nearly $17,000. I would like an investigation into why the hose failed. Was it due to damage caused during previous engine work?

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving between 5-15 mph, the vehicle stalled and lost power without warning. The contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated after a beeping noise was heard inside the vehicle. The contact stated that the failures were intermittent and that the vehicle returned to normal, in most cases, after a period of time. Duane lane's Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram (10515 evergreen way, everett, Washington 98204, (425) 953-1295) diagnosed that the surge canister underneath the hood was faulty due to an evaporation leak. The surge canister was replaced, but the failures recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee srt. In the last year and a half, I have had to have the transfer case & rear end replaced. This is just uncalled for on a 4 year old car. It is currently sitting at the dealership (has been there for a week so far) to have the lifters/cam replaced. The parts from Chrysler are so far on back order there's no hope of getting them. The aftermarket parts are also on back order. Those 2 things tell me that this is a widespread malfunction with this engine & seems to me to be a design flaw.

Constant cylinder 6 misfire. All 6 spark plugs have been replaced. Coil and fuel injector replaced. Still showing cylinder 6 misfire. Seen cylinder head being replaced on years 2011-2013 but not for a 2014. This should be covered. When the check engine light came on, it had seizure like convulsions when coming to a stop and while in idle until spark plugs were replaced. Still running rough, very shaking like it is going to stall out.

Call stalled due to the failure of the alternator, which was subject to recall. The dealership refused to schedule an appointment, so I just dropped my car off at the dealership per Chrysler Corp. The dealership replaced the defective alternator and found that the battery needed to be replaced at a charge of 350 dollars. I informed the dealership that the message center on the car indicated that the car was entering "batter saver mode" as it shutdown. The manual for the vehicle indicates that the vehicle enters this mode when the battery is not being charged, the primary function of the alternator. I requested that the dealership replace the battery as its depletion was due to a faulty alternator, they declined. They stated that although the alternator was faulty it did not do any damage to the battery.

This incident regards the T-36 recall issued by Fiat/Chrysler, which involves 2012-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee (among others), and "affects vehicles equipped with electro-hydraulic power steering systems, 5.7L or 3.6L engines, and 160, 180, or 220 amp alternators. In those vehicles, NHTSA says that the alternator may fail without warning." During June 2018, my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee (summit trim), experienced sudden alternator failure while in motion on a highway. The alternator started to smoke, and by the time I had reached my destination, there was grey smoke barreling out of the hood of my car and the battery was completely dead. The Jeep had to be towed to a nearby dealership for repairs. In addition to the alternator and battery replacment, the tensioner, idler and serpentine belt had to be replaced due to undue strain placed on them by the alternator failure. The incident that occurred matches the description of the T-36 recall. Additionally, the year, make, engine size, and amperage of the alternator all match the description given in the T-36 recall. However, the VIN number for my particular Jeep did not appear under the recall, and therefore, Jeep/Chrysler would not repair my Jeep under that particular recall. They did fix the Jeep, but at my cost (the owner). I 100% believe this an oversight by Jeep/Chrysler (or maybe NHTSA) and should be remedied immediately. I do believe there are other Jeep owners that are unaware of this issue, due to the lack of notification by Jeep/Chrysler, and will experience the same issue, which could cause an accident and lead to injury. Please review the details of my Jeep VIN and why it was not included in the T-36 recall. If this happened to my Jeep, then I imagine it will happen to others. Fortunately, I was not injured, but others could be injured who are unaware of this issue. Please contact me with any questions.

The alternator light came on in the vehicle while driving, then within about 10-15 minutes the radio had no sound although the screen was still lit. Other lights then came on such as the engine light, anti-lock brakes. About 5 minutes later, I had to stop at a stop sign, when taking off again, the car would barely move. It wouldn't go above about 10-15 miles per hour, then it picked up speed but I no longer had power steering. As I pull into a parking lot to get the car off of the road, the wipers turned on (even though the switch was off). When I got into the parking spot, the car could not be put into park due to the power issues. I had to hold my foot on the brake until the engine died. Within 2-3 minutes the engine died. Everything was dead, including the power locks. Then a few minutes later the dash would light saying the ignition or accessory unit was turned on but you couldn't do anything to turn it off. Everything would then turn off again. After sitting for about 30-45 min, the car would start back up but it was not driven anywhere, we had it towed. Both the alternator and battery needed to be replaced which is what caused the issues. The alternator is under a recall for my model/year/engine type but not for my VIN. The recall was due to very similar issues, loss of steering control, loss of power.
