CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2019 Cherokee is racking up engine complaints for suddenly shutting down while driving. But the problem could possibly be related to the increasingly defective 9-speed transmission which suffers from hard shifts, lurching problems, and a wiring harness defect that can cause sudden shutdowns or an unexpected shift into neutral.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brakes would activate causing the vehicle to stall and shut down immediately without any warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that oil was leaking from the vehicle. The oil level sensor had been replaced but the failure persisted. The contact stated that while reversing, the vehicle made a bumping and thumping sound underneath the vehicle. Additionally, the brakes were squealing while the brake pedal was depressed. The contact also stated that several attempts were needed while attempting to start the vehicle. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the brakes might not have been properly installed on the vehicle. The brakes and the battery had been replaced; however, the failures persisted. The contact stated that on another occasion while driving approximately 25 MPH, the brakes unintendedly activated, causing the vehicle to stall. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact became aware that antifreeze was leaking from the vehicle. The contact called AAA and the vehicle was jumpstarted after several attempts. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and had the vehicle towed to the residence. The contact stated that the failure was persistent, and the vehicle needed to be jumpstarted regularly. The contact stated that the vehicle would only drive for short distances before stalling and shutting off. The failure had occurred 3 times. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

My vehicle is leaking in the front and passenger seat and my emergency brake comes on and I can't disengage it unless I stop the car and turn it off and back on. Sometimes it takes 2 times to do this. In November, twice I was merging into traffic going 45 miles per hour and it happened. I prayed I wouldn't get smashed. I turned the car off and back on and I was able to disengage the emergency brake. On 1/3/2025, it happened as I was backing out of my driveway onto traffic. I had to turn the car on and off 2 times before I could disengage the emergency brake. I was lucky no vehicles traveling on the road. There is a terrible sound and then the car bucks and you are jarred. I read about an investigation on this same issue back in July 2022. My dealer says until they can replicate the problem they can't fix it. Please help!

2019 Jeep Cherokee with only 35,000 miles. There was a recall previously for lateral acceleration sensors that covered over 40,000 2019 Cherokees. This vehicle is affected with the same problem, but I-??m being told that because the VIN doesn-??t fall in a particular range it is not covered. The repair could end up being extremely expensive due to the labor required to repair the defective sensor. The car displays multiple warnings that Electronic Stability Control and 4WD are unavailable. Codes pulled revealed one fault code, C0061 which is for the lateral acceleration sensor which also is tied into the airbag system. Recall V63 (NHTSA 19V-449) issued in August 2019 is related to this exact issue. There are numerous reports of the same problem occurring with other 2019 Jeep Cherokees on Jeep owner forums. Jeep should have expanded the recall to cover this known defect.

My family and I drove from San Antonio, TX to El Paso, TX on [XXX]. In the car were 4 passengers, including a 11 month old child. At the start of the drive, a warning message that read "4WD overheated. Temporarily unavailable" was seen. The alert showed 1 time and upon a quick search online, was seemingly insignificant. It never showed up again during the drive. We did leave around 4pm so the sun was out and hot, we believed it to be a temporary warning that would not affect our drive as we did not need 4WD during the drive. The jeep did not have a lot of miles on it and was only serviced at the dealership at appropriate windows as recommended by professionals. Once we reached El Paso, a strong smell occurred. Followed shortly by fire and flames coming from the front area, under the hood, near the engine. We pulled off to the side of the road while the flames grew bigger. The infant and all 4 adults were able to exit the vehicle timely but the fire was very large. Many onlookers stopped to check on our welfare. There was an investigation done but all that was said was that there was in fact a fire, and it did in fact start near the front of the vehicle by the engine. Chrysler said they could not determine anything further as there was damage from the fire. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Failing part - 8.4" Uconnect radio/control center of the Jeep. The Uconnect system is failing and started ghosting the vehicle, changes the radio, heat and AC, turns on backup camera, calls 911, etc. This specifically becomes a when it starts calling phone numbers and turning backup camera and becomes a distraction to the driver. The problem has been confirmed as the system control panel has delaminated and needs to be replaced by a Jeep Dealer. We were advised to have a Dealer check and confirm the control panel has delaminated and confirm it needs to be replaced. We followed this guidance from Chrysler/Jeep and Uconnect and told that once we did this and they confirmed it needed replaced they would start the process to replace the control panel. There were no warning signs that this was starting and first started about 6 months ago. It has now progressed to nearly every time use the vehicle the control panel starts ghosting all the controls. We have researched and understand that this is an issue with all the Uconnect 8.4 control systems, doesn't matter which vehicle it is in. What we have been able to find is it has been determined a safety issue in other vehicles and Chrysler/Jeep is replacing them. But for us we were told they would only warranty it to 60,000 miles. We have about 89, xxx miles on our Jeep. I don't understand how it can be determined a safety issue and Chrysler/Jeep can get by only covering this to 60,000 miles. It becomes a major safety issue when it randomly and constantly starts changing the temperature, fan speed, back up camera, radio, calling numbers including 911, this can only be stopped by turning the system completely off. this causes loss of many functions to the vehicle.

One day before the incident occurred, I was sitting at a red light and the Start/Stop light was green like normal, all of a sudden, it turned amber, and the engine kicked back on. It drove normally, the next day, I tried to start it and it wouldn't turn over, the gas tank was almost full. This is the 2nd time a battery change was done. The first time was for normal service, the battery needed to be changed. The Start/Stop system has worked normally since I bought it (in 2018) The mileage is ~83,000

At random times the radio will start changing stations on its own and it will also dial phone numbers. Most recently it dialed 911 while grandkids were in the car. It will also turn the heat or AC on and off, changes temperature settings, sometimes it turns on the backup camera. everything that is on the Uconnect control panel is affected. The only way to get it to stop is to shut the Uconnect radio system off. This is a safety distraction when it starts these problems. From the research I have done other vehicles with this same radio Uconnect system have safety recalls issued, it needs to be extended to all vehicles with this system.

Earlier this month, July, 2024 my car experienced a crash or malfunction of the electrical cluster which has caused all systems like (nav, radio, phone, climate) to not work and automatically turn on and off and switch between apps. Of immediate concern is my car keeps calling 911 after stating the SOS call was unsuccessful. The instrument panel cluster is non operational as stated in the recall. There was a recall for this exact problem stating only 52 Jeep Cherokees were impacted; mine is excluded. The Safety Recall is UC4/NHTSA 18V-917 Instrument Panel Cluster. I believe there is too much of a coincidence between my issue and the exact reason for the recall. I cannot get the company to simply let me talk with someone with knowledge of the recall. Ultimately, I want Chrysler to accept my recall per their own communication around the problem.

PCM fails intermittently. Dealership is replacing it and has the defective one. Safety is definitely an issue because the vehicle stalls without adequate time to pull off of the road. Unable to move it off the road because it does not engage the transmission. Dealer has been able to replicate and confirmed the problem. Component has not been inspected by anyone other than the mechanic at the dealership. Several warning lights go off just as the problem occurs but not in time to get out of unsafe situations. Recall #18V524000 on 8/8/2018 covers the problem I am experiencing but my vehicle is not in the VIN series covered by the recall. I strongly believe the series my car belongs to should be included. This is a safety issue.
