The vehicle experienced ABS module failure. The consumer felt the vehicle part should not have failed. The ABS module had already been replaced prior to receiving recall notice 021002. The manufacturer informed the consumer, the recall and the failure of the ABS were not related and therefore the consumer would not be reimbursed.

Isuzu Rodeo campaign notice 02I-002. This is a safety improvement campaign dealing with ABS, coil integrated module replacement. The explanation is that when applying brakes on a bumpy road surface or when one side of the road is more slippery than the other, you may encounter extended stopping distances. This could lead to a crash. In my case, this led to a minor crash with another vehicle which resulted in minor damage to the front bumper of my Isuzu Rodeo vehicle. I received this campaign notice after the incident. When I contacted Isuzu to request reimbursement for the damage I received I was told that they would not be held liable since this is only an "safety improvement campaign" and not a safety recall. This seems contradictory to what is implied and I would like to file a complaint against Isuzu in their handling of this matter and to document that this is a potentially hazardous defect.

At about 65,000 miles, the engine has been burning 1/2 quart of oil every 200-300 miles. Not leaking onto the ground and do not see in the exhaust. Anti-lock brake system (ABS) light comes on and off when going over bumps. The ABS sensor connection on the rear axle is always loose. Gas gauge not reading proper level. Have been through 5 in-dash cd changers.

Multiple occurrences of brake/ABS malfunction when applying brakes, with the vehicle in motion at relatively low speeds - approx less than 20 mph. In each occurrence the brake pedal strongly resists foot pressure, braking action is minimal-to-nonexistent, and the ABS unit emits a groaning/grinding sound from vicinity of the engine compartment. In these situations there is a high risk of collision with stationary vehicles ahead in traffic. As greater pressure is applied to the brake pedal in an attempt to stop the vehicle, in some instances the faulty ABS action abruptly ends - causing the vehicle to jerk to a sudden stop. This behavior risks causing a collision by closely following vehicles. After each of these malfunctions, the ABS light on the console appears and there are no further malfunctions during that particular trip. Driver has removed the ABS fuse to prevent the problem from re- occurring.

I was never informed of some recalls on my 1999 Isuzu Rodeo. I am having some of the problems stated in the description of the recalls. My ABS brake light is going on and off and I am having some trouble stopping. My check engine light is coming on and when sitting still the car acts as though it is going to cut off. It is running really hard when I come to a stop. I believe that these have to do with the recall. Another problem that I am having is my gas gauge is not registering how much gas is in the car and the gas light stays on constantly. I know that it is full because the gas pump stops.

I have 1999 Isuzu Rodeo. I got the ABS keep running and got a light on problem recently and I got the ABS diagnostic at dealer and they said I have ABS short and need to replace ABS module. I checked the recall on this vehicle and found ABS recall starting 1998 model. I already have three accidents from extended stopping distances before. Is it possible to get mine to get the recall service?

When I try to stop my 99 Rodeo about 1 out of 5 times the brake pedal will pulsate very fast accompanied by a sound (like a quiet machine gun) coming from the engine compartment. This is the ABS kicking in. Dealer says I'm not covered. Have contacted Isuzu but only get answering machine. Reading on an Isuzu forum (not sponsored by Isuzu), this seems to be a known and common problem with Rodeo's that Isuzu doesn't want to address if your out of warranty. My 99 has 29,000 miles on it but it is over 3 years. I bought it new.

Oem tires wear out quickly, my wife and I owned 2 of these vehicles. One with yokohamas one with goodyears. Uneven tread wear resultin in tire cupping and very rough ride. Her Rodeo was a ls 4WD mine is a 2wd base model. I look at tires on other Rodeos I come across in parking lots and all show signs of uneven wear. Also ABS system is junk. Any stop not executed on even level pavement results in loud grinding noise and very long braking distances. This is obviously a major problem with these vehicles and I consider it very dangerous. It's almost as if the "computer" gets confused and resets during anything other than ideal braking conditions. Please investigate this issue further! my brakes just failed the other day as I was backing up and I hit another car.

When driving on bumpy roads or in wet conditions ABS brakes ingage unnecesserally causing increased vehicle stopping distance. This has happened on three occasions scarying the hell out of me. On approaching a T-junction in wet conditions, I applied the brakes in normal fashion and a loud juddering noise was heard. Brake pedal went soft, vehicle lurched fwd and finally stopped in the middle of the intersection. Luckily no traffic was coming otherwise a serious accident could have occurred. I have disconnected the ABS since as the vehicle is uncontrollable in these situations.
