Steering column had vibration that has been getting progressively worse. Took vehicle to a dealership that examined vehicle. Dealership determined that rotors were warped and had to be resurfaced. Also, pads had to be replaced.
Rear disc brakes on the vehicle were defective from date of purchase which is why I had the accident described in the previous section. When I asked my dealership to check the brakes numerous times before and after the accident nothing was done by my dealership. They finally installed new rear disc breaks on 3/26/2001 when I complained one more time that there was vibration in the steering wheel and the whole car while braking. From the time frame given it looks like my dealership was trying to charge me for new rear brakes after the warranty on them expired but I held my ground and got it fixed for free. If the brakes were in normal condition, I would have avoided the accident that I was in and wouldn't have had $5000 of damage to my vehicle. I have all of the paperwork to prove my point.
Rotors warp while consumer is driving, causing brake pads to heat up. Then when going through water pads quickly cool down. This has occurred on his 1998, grand, Cherokee. Notified dealer.

Front brake rotors warped at 9,000 miles, resurfaced, warped again by 18,000 miles, rotors and pads replaced. Warped again by 23,000 miles, dealer refused to fix. Warp caused pulsation and steering wheel wobble.
When slowing down from 65 to 55 or less steerling wheel will shake while applying brakes took to dealership and they said its not that bad yet. Could be balance of tires or brakes. Will take back for the third time.
When braking a vibration is felt in the pedal. This first occurred at approximately 8,000 miles. The brake disc was turned and new pads installed under waranty. The same problem occurred at approximately 16,000 miles. Daimler Chrysler is now saying this is not a waranty item because the vehicle has over 12,000 miles. There is an obvious defect with the front brakes. The solution is not to keep turning the disks and installing new pads. After 3 turns the disks will have to be replaced and this will likely happen after the vehicle is passed the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty period.
The brake rotors had to be resurfaced at approximately 9,000 miles, while under a 12/12 warranty. These rotors had to be resurfaced again at 22283 miles, at a cost of $259 because the brakes were surging upon application at low speeds.
