Transmission has been replaces 3 times and is slipping again. I have spoken with several auto repair places and other 1005 Jeep owners and the all say the air conditioning system and transmission in the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee have issues. I also replaced the A/C and it is not cooling that great anymore- maybe freon but the transmission is a joke. Will never buy another Jeep!!!!!!

Grand Cherokee 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission

The evaporator leakes into the passenger compartment when the ac works, have been told that the accumulator is bad so it will not hold a charge. The speedometer will work sporadically, sometimes it works fine, other times it doesn't work at all, and the sometimes it bounces around, though the speed control still works even when speedometer does not. The speed sensor has been replaced and that has not made any difference. The clock on the radio as well as other display items will sometimes light up and other times not, like the wires are coming loose or something. The rear axle housing is bent even though it hasn't pulled anything heavy and has only been driven on paved roads for the 3 years before. Engine leaks oil from the intake manifold gasket and other areas. Have had to have the input and output seals replaced on the transmission twice.

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, consumer feels that the vehicle was unsafe and dealer refused to acknowledge consumer's safety concern. Dealership will not write down the safety concerns substituted terms like it felt differently instead of consumer's safety concerns, the vehicle has already had the secondary detent system of floor shifter in a recall, the item that was used to replace the recalled part was unsafe, dealer told the consumer that the gear shift should feel different. Gear shift will not stay in gear. Consumer found that the automatic stick shift will still move even when the release button has not been pushed, the gear shifter does not line up with the letters (P, N, R, etc.

In shop for 3rd transmission replacement over about 70,000 miles. Also, a list of repaires too numerous to list cost $3,500 out of pocket since 1999. That does not count thousands of $ in warranty work.

Replaced fuel pump on 2/27/03 after I purchased the Jeep used on 2/26/03. Replaced fuel pump again on 3/37/03 (broke down in another state). Took Jeep in for transmission failure on 4/3/03. Sat in shop for 30 days while warranty company decided what to do with it. Replaced transmission. Jeep dies in traffic on 5/5/03. Called shop got runaround. Called warranty company and took to another shop. Told it was fuel pump again (warranty company didn't pay the last $550 to replace fuel pump) and also the gas tank is deteriorating, warranty company will not cover due to high fuel pump replacement. Also told it could be crank sensor in 4.0L engines. Not happy to pay $9000 for a vehicle that has only been driven 3 weeks out of 3 months. Still fighting with warranty company.

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 318V8 all time-all wheel drive. 294 transfer case. 59,900 miles. Vehical not used to tow anything. Viscus coupler is failing, causing wheels to lock up. Viscus coupler allows front wheels to rotate at differant speed when wheels are turned. When wheels start to lock up, this can and will be potentialy dangerous. I have confirmed many complaints from schaefer motor sales, 8320 Washington ave., racine, wi. 53406. (262)-886-6800. Chrysler Jeep needs to do a recall!! please advise asap. Thank you.

Safety recall warning B02 shift detent fix caused new additional problems. (1.) shift mechanism binds, but don't appear to have positive position lock into park indication. Binding could be a possible problem for people with disability or limited strength. (2.)shift lever can be moved with very little (virtually no) resistance from a reverse position, thru neutral, and into drive. An inadvertant shift of such manner could cause damage to transmission. (3.)shift lever can be moved with little (virtually no) resistance from drive to neutral which could cause an enginge overspeed if inadvertantly occurs and if in cruise. This sudden disengagement of the transmission could also cause a sudden slow down without warning to following traffic creating a highway safety hazard.

The retainer on the shift linkage inside of the transmission body can fall off or fail and the transmission will not lock in park. When this occurs the operator can put the transmission into park and think that the transmission is locked up but it is not. Then the operator can get out of the vehicle and if it is on any incline at all the vehicle can and will roll away out of control. This happened to my wife at the exact moment that I was about to walk between the rear of my truck and the front of the forementioned Jeep Cherokee. If I had not seen it start rolling I would of had both my legs crushed between the two bumpers. As it was I jumped back and watched the Jeep roll into my truck. It didn't hit hard enough to damage either vehicle but if I had been between them they probably would had cut my legs off. I took this vehicle to louisburg garage, cuba city, wi. To be repaired and they were the dealership that repaired the problem. They had to remove the valve body from the transmission to repair the linkage. They were the ones who told me that the retainer had failed. If this happens to anybody else the results could be disastrous with maybe someone getting maimed or killed.
