Jeep quit going and motor quit......checked and found key turned off....restarted and only one problem since then........called new dealer in town and they said bring it by and they would "check it out" but didn't seem very interested"???"
A year and a half ago I was on my way back home from a half an hour drive from town when I decided to stop at my parents house to get a drink. I wasn't inside for less then ten minutes, when I went to leave my Jeep would not start at all. After a half hour later looking everything over I did notice the fuel pump fuse was melted and blown. I was asked bye american Chevrolet dealership if I had something plugged into my cigarette lighter that could of blown it. I've been a mechanic for 11 years now and I've never known to see the fuel pump fuse ran to other components meaning interior outlets. Now a half year later I have been having problems starting my Jeep at times and having no power to the motor at all. I want to get rid of this Jeep. Now I had a recall on the neutral safety switch and just today I get another recall for the ignition switch. I keep having axel popping sounds out of the front passenger side and I'm fed up with this Jeep.
While driving dashboard lights will all come on similar to what happens when you start the car. Other electronic components (radio, odometer) stop but engine continues to run. Can steer and brake but difficult. No error messages received. This has continued to happen with no warning over the past 9 months. Multiple mechanics have looked at the car but cannot identify a problem. It seems that many people have complained about similar problems.
My Jeep has constant flicker of dash lights and acting like it is gonna stall. Can't have radio on if lights are on or air if lights are on because I get the flicker and feeling of stalling.when I called dealership about this they told me they haven't been told about this problem. They told me to bring it in for a charge of $100 $ and they would check it out. Really..its getting to be a piece of crap that we get blown off about this!
While in a line of cars approaching a stop sign I reached my turn at the sign. When I stopped the engine just died and all electrical components worked. After shifting into park and turning the key the engine started again. As with others I do not have anything attached to my key and also my knees are not able to hit the key. The road leading to the stop sign is somewhat rough and it is possible I hit the key with my hand.
I was driving on a busy road at night approaching a 4 way traffic light intersection. I was going approximately 35-40 mph and the road conditions were dry. Suddenly the electric, lights, gauges, steering and braking system in my Jeep began flickering and spasming like my Jeep entire electric system was having seizures and was switching power on and off. To the cars ahead of me it looked like I was flashing my lights and the cars behind me as if I was turning my lights on and off rapidly. I pulled off the road into a parking lot and my Jeep continued to spasm and flicker on and off. I turned my vehicle off and let it sit in hopes that this issue was a one time electrical glitch and also because I couldn't safely drive it in this condition. I eventually started my vehicle again and began to drive thinking it was alright. Within minutes it began doing the same thing again. My vehicle has continued to randomly exhibit this behavior along with additionally all the gauge lights and sounds blinking and chiming for several minutes at a time. I never know when it is going to happen but when it does it is extremely dangerous and scary to be in the vehicle. I only have my ignition key on the key ring but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I have noticed that my ignition switch is extremely sensitive even when initially starting the vehicle.
Stopped at a stop sign, went to pull out and the motor was dead. I just drifted into the intersection. Put on the brake, turned the key & the motor started. My knee must have bumped the keychain and apparently it turned the ignition off. Luckily there was no traffic coming when I tried to pull out, otherwise I would've been T-boned.
I will be going at any speed and my Jeep will just die or spit and sputter like its not getting gas then the RPM gauge drops to zero all the dash lights come on. This happens on the highway in the middle of intersection and it happens intermittently so you never know when its going to happen. Took it to mechanic and they told me the valve body solenoid was bad. If you search any of this online you will see that there are several people with the same problem this needs to be a recall before someone ends up dead!!
The dash lights started flickering, then the brakes locked up and the Jeep just lost power and turned off. This was the first time that the Jeep's brakes locked up and lost power and this is enough to cause alarm and resulted with this complaint. I will not wait for a second time that the vehicle's brakes lock up and turns itself off at a more dangerous highway situation on a busy traffic and certainly not putting my family at this type of risk which is obviously a manufacturer's defect. [xxx], a customer service representative from Jeep that I have spoken to advised that Chrysler could possibly issue a recall if enough number of complaints were received from NHTSA. Am I really supposed to wait until my family gets injured before something gets done with this known issue? the dash lights/gauges issue has been ongoing and Jeep had been contacted a few years back to no avail. I also advised [xxx] (Jeep rep) about all four handles breaking at the same time. I had to open the door from the outside to let my daughter and her friend get out of the backseat. These handles should not break at all due to it's normal use and purpose. I request your department to please investigate this obvious safety issue, and avoid any injuries that this defect could cause. Thank you. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee (2006). Over the past 5 years, it has intermittently had problems. Sometimes while driving and after startup. These problems have always been loss of gauges, flashing lights in dash, what appears to be the traction control or brakes kicking in and the loss of power steering? when this first started happening I thought maybe the computer had been vibrated or jostled and had a glitch. Over time it would go away and 6 months or so later happen again! I have done everything in my power to stop this from happening, ie changing parts and trouble shooting the problems to no avail. I thought I had this narrowed down to a rusted connection from a ground wire connected to the block.....wrong again! this morning I had my 4 year old son in the Jeep and was taking a left at a busy intersection. I clearly had enough time to make the turn, but as I was turning it sounded like my anti lock brakes were kicking in mid turn with a car coming right at us! I made the turn pulled over on the side of the road. All my gauges were dead, check engine light on and only the gear selector was visible. I have read on many Jeep related forums, that this is not only happening to my Jeep but many others! while reading I have noticed one thing. In many cases these problems were solved by replacing the ignition switch! after reading this I further researched the problem against recalls. I found that, according to the wall street journal, NY times, usa today and forbes, Chrysler is allegedly recalling these vehicles with faulty ignition switches. So I called my local dealer. They looked my Jeep up in their database and told me they're were no recalls on my vehicle and that they haven't recalled any vehicles for faulty ignition switches. I would appreciate it if the NHTSA could help with some of these problems and answer some of these question I and many others have.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving various speeds on a bumpy road, the vehicle stalled when the contact's knee struck the ignition key. The dealer found no failure with the vehicle, but suggested that the contact remove everything except the ignition key from the key ring. The failure recurred two weeks later and the dealer replaced the crank and cam shaft sensors. The failure recurred a third time and the dealer replaced the ignition switch. The failure recurred three years after the last repair. The vehicle was not repaired again. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 3,500. Updated 8/19/14 updated 09/3/2014
Chrysler issued a N23 recall notice due to cracking circuit boards in the transfer case actuator (vehicle may inadvertently shift in to neutral). Prior to the application of this recall my vehicle was capable of engaging 4lo. Afterwards (immediately afterwards in the dealership parking lot) the transfer case would not shift. Each attempt would result in a "service 4xd system" and would trigger a C140F trouble code. Chrysler refuses to acknowledge the recall flash to be the issue. From Jeep forums I have found myself to be one of hundreds if not more that encountered this issue. This recall is in essence a software work-around for a hardware issue. This recall is obviously a cheap attempt at fixing a costly issue of replacing the defective actuators with new. As a consumer I expect the manufacturer to fix potentially dangerous issues (such as what N23 attempts to do). However, it is not acceptable in doing so to damage the vehicle further or render systems inoperable.
