The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 40 mph, there was a slight explosion sound. The contact moved the vehicle from the roadway and found that the fan blade, radiator and other under hood components were broken. The vehicle was towed to the dealer in which the vehicle was purchased. The dealer replaced the fan blade, radiator, hoses and connectors. The contact was able to locate NHTSA campaign id number: 06V199000 (engine and engine cooling: Cooling system: Fan) and when contacting the manufacturer, he was told his VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 140,000 and the current mileage 141,000.
The engine shuts down and the electrical system to start the car is shutdown while driving. I have had this happen to me numerous times and have not been able to find the resolution to it. It's a tremendous safety concern because it has happened to me while driving on several highways. The car attempts to turn over while trying to start it however none of the gauges are responding to the key in the ignition during turn over. I have read numerous forums with many people with the same problem. Changes have been made to everything from sensor's to PCM ( main computer ) to resolve the problem. In my case the computer system isn't storing any codes with a problem. Initially I changed the crank shaft position sensor because of the code but the problem continues to happen. To make matters worse because the entire system is shut down there is no power steering making it almost impossible to glide over to the shoulder.
Jeep 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo inline 6cyl I recently experienced low coolant and oil pressure problems. I had the water pump replaced, the oil sensor switch replaced, and the oil pump replaced. The repairs were done individually in that order. I am still experiencing low coolant although the car does not seem to overheat. I recently had a pressure test and there were no leaks. When the car is started in the morning I have the proper oil pressure. As soon as the car warms up the oil pressure fluctuates and eventually activates the alert indicator (bell sound). The engine sounds fine and there are no performance problems. I brought the car back to the service station that did the repairs. The mechanic suggested that I use a heavier oil for the pressure problem. I will let you know the results. This may be the last attempt before an engine overhaul. Jeep should have a recall for these problems.
I have had a slow coolant leak for the last year and cannot figure out why. Also the oil gauge is reading 0 at idle, but goes back to normal when driving. I also have had three different cylinder misfires in the last year. I have taken this vehicle to different repair shops and nobody can tell me where the coolant is going and if these are all related. I have replaced the water pump, oil pressure sensor switch, spark plugs, rail pack, spark plug boots, and thermostat. Vehicle has 120K miles.
2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L inline 6 with cracked cylinder head (between #3 & 4) allowing coolant fluid to leak into engine. Noticed coolant disappearing @90,000 miles. Had pressure test by 2 different dealers. Cracked cylinder head diagnosed by second dealer recently. Problem appears to be a defect in the cylinder head casting #0331. Discovered many other owners with same problem at carsurvey.org. Under Jeep Cherokee reviews. Please order a recall! I could not believe how many people have experienced the same scenario as myself on carsurvey.org website.

I bought the car in September 2007..in November I was on the highway and suddenly the car started to overheat had to get it towed to the nearest auto shop where they said the radiator was damaged and had to be changed...couple days later the fan stopped working which also had to be changed. After all the over heating the mechanic told me the engine burned out and also had to be replaced after the fact my car wouldnt start. Had the truck working for a while until April 2008 where my transmission started failing. I kept hearing a clicking noise and the truck wouldnt accelerate as fast it should have been. Had the transmission replaced at cottman transmission. After all this had happened the engine light came on and I couldnt get my inspection done, turned out to be a hose causing air to be released. It is now January 2009 and my truck has leaked out all its antifreeze once again its over heating. All in all since September 2007 I have spent over $3500-$4000 on this truck. Still making payments on the truck from college hill auto in Pennsylvania.
2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo: Cracked cylinder head. 143,000 miles. Engine must be replaced. Will cost $4,000. This engine problem sees to be extremely common.
I had a mysterious coolant leak from my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I had the water pump checked and it was fine. I had to add coolant and water to my Jeep everytime I went somewhere so it did not over-heat. I went to work and my Jeep was starting to over-heat. After my 8 hour shift I put in 2 gallons of water into the radiator. It seemed fine until I got about a mile from my apartment when my Jeep just stalled out. I had to get it towed back to my apartment. I had a mechanic come over and he thought I just blew a head gasket. As he went to replace it, he realized that my engine had blown up because of this problem. I do not have the money to fix this problem, also I still owe 7000 on it.
Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2000' losing anti freeze with no obvious source of leak. Now overheating to max temperature even though fully serviced with coolant.
Noticed in fall of 07 that the oil pressure was dropping to zero when the vehicle warmed up. Check gauges light would come on. In winter 07, started having to refill the coolant. I had the coolant checked and the dealership said there was no problem. Recently had trouble starting the engine and took it to a local repair shop. Shop technician said my engine is going to blow and should replace it asap. Unacceptable! I followed every oil change religiously!
I have a coolant leak that I can not get fixed. No visible leak, I have had pressure test after test, I had the head gasket fixed, radiator cap, alot of work done on it and it continues to lose coolant at rapid rates. Every three to four days I am filling my coolant up. Also, my rear brake lights go out and don't work when my lights are on, and I have had those replaced numerous times also!! very frustrating... no one can find the source of the leak and I have read page after page of complaints on the internet concerning the exact thing with the exact model!!
My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee is having problems like many other people. The low coolant light constantly comes on and I have to add coolant weekly, although there is no visible leak. Mechanics have told me they cannot find the problem until this past week when a mechanic told me the coolant was leaking into my engine and mixing with my oil. The mechanic estimated I will need a completely new engine within a few months since the coolant-oil mixture has been running through my engine for some time now. The mechanic stated that the engine will stop running in the very near future. My rear left brake and tail light goes out when I step on the brakes. I have had several issues with the rotors and finally had the mechanic replace them with a different kind.
I have a 200 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and after reading many sites (blogs, complaint sites, etc.) I see that others are having the exact same problems I am. My Jeep has 101,000 miles on it and it is experiencing coolant leaks and also the crack in the cylinder head between the 3rd and 4th cylinder. Now the Y way I see it, is that is soooooo many people are experiencing this problem then there should be a recall on it. It is not fair to the consumers that we are shelling out all of this money for a problem that is in the vehicle design.
The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The headlights and the plastic shield that covers the headlights are dull and fail to provide adequate illumination. The service engine light has remained illuminated for four days. The contact will have the vehicle serviced by the dealer on October 1, 2007. The mechanic stated that the leak detection pump was also defective (code 1494). The current and failure mileages were 119,000.
Just disgusted with the number of repairs I have needed to make to this vehicle. In the last six years the following repairs have been done: Brakes replaced 3 times and need to be done again door window motor cooling fan, radiator evaporator coils hood lifters-hood will not stay up drivers door clunks starter compressor leaking axle seals and now I have a cracked head on the engine. The Jeep just failed out of the blue. Glad I was close to home. This vehicle is a lemon. Buy american again--most likely not. Are our "american" vehicles being built with inferior parts" or are they programmed to be obsolete within a few years"
200 Jeep Grand Cherokee. 98000 miles engine surges on start and when idling. Surge rises to 2500 RPM falls to 1500, rises to 2000 etc until it reaches 700 RPM normal idle. When in operation the surge occurs and would move the car forward if brakes are not applied. Surge can also be felt when decelerating and braking. Intermittent but persistent problem for start up and operation. Does not occur often enough or for long enough periods to catch on diagnostics. If gears engaged when in high idle it squeals rubber even with brakes applied.
: the contact stated while the brake pedal was depressed, the tires felt square and there was an excessive stopping distance. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, who determined the rotors were warped. The rotors and pads were replaced. The brake rotors have been replaced three times, but the problem persisted. The cranksahft position sensor was replaced. The consumer stated he could feel the transmission shudder. Updated 03/22/06.
Sudden loss of power on three occasions. While driving at highway speeds, vehicle instantly looses all power. Obvious problems navigating to shoulder on multilane highway in traffic. Could easily be stranded in lane. Difficulty steering. Requires towing. Has occurred three times in last two years, twice in last month. First time, replaced computer. Second time, replaced transmission sensor. Third time, undetermined.
