CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Grand Cherokee hasn't seen the same complaint volume as the 2011, at least not yet.

It's worth noting both model years are part of a class-action lawsuit that focuses on a defective TIPM and a long wait for replacement parts.

The 2012 also received national attention after it failed a Swedish Magazine's "moose test". The test measures a vehicle's ability to swerve out of the way of an obstacle you wouldn't want to hit while driving down the road ... like a moose.

This engine in this vehicle misses from time to time. I've told my dealer each of the last 3 times I brought in for service or for recalls. They have reset the computer and updated the software and say that if runs fine. I took the vehicle on a longer trip and it started missing during a late night drive to Virginia. The missing was so bad I was loosing power. I am aware of the fuel pump recall that went out on this vehicle in April, but according to my dealer the parts are just becoming available now. I am on a wait list with no definite date to when my vehicle will be repaired even though I believe I have symptoms of a fuel pump failure. I am afraid to drive the vehicle and even more afraid to have my children or my wife drive it. I am amazed that this vehicle has had I believe 5 recalls and still Fiat Chrysler gets so much time to react and repair what appears to be a serious problem. I would have hoped our government would have held the new italian/Fiat owners of Chrysler to a hiring standard. Fiats reputation for low quality cars was so bad that they had to pull our of the us and now they are back. Why are they getting away with selling cars with defects that are potentially very dangerous and then allowed to have months and months to recall and repair them?

The issue with my car was exactly the same as its sister product, 2012-2013 Jeep Wrangler, which was recalled for this problem - reference the NHTSA campaign id no. 13V234000. The same design flaw exists in the 2012-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee and these models also need to be recalled. Problem: The power steering return line contacts and wears a hole in the aluminum transmission oil cooler line. There is no warning light or obvious low fluid levels, so an owner may not have any way to know when it happens. Risk: Such a condition can result in a loss of transmission fluid without the owner's knowledge, which may cause transmission damage and loss of function. In my case, there was no warning light or obvious low fluid levels. I continued to drive it until a regularly scheduled check up. I am unsure of whether there is any undetected damage, but I was told that I was only miles away from burning my transmission out and it shutting down. The repair cost was $849.27 at the local dealership. However, if it had shut down while driving on the highway, which I do often as a single mom with two daughters, the vehicle could have lost function while driving. Why isn't this recalled already? it's not safe and it's the same exact problem as it's sister product that was already recalled!

Reluctant to drive vehicle that "might crash w/O warning. Parts are still not available for repair. Have effectively lost use of vehicle for 10 weeks. Jeep should be required to provide loaner or pay for comparable rental until parts are available and repair is made. I have an ongoing problem with starting my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 overland. The Jeep will start but will stall right away. Sometimes if you put the Jeep in gear quickly it will stall in gear also. Most of the time it stalls right after starting. I have to shut the Jeep off and press the start button again to get it started. I have had this Jeep at the dealership (Colorado Chrysler Jeep) multiple times over the last two years and the "resolution" for the dealership is that they can not recreate the problem. On 4/10/15 the dealership said that it stalled on them and they replaced a switch ig 08053059. Received the Jeep back and it stalled the next day. Called Colorado Chrysler Jeep back and they said that the service department would have to get an electrician in to have it looked at and that would take a couple of weeks. I called Chrysler at this point and Chrysler had me take the Jeep into cherry creek Dodge because they could "get me in quicker". on 5/22/15 I took the Jeep to cherry creek Dodge and the service department performed procedure S1308000399 5/2015 outlined in Chrysler's star system. The next day the Jeep stalled. I have called back multiple times to both Chrysler and cherry creek Dodge with either no answer or no solution. Cherry creek Dodge is now putting me of with a new recall saying the service department thinks that will fix the problem, and Chrysler wants to go with what cherry creek Dodge says. My problem is that this has been going on for two years. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Ever day the Jeep stalls at some point. Any assistance with this problem would be greatly appreciated. We first noticed this problem at about 25,000 miles. We took the Jeep to Colorado Chrysler at 35,451 miles and the Jeep has about 54,000 miles now. At first the stalling was just every once in a while, now it happens daily.

