My 200 Jeep Grand Cherokee had brakes replaced twice under 30,000 miles. Right now I am at 37,000 and looks like I will have visit the dealer again to have my brakes replaced, again. When asked about frre replacement the dealer answered that there is a technical srvice bulletin (tsb) out there regarding the issue, but I still have to pay for the replacement - no exceptions. Here is information on two tsbs' (!) regarding the issue. 05-005-01A Sep 01 brakes - roughness or pedal pulsation 05-003-02B Dec 02 brakes - pulsation during light to moderate application

I have talked with several people who have had the same problem. They have had to get the front rotors ground because the rotors cause a terrible vibration when we push down on the brakes.

Rear differential: Complete lockup at 55 mph !!! as I traveled down a county hwy to just outside of town after work. Almost killed 2 pedestrians as the back end skidded 100 ft in complete lockup, dealer replacing the rear axle and looking at the front differential since it seems to have problems caused by this sudden failure of the back. Brakes: I have had rotors turned 3 times (twice by dealer under warranty and once by independent shop) and since purchased complete new rotors and pads on all 4 tires work by midas due to severe pulsation when braking. I have noticed lots of complaints for exactly the same thing on internet. Jay laszewski

Recurring warping of brake rotors under normal use causing excessive vibration in steering under braking at all speeds. Rotors have been resurfaced twice (at 7986 and 29489 miles), rotors replaced (at 45176 miles), problem still recurring. Dealer indicates caliper problem that Chrysler is aware of and developing fix, but no notification or follow up from dealer.

Leased vehicle on 7/10/02. Brakes began to pulse and pull to right on application at about 6000 miles. Dealer machined front rotors and replaced pads under warranty at 7897 miles. Same situation at 20000 miles. Dealer turned front rotors at 24767 miles and called it "courtesy". said warranty on brakes, rotors only 12000mi. Service manager advised this is common problem on 99-00 Jeep and he spends much time turning rotors on Jeep vehicles. Even had to buy special machine to turn rotors in place on vehicle. Says some get so bad they can't be controlled on brake application. He says problem is bad rotors from supplier to daimler-Chrysler. Now at 33000 miles, this vehicle again has failed brake rotors and is rapidly becoming unsafe for my family's transportation. Judging from the number of complaints on your website and on the number of websites devoted to this defect, I would think you have enough information to force a recall. Or are injuries necessary to initiate action? I expect your Agency to get and keep this type of junk off the road. It might be acceptable for daimler in germany but not here!

Brakes began to shake vehicle's front end violently when applied at speeds above 50 mph. I originally noticed problem at about 15,000 miles, but problem continued to worsen. Brakes had to be replaced and rotors resurfaced at 19,000 miles on odometer. I have never replaced brakes on a car at 19,000 miles. Dealership told me there was nothing they could do. After $190 dollar repair the car is back on the road till I guess the next brake repair at 35,000 miles. This defect in the braking system needs to be addressed by daimler/Chrysler. Someone will lose control of the vehicle and die.

Grand Cherokee 4WD

Our Grand Cherokee developed a severely pulsating brake pedal at 7,000 miles of non off road use, city driving, the selling dealer replaced the front rotors. This occurred again about 15,000 miles later, again with very gentle vehicle usage. The manufacturer claims the vehicle is outside of warranty period at 2 years, and brakes are not warrantied. We maintain there is a design deffect in this system allowing premature front rotor warpage leading to severe pedal and vehicle pulsation on brake applications at higher speeds. We have the assurance of a multitude of other Jeep owners that we are not alone in our problem with this brake system. We have spent considerable time discussing this design deffect with DaimlerChrysler, but they have obviously shifted their obligation to possible litigation, but not to insitute the required recall and component correction. Can a brake system that suddenly alters from correct function, to one that causes the vehicle to shudder in an aggressive manner and cause the operators foot to shake severely after such an extremely short duty cycle be deemed normal? we are careful drivers, and can now avoid injury and property damage by repairing the problem, others might not be so lucky. Forgive the length of this reply, the wilkinsons.

When putting on brakes, front end would shimmy and vibrate. Took to dealer and they changed rotors/ resurfaced rear rotors, and replaced shoes. Dealer keeps replacing defect with same fix, and problem keeps reoccurring.. the brakes fail every 10,000 miles. First two brake jobs were replaced under warranty. Consumer refused to pay for the third brake job. Dealer resurfaced rotors for free.
