CarComplaints.com Notes: The fourth generation Grand Cherokee took the relatively trouble-free run of the 3rd-generation and flipped the script.

From 2010 to 2011, complaints about the vehicle not starting increased 10-fold. In fact, the 2011 model year is riddled with engine problems and a defective TIPM might be to blame. The TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) distributes power to all the eletrical components in the vehicle, so when it starts acting funny so do numerous other components in the car. Orders for new TIPMs were so abundant that parts became scarce, prompting a class-action lawsuit claiming Chrysler ignored this obvious defect.

By 2012 complaints dropped back down by about 80%. Needless to say, if you see a used 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a lot just keep walking.

Started having a transmission slip in 2nd gear repair shop looked things over and said transmission fluid was a little low and I was leaking transmission fluid due ac condenser going bad. Had it replaced, no more leaking transmission fluid but transmission still acting up now. Was told it was most likely due to the leak and trans fluid getting low. After reading up I guess this is a common issue and should be recalled. Obviously these A/C condenser units are faulty. Now I have a transmission that could have been avoidable if Jeep would have let owners know about the ac condenser issue or made that a unit that has to get replaced after so many miles.

The win module to the Jeep has been messing up. The car doors will lock on their own, the windows will roll down, and now the Jeep has just decided to start on its own. At first we thought it was the key fob so we tried to get a new fob and come to find out it is not the fob cause it did the same thing with a new fob programmed to it. So the dealership told us it was the win module. There was a recall for this but for a different year make. So Jeep should fix this problem since it has a history of the problem with other models

Twice in the past two months, vehicle has completely shut down during braking, while in motion, while making a right hand turn. Lost power brakes, steering, everything. The first time it happened luckily no one was behind me. The second time, the steering wheel locked and I ended up in the median curb with two cars behind me that had to abruptly swerve to avoid me. It was a complete shut down. No power anything, radio, lights, nothing. I came to a stop after standing on the brake with all my weight! I put the car in P and it started right up after that. Very scary and unsafe, needless to say! I have since parked it but am having a really hard time with a family of 5 down to one car. I am on an email list to be notified when there is a fix, but it seems they're not in a hurry! the recall number for this fix is 19V-813. Thank you.

While driving, usually coming off the freeway going into an off ramp, my Jeep will stall locking up the wheel and creating a very dangerous situation. I need to put the car in neutral while trying to come to a stop and restart the vehicle. This happened six or ten times to me over the years but again very recently. Very dangerous at any speed but this happened three times while driving on the freeway. Need a fix before someone dies !!!! dealership said this is a recall being worked on. That's not a solution to my urgent problem!!!

On an intermittent basis I have experienced problems starting my Jeep. Then, on December 25, 2019, I receive the V62 fuel pump relay recall for my Jeep, which provides as follows: Our records indicate that your vehicle [1] was included in previous safety recall P54 (NHTSA 14V-530) or safety recall R09 (NHTSA 15V-115). The remedy for the previous recalls was to replace the fuel pump relay. If you had either of these recalls completed, the installed remedy relay is susceptible to silicon contamination on the relay contacts, which can cause the relay to fail. A fuel pump relay failure can result in a no-start condition or an engine stall condition if the vehicle is running. A vehicle engine stall while driving can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. ['] the remedy for this condition is not currently available. This was of great concern. In the 1980S I was driving on the congested freeways of la when my BMW suddenly just turned off. I barely managed to coast to the breakdown lane without being rear ended. I was in terror as I had just been rear-ended a year prior while at a complete stop on the freeway. To this day I have pain in my shoulder, and two pinched nerves in my neck. So, I called the fca recall assistance center service number. Given that there is currently no remedy, and that 'vehicle engine stall while driving can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning', I was going to ask for a rental vehicle. However, the service agent insisted that I first had to take my Jeep to my local dealer to diagnose and confirm the existence of a problem. That is patently ridiculous as the problem can not exist and then, according to the recall notice, arise for the first time and 'cause a vehicle crash without prior warning'. in fact, that first time could be on the way to my local dealer. I have had this Jeep in shop to find out that the tipm is no good the low beam headlights do not work the heater turns on and off whenever it wants and not sure what else is acting up but this is all while driving or sitting still. I have called Chrysler and filed a complaint and tried to get help as this is a 1500 dollar fix and have read that there was a class action law suit for this year against them for this in California and that those involved were given some type of supplemental help toward their repair bill.

The lug nuts on the vehicle were swollen and apparently it's a known issue with Jeep I had to pay money out my own pocket to buy new lug nuts to rotate my tires which cost over $200 and when I contacted Jeep via email they said they were going to diagnose the problem and reach back to me it's been over a year now and havent heard from them I contacted them 3 more times and no response. Now I have an issue with my bluetooth being connected to my phone it keeps kicking my phone out I did a reset and hasn't worked and Jeep dealership is telling me its $135 to fix which I refuse if there is a known problem with Jeep and the radios that should be on recall as well. I have to re-pair my phone everytime I get back into my car. The bluetooth hasn't been working since May 2019 and my lug nuts had to be replaced last year August 2018. I bought this car in 2015 and the dealership told me I had 5 year warranty come to find out I had one year remaining because it started in 2011 when the car was made. Customer service sucks more and more with these dealerships not knowing a thing ! they just tell me they dont kno anything about this or that that I complain about. Ridiculous

Continuing my last complaint - I go to Jeep to fix my bluetooth they tell me its $135 (which was never mentioned on the phone to me as I called to make an appointment.) I told them I dont have that right now. They insisted I had to get my car fixed for the sun visor recall which I haven't done so they tell me it'll take 2.5 hours. I should leave and come back so they make me get a ride with a random driver who works for them to take me somewhere and come back when finished just for them to reach back out to me within 20 minutes and tell me they had no parts they had to order it. Which pissed me off because that wasted my time money and energy when they should have checked to see if the part was there before I left the dealership. Now who knows when I'll have the time to get this recall done. This recall has been since 2015 when I bought the vehicle and they only mentioned one recall to me since I've had the car which had something to do with the breaks. Jeep dealerships need to learn how to communicate better with better service going back to my lug nuts they said they had no clue what I was talking about!

Purchased 5/19. Reported engine stall while driving to NHTSA. Took vehicle to dealer for brake recall. Tech said air in brake lines may have caused problem. Did not stall for a month and assumed solved. Started again in August. Very dangerous vehicle. Stalls when slowing for right hand turns and left turns crossing traffic which almost got me into a crash on a highway. Others have reported same issue and no response from manufacturer. Cannot take passengers as this is a pending disaster and is unsafe

A little while after a year of purchasing our Jeep Grand Cherokee the leather dashboard started rippling and de-laminating. Since then, it has progressively gotten worse. It started on the far right corner of the passenger side but has since de-laminated on the drivers side corner and along the center defrosting cover. Due to the dashboard being made of leather, once it de-laminated the shrinking process began and will only get worse. This is a known issue with countless Jeep with leather interior. I am absolutely astounded that there has not been a recall on this manufacture defect.

Vehicle is making a popping noise, when turning or hitting bump replaced sway bar end links and tie rod-unable to locate exact problem at this time. I was driving today and without warning my front wipers turned on and could not be turned off, on inspecting further all components on the starting wheel and column are not operatable-no signals, cruise, headlights, stereo-nothing. Vehicle acts like its stuck in 4X4-making other noise while turning also having issue with dash board bubbling-possible safety concern as it may interfere with air bag deployment. I have contacted Jeep with all the above concerns, to which they state they cannot help with the problems vehicle has 103K miles. I am 3rd owner.