On May 19, 2015 contacted dealer about (tipm) safety recall R09/nthsa14V-115. Service manager stated to me that they could not fix (tipm) present time because they did not have part. Service department stated to me they did not know when part would be available. Gave service department my cell phone number and asked to be contacted (asap) about recall part (tipm). I think Chrysler should be made by our government to buy back my 2012 Jeep. This is the (4th) safety recall I have had on this Jeep. Dealer has not fixed recalls in a timely manner. I will never purchase a Chrysler product again, I am sick and tired of unsafe junk coming out of Fiat/Chrysler. All consumers should be made aware of unsafe junk being put in Chrysler vehicles. We in America deserve better respect from all automakers. I think my next vehicle will come out of russia!!!!! maybe they will understand how to produce a safe vehicle.

On April 27, 2015 I received important safety recall #R09/NHTSA 14V-115 stating that my vehicle had a defective fuel pump relay which could cause the engine to stall while driving and cause a crash without warning. In other words a serious possibly deadly crash could occur following the sudden shut down of the engine and power systems. To date, Jeep/Chrysler/fca repeatedly has told me there are no parts to repair the defect and no projected date for repairs.the dealer will not provide a safe loaner vehicle in the interim. So, I drive a deadly vehicle (deadly for myself and other drivers) for some indeterminate period of time. If the vehicle is unsafe as it is reported to be, it should be parked and the manufacturer and dealer should provide an immediate fix or an alternate vehicle. This situation is absurd. Have we not learned anything from the GM ignition switch situation? apparently not.

I returned my single axel motorcycle trailer to the gravel storage lot and backed it into it's space. With the engine idling I put it in park, exited the vehicle and disconnected the trailer from the vehicle. I got back into the vehicle to idle it forward a couple feet to allow clearance for the removal of the trailer hitch from the receiver. With my foot on the brake I shifted from park to drive. Immediately upon being put in drive the engine accelerated to over 5,000 rpms and the vehicle lurched forward. I tried to shift back into park but hit reverse causing the vehicle to lurch backwards. I continued to push the transmission forward into park and shut off the engine. All this occurred with my foot firmly on the brake peddle. The incident lasted about three or four seconds. The rear tires spun in the gravel creating 3 inch deep divots. The vehicle is equipped with a 5.7L engine. My first thought was that the engine was going to explode. Luckily there was no injury or property damage. The local Jeep dealer inspected the vehicle and was unable to identify a cause.

Vehicle was brought in to dealer on 3/24/15 for stalling issues and other safety recalls. Car had not started on at least 4 occasions up until 3/24/25. I was told the key fob batteries needed to be replaced and that may fix the issue. I paid to have both batteries replaced. On 5/4/15 I brought the vehicle back to the dealer because the not starting issue had become more extreme. It occurred 8 times since the 3/24/15 service and on one occasion it would not accelerate while I was driving on a highway. There was an extreme delay and suddenly the car reacted and lurched forward. This was the first time it had ever done this. Additionally, on one occasion of not starting it continued to chug instead of just not reacting. Dealer advised again that one of the key fobs needed to have a battery replaced (both were replaced the previous month) and that they didn't have parts for the safety recall. Headquarters advised they would let me know in a few weeks or months when the parts would be available. The problems is rapidly getting worse and there are indications that there may be issues while I am driving it as well. I have asked for escalation and something even a temporary fix be done. No response from headquarters yet.

The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee check engine light was on and stalled then pulled over to side of street then restarted engine.took to Dodge dealership -had major engine failure no-to low compression on lft cylinder head. Is the fuel tank on this vehicle defective will it leak and explode/catch fire if rear ended? this vehicle was owned by dealership with open/active recall safety defects. Should I be concerned with driving this vehicle. Dealership did not disclose this when they sold the vehicle. How is this legal and allowed to get away with this dangerous vehicle. I don't want to put my family in it. Maybe the dealership owner will put his family in it since he's selling defective cars. I just get another safety recall notice. This vehicle is an accident/fatality waiting to happen. The manufacturer/dealership should refund the purchase price or be criminally charged. I paid thousands of $'s, this vehicle is a total loss who going to buy it.

While driving on a rainy day, my car shut of-at the time I was doing approx 50 mph. I had to pull over to the side and restart the car. When I took my car, I was informed there is a tipm issue and my computer needed to be replaced, costing me over $1500. Since my warranty expired, I have to pay out of pocket. My hands are tied on this one, as it potentially can cause a serious safety issue for my future. Also a problem with the tipm, my car has failed to start on approx 10 occasions. It takes me about 20 minutes to get it to start.
