CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Grand Cherokee hasn't seen the same complaint volume as the 2011, at least not yet.

It's worth noting both model years are part of a class-action lawsuit that focuses on a defective TIPM and a long wait for replacement parts.

The 2012 also received national attention after it failed a Swedish Magazine's "moose test". The test measures a vehicle's ability to swerve out of the way of an obstacle you wouldn't want to hit while driving down the road ... like a moose.

Received recall notice P14 / NHTSA 14V-154 (brake booster) on 5/31/14. Contacted earnhardts gilbert Jeep / Dodge on 6/2/14 (gilbert, Arizona). Was advised to bring vehicle in to service dept. On 6/3/14 by appointment for inspection. Was also advised that parts would have to be ordered. Arrived on 6/3/14 and was informed no inspection would take place until parts arrived "2-3 weeks" later. It was my distinct impression, via initial phone call to dealer and subsequent initial visit, that dealer / personnel were not as familiar with recall as one would think they should be. I also understand the recall issue at hand but at this juncture my wife and I will be waiting 2-3 weeks, perhaps, to have the issue resolved. I find it difficult to believe that Chrysler does not have necessary parts at the time of recall notification to rectify brake booster issue. I started car, backed out of driveway, attempted to stop car, brake hard but would not stop car, complete loss of braking capability. Also loud hissing noise coming from under car. Car was brought to elmwood Chrysler E.providence ri. Invoice no. [xxx]. cause found, brake booster and master cylinder faulty. Cost to repair $705.37. I checked on line for Chrysler recalls, found two mentioning problems with brakes in Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured 11/2011 mfr on door is 11/11. Chrysler states recall id#102269 is in regards to brake boosters which is what went on my Jeep. As of 5/20/14 I have not received a recall notice, I sent all information and copies of invoices to Chrysler recall assistance center and Chrysler customer care on 4/3/14, received by them on 4/7/14, I received a call on 5/13/14, spoke with bill, case no. 24885879 assigned by Chrysler, he was very rude, keep trying to get me to say that the brakes were soft, there were no brakes, pedal was hard to the touch, but no stopping power. Told me brake failure was not covered by recall. I am completely at a loss, not only of my $705.37 but my respect and faith in Chrysler products, as from what I researched on line the recalls were for brake booster. Repair invoice states: Cause found, brake booster & master cylinder faulty. This is the second major safety issue with this vehicle the first was in 8/2013, vehicle would automatically drop into first gear, it was a terrifying experience being that I was on the highway traveling at 65 mph, to drop down to barely 5 mph, absolutely no acceleration, fortunately the solenoid-transmission & transuded-pressure sensor & nine other parts were covered under the warranty. I should be so lucky this time ! I feel that Chrysler has an obligation to stand behind it product when it come to the safety of the people who put their trust in them. Reported a braking problem to Jeep dealership happened on 3 occasions on the parkway, fortunately I was able to control the braking by downshifting my Jeep. Went to the dealership immediately thinking my Jeep needed brake pads...which I paid to replace anyway to be on the safe side. There was a brake recall from Chrysler on 2012 Jeep gc & also reported the breaking problem to Jeep headquarters on 2 different occasions. I was told I would receive a recall notice, my reports are on file. It's almost 2 months & I still have not received a recall notice from Chrysler I don't understand what is taking Chrysler so long to send out recall notices when a braking problem is at stake & has been reported to Chrysler & the Jeep dealership. I also checked with my dealership today ( Apr 22nd) to see if Chrysler perhaps has sent the recall to them via messaging "????????? no luck Chrysler has my VIN # & report on file, however as of today I have not received a recall notice. Does Chrysler wait until someone has an accident before they send out the recall notices ?????????????"

While driving on an expressway, there was a backup of traffic and I went to depress the brakes. The brake pedal was so stiff it could not be depressed and the brakes did not engage. I kept my foot N the brake and still there was no braking. I let up my foot and depressed the brake pedal again and finally got the brakes to work. This has happened several times while driving this vehicle. I did contact my dealer and took the Jeep in for this problem. The dealer indicated that they could not replicate the problem while road testing and could not find anything wrong with the brakes.

Driving at road or highway speed, sudden application of brakes requires long distance to stop. Soft peddle and requires greater pressure for emergency stops.took to dealer on 28dec2013 and requested inspection and repair of brakes. Dealer analysis: "vehicle operating to manufacturers design." Experienced same problem in February and April 2014. Returned to dealer on 02apr2014 for oil change and complained of braking problem. Dealer verbal, no problem found.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and refused to provide him any assistance since the vehicle was not included in recall NHTSA campaign number: 14V104000 (service brakes, hydraulic). While my wife was driving the car with my 18month old son in the vehicle the brake stopped working. She was able to coast her way to the nearest dealership where it was determined that the power brakebooster went. This cost us $500 to fix because both the manufacturer and dealership said its not covered on extended warranty as its "ware and tear". in my opinion if the breaks of a 2012 car fail to work this is not ware and tear but a very serious and dangerous defect with the car. I am very concerned that this could happen again with a much worse outcome.

I experienced a 90% failure of the brakes on my 2012 Grand Cherokee this am. The vehicle which is normally not left outdoors at nigh was left outside last night and the temperature fell to -5 deg F. when I dove away this am and applied the brakes I had +/- 10% of the normal braking power and when I applied the brakes harder I could feel the antilock brake system kick in but still not braking. Once the vehicle sat in the sun and warmed the breaks functioned fine. My understanding from the Jeep forum is that this is a design issue with this year and model, according to my dealer there is no recall to fix it.

My 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo had a brake problem and the service dept at nielsen Jeep in East hanover, NJ, diagnosed it a brake booster failure. This is not a problem that should occur in a well-maintained 2 year old vehicle. The service manager (who was very nice and courteous) explained that the car is unsafe to drive (the brakes could fail) but that the part is not available anywhere. It is on national backorder and there is no anticipated delivery date. The dealer denied my request for a loaner car so I filed case # 24644312 with Chrysler to appeal for a loaner/rental car. Chrysler escalated my request to the "highest level" but then also denied the loaner/rental car. I need my car to get to work. While I can ask someone drive me to work for a few days, it is unreasonable to do so for an undetermined period of time. I have no choice but to pick up my car and continue to drive it until the part comes in. I hope the brakes do not fail in the meantime. The service manager told me there were also 3 other Jeep Grand Cherokee in the shop awaiting the brake booster part. I am filing this complaint because this is an unsafe circumstance and as I have learned, this is not isolated to only my vehicle. My hope is that Chrysler Jeep will provide an alternative transportation option to owners, such as a loaner car or rental reimbursement, while they are awaiting the part. Also, I hope for Chrysler Jeep to accelerate the manufacturing of this part. I think a recall is probably in order for the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
