CarComplaints.com Notes: The fourth generation Grand Cherokee took the relatively trouble-free run of the 3rd-generation and flipped the script.
From 2010 to 2011, complaints about the vehicle not starting increased 10-fold. In fact, the 2011 model year is riddled with engine problems and a defective TIPM might be to blame. The TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) distributes power to all the eletrical components in the vehicle, so when it starts acting funny so do numerous other components in the car. Orders for new TIPMs were so abundant that parts became scarce, prompting a class-action lawsuit claiming Chrysler ignored this obvious defect.
By 2012 complaints dropped back down by about 80%. Needless to say, if you see a used 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a lot just keep walking.

About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
When driving at a normal speed, you can't stop the vehicle, if you need to stop suddenly the vehicle keeps rolling, you have to drive at a slow speed in order to stop the vehicle
While in motion put on turn signal and started turn and engine stopped cold. It could be started again after coming to a stop. During failure had no power steering or power brakes. Has happened three times two while turning right once while turning left.
I was driving and heard what almost sounded like an explosion. I pulled off the road and realized my sunroof had exploded. The sunroof had no prior chips or cracks. As seen in the photos, the glass had exploded by the size of the hole. Thankfully, I had the canvas closed, at the time and glass did not fall in. However, I am concerned for the safety of other Jeep owners and other vehicles on the road.
Beginning in August of 2016, the car will stall sporadically upon rapid deceleration. Last time in March the car stalled when brakes were applied to avoid an accident on the freeway. Dealer cannot recreate or diagnose the problem and returns the car 'operating as designed.' Car has not been driven since. Problem has occurred 10-12 times and more recently with greater frequency. Rapid declaration usually occurs to avoid a problem, this is the worst time for the car to stall out.
Drivers side hot air blowing passenger side cold air A/C on but only on the passenger side hot air comes out of vent in drivers side tempature and climate control won't adjust to desired tempature
While driving, the vehicle engine shuts off and the steering wheel locks up. Having a hemi V8 in the front makes it very difficult to steer! I have no idea when the vehicle will stall but ive ended up at a stop sign and in the middle of an intersection twice. A bit scared as to when this will happen again. The radio and headlights stay on when this happens. Ive found that putting the vehicle in neutral and pressing the start button restarts the SUV
I left my car running and in park to getsomething out my house and upon return my vehicle was missing. My vehicle rolled across a field and crash into a tree and none of the airbags deployed
The car will completely shut down all power off when slowing down or coming to a stop this has happened several times in the past year and has become very dangerous went out on the road could cause an accident or death please help
My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland bought new started stalling randomly while driving causing me to loose control of the vehicle as when stalled I would have no power steering, or breaks. First happened at about 8000 miles, I took the Jeep to the dealer and they could not duplicate the issue so they sent me on my way this was the first of now 6 times it has been to the dealership for the same issue. I did get a recall notice in the mail for a tipm which decribes the issue very closely, and yes I did have them do the recall 2 times actually but vehicle is still stalling randomly nearly causing several accidents. The vehicle is currently at the dealership now, but now my case manager from Jeep customer care says the vehicle is out of warrenty and are charging me when they still cant properly diagnos the issue that has been happening since 8000 miles. I feel this should be covered under my original bumper to bumper warranty or the recall. It is Jeep fault they could not fix it the last 5 times. I feel unsafe for myself and children to be in this Jeep, it is a death trap!!!! I can't sell the Jeep because I don't want to kill anyone else. Last time I was driving I was going 55 mph and making a right turn to go across a bridge. I ended up in the oncoming lane of traffic almost hitting the guard rail. Everyone was honking, I put the Jeep in park and pushed the start button. It started right back up. This is after the recall was done the second time. Jeep does not seem to care who's life they are putting at risk. I just want a proper diagnosis, or my money back I paid for the death trap.
Vehicle has shut off while driving a number of times. Two incidents were while I was sitting idle at a stop light. Two other incidents happened while in motion, slowing down, approaching a stop light or stop sign. There is a recall for a fuel pump relay describing similar situations but my VIN shows no such recall.
Ac/heating blend doors hot on one side and cold on the other no matter what the settings are on. Said it's the consumers responsibility to fix $767....but there are tons of complaints found on google and from speaking to other Jeep owners.
My car has been in and out of the shop for the past year. Two years ago my fuel pump went out and that was replaced at that time and was also a recall situation. Since then the same fuel pump has been replaced 5 times and the same problem keeps occurring. My car will stall and not start. After the fifth fuel pump I called the company and opened a case and was told they couldn't duplicate the problem. Two separate dealerships have looked at my vehicle and were unable to detect the problem. Since then the same problem has happened twice and I can't seem to get any help. Please help!
Oil filter cooling housing assembly is broken at only 62,000 miles. The repair cost is over $500 at the dealership. I was notified of the issue when I took the vehicle in for an oil change.
The leather on the dashboard is curling and wrinkling up especially on the passenger side. I am concerned with it interfering with the deployment of the airbag.
I have a recall and the dealer, nielsen Dodge Chrysler Ram in East hanover NJ would not honor the recall and fix my recall. Deplorable service and should be stripped of their dealership license for safety reasons
The sun visors on the passenger side caught on fire the lining was burned, the compass on the dashboard was out as well. Also I have been having a problem with the driver airbag light it has been turning on and off for the past 3 years. I have taken it multiple times to the dealership service to get fixed and they are unaware of the problem. It is a safety issue because if I was to get in an accident the airbag will not deploy.
