About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
While driving at 70 mph in fast lane of major high, slight uphill grade, engine RPM increased rapidly and loss of power transfer to wheels as if in neutral. Coasted to side of road (fortunately light traffic) and at about 25 mph transmission engaged and I returned to highway. In about 5 more miles same loss of power to wheels occurred and then re-engaged as vehicle came to stop. Following day, after about 10 miles while at 55 mph, Jeep again lost connection to wheels and engine RPM increased. Pulled over to side of roadway (local county route with moderate 2-way traffic), stopped engine. Started engine several times but transmission would not engage in any gear (reverse, fwd etc.) in any selected gear location. This Jeep has active drive II. Had Jeep towed to authorized service. Dealer response possible overheated ptu, will require further investigation. My research indicates may be part of recall S55/NHTSA 16V-529.
The car stalled in the middle of the driving on 11/4. Jeep's doagnostics states there are engine issues specifically with the cams part which causes for the car to stall unexpectedley and cause major risk leading to accident and death. The engine was bought brand new and properly maintained. It is unacceptable for a 4-year old car/engine to fail with that short life span
Electronic parking brake module connector water intrusion which causes the module to short out and the wiring harness corrosion. This causes the parking break to engage and disengage without warning. This also prompts an error that the 4WD is unavailable. Confirmed with patriot Jeep in oakland md that the 4WD will not work on 11/18/2019. I was able to get my car to move from my driveway by putting my seat belt on and holding the break, and then pressing the gas to release the parking break. Mopar told me this was not covered under warranty, and I found numerous complaints on this issue. I was also able to find a bulletin published by mopar about this issue. It appears there is water getting into the vehicle causing corrosion which could lead to an accident if someones brake would engage, or 4WD would fail in inclement weather.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. While driving approximately 65 mph, the service shifter warning indicator suddenly illuminated momentarily. The contact continued driving and the vehicle suddenly stalled. The steering wheel also seized when attempting to turn the vehicle. The failures lasted briefly and the contact continued driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
My 2015 Jeep Cherokee latitude has a V-6 motor and the 9 speed transmission. My problem is with the shifting of the transmission. The transmission will shift hard and with a terrible jolt that actually moves me in my seat. This has been occurring for the last 3 years, since 2016, the hard shift occurs upon acceleration from a stop and between 1st 2nd 3 gear, . this normally happen at a normal accerlating speed hardly ever happens when I am accerlating at high speed. This hard shifting seems to happen like I said during slow speed accerlating and and driving in slower city traffic. It feels like the transmisson could break at any time because of the terrible jerking, jolting, and harshness of the shift. This hard shifting as been going on continually for the last 3 years ago. I bought this Jeep brand new in 2015 and this has been an habitually problem for the last 3 years. This happens on a regular basis this is not an intermitten problem.

The dash warning light it tells me to service the shifter but every mechanic I talk to says it not serviceable it effects the manual shifting when the light is on it wont shift manually I don't know what to do it will come on and I turn the engine off when I turn it back on its off it doesn't always come on but it is coming on more often it comes on when vehicle is in motion sometimes it comes on when I start it if it was on when I shut it off it doesn't matter if I'm city or highway driving it just comes
Have had 2015 Jeep since 19000 miles nothing but issues after purchase. Shifter light comes on had it looked at they fixed the shifter. A month later same light this time they replaced the wiring and a bezel. Well guess what's broken again and I'm no longer under warranty. This part keeps failing why do I need to keep paying for a bad design. Why can't they figure it out. Also my car has had a hard shift at 40 mph cant wait for that bill. Car is always in motion with failing shifter.
So I have 2 different issues with my transmission. First issue is when yielding ( not stop) ill give my Jeep gas, it feels as though im in neutral and my engine RPM goes up wont move, all of a sudden it'll find itself peel out and take off after about 3 seconds or so. Secondly when coming from a complete stop taking off once the Jeep gets to about fourth or fifth gear or so the RPM gets to abut 3,000 before switching to next gear it makes this huge knock sound and it feels like I just hit a huge pot hole. Both these issues are intermittent. But its really scary when happens with on coming traffic. It happens on city streets and highways.
Check shifter message. While driving. All the lidhts on the console light up. (P.R, N, D, S ) intermittenet problem and seems to be weather related (temperature change), the dealer has flashed the computer so the check engine light will not come on or register a code. This has been going on now for over a year. Dealer can't duplicate the problem.the vehicle is now out of warranty. Currently at 27300 miles.
