Vehicle would be reluctant to shift out of 4 wheel drive. Grinding noises would be heard when trying to steer the Jeep. Finally, a 2 X 3 inch chunk blew out of the housing of the transfer case assembly. After researching the NHTSA site, it looks like many have had problems with this assembly. Most described the same problem I had. It cost me $1500 to replace this defective part.

While on highway vehicle would not change gears. Vehicle would not go into gear. Also, it has a long delay before it goes into gear. The transmission has been replaced twice since the vehicle was new. Nlm
Hen shifting from park to reverse it would not shift into reverse, consumer had to try a few times. When shifting to drive, and as soon as vehicle started to go forward, it would pop back into reverse. After numerous visits to dealer, transmission was replaced. This did not remedy the problem.
Vehicle was idling in driveway. Strapped child in carseat, got in, put our seat belts on, put foot on brake and car from park to reverse. Car accelerated at high rate of speed forward with foot on brake the whole time. Foot never touched the gas. Car ran into a rock wall continuing to accelerate, went up the wall and almost rolled comming to rest half on half off the wall.
Many of the problems I have had with this vehicle could have caused a fatal crash. There are many failures apparently not being addressed by Chrysler. Jeep vehicles should be sold along with legal representation. The list of problems I have encountered so far are as follows: Complete automatic transmission, lf axle, viscous coupler in transfer case--big $$, complete A/C system, cruise control, air bag sensor, speedometer assy.+ the recalls as of date--fr. Brake rotors, shift interlock--very unsatisfied 1st time Jeep owner.
I had to pay $1400 for transmission rebuild because of bad front clutch seal. I suspect the seal failed because of incorrect machined front clutch from the manufacturer. The problem resulted in alarming delayed reverse and slipping 2-3 shifts.
Consumer just put vehicle in park and took the key out of the ignition, and then left vehicle inside. Then, vehicle fell out of gear and rolled backwards into another vehicle. Has not cantacted dealer yet.
Transmission had to be completely rebuilt at 112 km. Transmission was hard to change, and gears would be slipping. Contacted dealer, and dealer would do nothing.
