CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2019 Cherokee is racking up engine complaints for suddenly shutting down while driving. But the problem could possibly be related to the increasingly defective 9-speed transmission which suffers from hard shifts, lurching problems, and a wiring harness defect that can cause sudden shutdowns or an unexpected shift into neutral.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled and jerked intermittently without warning. The contact coasted to the shoulder of the roadway, turned off and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to frank fletcher Dodge Chrysler Jeep (3314 stadium blvd, jonesboro, ar 72404) where it was diagnosed and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact also mentioned that the oil needed to be changed every 3,000 miles. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred multiple times. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 18V344000 (engine and engine cooling) as a possible solution the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.

Less than a year into the purchase of a brand new 2019 Jeep Cherokee, the auto start-stop failed completely during daily rides (before then, it used to work perfectly -- at the red light for example). Took it to the dealership service center where I had bought my car from, they told me the feature functions on a separate battery and that they could do nothing crazy but manually (temporarily) recharge whatever battery they were referring to. The service manager also cluelessly told me to give it a few hours after each ride until the battery responsible for the auto start-stop functionality recharges itself. Although I followed their instruction, I got zero result. Today at the time of writing this complaint, it is getting close to two years after my purchase and there occurs another annoying bug: The main battery keeps dying on me every time I want to start the car. Also, the front display shows an "engine temperature hot" message as the battery fails to start the car, although I do not believe the message is relevant since my car had been sitting in a fairly cool spot for at least 10 hours - no reason for any parts of it to get hot while the engine is shut down.

Engine will consume 4-5 quarts of oil between scheduled/pre programmed oil changes. All oil cha tea have been conducted as scheduled. Engine will shut down spontaneously due to low oil if oil is not checked at every refueling.

After coming to a stop at an intersection with a red light I was at a complete stop and the auto engine on/off feature activated. When the light turned green I went to accelerate but as soon as I applied the accelerator the displays, dash lights, and headlights all turned off. The vehicle's engine also turned off. The electronics stayed off for several more seconds before coming back on but I could not start the vehicle for nearly a minute. While attempting to turn the vehicle back on I had put it in park, had my foot on the brake, and had held the push to start button in all three positions. The engine did not attempt to turn over at any time. After approximately 1 minute, I was finally able to start the vehicle again and continue to my home. Once I arrived, I cycled through the vehicle information screens. The battery read an output of 13.6 volts. The vehicle acted normally afterwards and no warning lights appeared after or were on before.

While coming to a stop at a freeway entrance I slowed then when I was able to enter the traffic stream I accelerated and there was no acceleration or was slower than normal. This has happened several times. The car engine in not off but at idle. This is dangerous because you have to accelerate rapidly. Sometimes acceleration comes on abruptly after 2 seconds of pedal being pushed down

Engine consumes oil. The engine consumes more than a quart of oil every 1000 to 1500 miles, and when the oil is too low the engine shuts down. This is very dangerous when driving on the express ways or in traffic.

2019 Jeep Cherokee completely stalled while decelerating on the interstate. Lost all power, steering, and brakes. Was able to restart the vehicle as soon as I put it in park. Called 3 different Jeep dealers who told me they can't diagnose it unless the check engine light is in and that I should call back if it does it again. The 4 cylinder model has a recall for a software glitch for the exact same issue, but mine is a V6. I hope I live through replicating the experience so I can call the dealer to be told they can't/won't figure out what's wrong.

My 2019 Jeep Cherokee 2.4L engine stalls whenever the oil level gets below 60%. it usually happens when making turns or slowing down. The entire car shuts off while in drive and shows the battery light on dash. Latest time was when I was on the highway going 80 mph when the car stalls when making a turn around a bend. I have been in 3 almost accidents because of this issue. I've taken it in to a dealership and I was told it was to protect the engine if the oil levels go to low. Have to put the car into park then shut the car off completely, then start it up again. Last happened 2 months ago before an oil change and now experiencing with 61% oil life and checked the dipstick which was more than enough oil to run.