Since purchasing 2015 Jeep Cherokee it has been more at the dealers than my home. It has been a nightmare, problems with transmission, sensors, and radio etc. It has been replaced numerous times for substantial defects and it continues to do so. This falls under the lemon law. It's getting to the point I am seeking an attorney, if my warranty is not extended and this is not fix at no charge to me. Last night the Jeep stop in the middle of the freeway almost caused an accident with warnings of (shift to P then desired gear) and service airbag system. This is my life you are playing with, for you're on going defects. I am a loyal Jeep customer. I have a Jeep Wrangler, Jeep compass and sebring Chrysler. All I am asking is for my piece of mind and not worry about paying for anything when I have a defected and it's not safe to drive. Please respond and solved this problem asap. Thanks again and have a bless day.
When I am driving on the street I always feel a jerking when I accelerate after braking. While driving on the highway or expressway when I accelerate I notice a jerk and when I decelerate my car shakes and vibrates.
Car went into ' limp' mode. Traction control went off, message, 4-wheel drive is not available. My car lost power and I haft to use manual mode to shift. Dealer stated, that even though I gave them the trouble codes, they could not duplicate problem. Service shifter, light came on but when I restart it goes away
Car seems to down shift, shift into nuetral, shift or jump out of gear. Service shifter light keeps coming on.has happened while vehicle was in motion on a city street.
During normal operation the vehicle will shift very hard at initial engagement of the power train and sometimes after reaching 4th or 5th gear. The vehicle lunges forward very hard. The some times cause a major whiplash action on the passenger. Sitting at a light the power train will nock hard when engaging the gears, also after reaching about 10mph it seems to miss a gear.
Driving 55 on rural highway, transmission message appears. Car would not downshift or up shift. Pulled into a driveway and turned the car off. Issue seemed to go away and get me to my destination. Upon my return trip issue also returned 4 more times. This is a huge safety risk, had this happened while turning on some of our roads it could easily cause a very bad accident. Car has had issues before with service shift messages, as well and a slew of other issues documented by the dealer. All to do with powertrain.
We bought a 2015 Jeep Cherokee in 2016 and without being told of the issues with the transmissions issues. We have had our Jeep in the shop four times with transmissions issues of shifting hard and now going into neutral when in drive and the brakes going hard and the Jeep coming to a stop. The anit slide has now came on and the Jeep shakes. The updates came one day when I was getting onto the highway going 65 mph and the Jeep went to 30 mph with my grandkids in the car and two disels one behind me blowing the horn because he almost hit me and one to the side of me. My husband was coming home from a dr visit again the Jeep went into a neutral state while in the drive position and the Jeep stopped and he was almost hit then the Jeep jerked and went into gear so he went into a shopping center and had to stop and kill the Jeep and restart the Jeep to make the Jeep restart just to get it home. It went back to the shop that night! we have had the Jeep in the shop for hard shifting when taking off and now it is hard shifting when taking off and down shifting, anti slide randomly comes on, brakes are not properly stopping the car. Go to the dealer where we bought it and they only offered $7500 for it when we owe $15, 000 and this is so ridiculous. Called Jeep and awaiting a call, they stated they have to call the dealer. In the mean time I had to buy another car because ours is to unsafe to drive! the Jeep is sticking in gear and the tac meter is staying on 3 or 4. then when you turn the Jeep off and turn it back on it may or may not work. We have backed it out of our driveway and put into drive and it shifts so hard into first and second gear. Now since the last time we picked it up from the shop the Jeep has now started loosing power when you attempt to drive. We have parked the Jeep and decided it isn't safe!
3-4 months after purchasing my 2015 Jeep Cherokee sport I got a "service shifter soon" message and all the lights on the gear shift lit up. I had the car towed to a dealer and they "fixed" the problem under warranty. Now, out of warranty, the same message and lighting of the gear shift lights is happening again. It usually happens right after starting but has happened while driving a couple of times.
Automatic start/stop system doesn't always engage. The transmission stays in 3rd gear after coming to a stop at a stop sign or traffic light and the car has high revolutions and jerks unit it down shifts to 1st gear when the gas pedal is pressed. Causing hesitation in engine and putting me and my family in close calls for accidents.
While driving a message came up on the dash "service shifter" while driving in town. The prnd lights are all red. I could not get the message to go away.
I have the service shifter light coming on regularly. It started this spring and has continued to get worse. I have contacted Jeep and they won't answer any questions for me. They simply say to take it to the dealership. I have read a lot of forums and see that dealerships don't know how to fix the issue, they simply replace parts until the issue goes away. The problem then comes back on again several months later. One instance they changed the same parts three times. When is Jeep going to step up and own the problem? ridiculous that a company won't stand behind a $35,000 vehicle.
