The engine started burning oil and making clanking noises. I took it to the dealership where they told me that the vehicle will need a full engine replacement. The vehicle has 76k miles and well maintained. Just out of warranty. It's unacceptable for a modern engine to have these sort of problems. And I'm not the only one. I know a lot of people have been having the same issues with this same type of vehicle.

Starting in early 2023 my engine started consuming oil. My car only has 60,000 miles on it. It's ridiculous to do an engine consumption test because this is a known issue with a class action lawsuit having already been filed. There are numerous complaints out there about this issue and yet an engine recall has not been done. Hyundai needs forced to replace these engine NOW before someone is killed with one seizing in traffic. I just did an oil change in February. I clearly don't drive my vehicle often at all. I noticed an issue at acceleration all the sudden it would bog down and not take off. Thinking I needed to change the air filter I did just that and then the check engine light came on. I made it to an O'Reilly auto parts store with a code P0011. I checked my oil to find NOTHING on the dipstick. Second time this year this has happened.

The Hyundai Tucson 2017 we own experienced excessive oil burning, due to what appears to be a known Hyundai Engine failure which can cause the bearings to fail. My Hyundai Tucson appears to need new bearings which requires a full engine replacement based on how this car is made. This particular model does not have a recall on it however several other Hyundai models do for the very same known issue. This engine could have seized while driving at higher speeds on the freeway making this a serious safety matter. There does not appear to be a clear indicator of this excessive oil burning. The car was not leaking oil, was not smoking, but for some reason it was burning all oil between oil changes ( 3,000 miles). This 2017 engine should be able to go 5k miles between oil changes, however that was not the case. From reading various posts from other Hyundai Tucson owners, this issue is impacting more drivers than might be realized. The safety concern this kind of failure poses needs to be reviewed and someone needs to have Hyundai do the right thing and issue the recall for repair this known engine failure. People shouldn't have to lose their lives to get the right safety attention on this issue.

In March 2023 I took my car to the dealership for routine oil change and mentioned that I was having to put oil in the car in between oil changes. The dealership said they would send the information to Hyundai and call me with their response but they never called me. On April 14, 2023 I took the car back to dealership after it started rattling, the engine light came on and the car went into limp mode. I left it at the dealership for 2 days for service. I was told to drive it for 1,000 miles and return for oil check But I had to bring it back to dealership before 1,000 miles because it was burning oil again. I left it at the dealership for 1 day for service I was told to drive it for 1,000 miles and bring it back for oil check. On June13, 2023 I brought the car back to the dealership and after waiting for an hour the tech told me he performed the last step in the oil consumption test and that my car was fine. But the car continues to burn oil and rattles. This is a car that I take to the dealership for routine oil changes since I purchased it in 2016. The engine is under warranty and every time I go to the dealership for this issue I get a different response because they know that Hyundai is aware of this issue with this make and model and it seems like nothing is going to be done about it. I continue calling the dealership for an update from Hyundai but they tell me they haven-??t gotten a response. It-??s obvious nothing is going to be done about this. In the meantime I-??m afraid to drive to far, I-??m continuously putting oil in the car and my warranty is not being honored. This is so frustrating!

Car now only has 69k miles on it and and no mechanic will even do work on it. Says that car is known for engine issue. there is metal particals in the engine oil and oil is burning at large consumptions. Can not even drive car at this moment.

There are no warning lights. My car stalls when I go to take off from a stop. It stalled on an interstate. It acts like there is no power if you put your foot on the gas all the way down It will take off eventually or if you put it in park turn it off and back on it will go without histation. This has happened at stop lights as well. I am scared that I will get hit.

The check engine light started flashing and the vehicle would not go over 25 miles per hour. Thankfully I was pulling into a parking lot when the reduction in speed occurred. If this had happened on the interstate (which I commute on regularly) it could have been extremely dangerous. Hyundai dealership never returned my calls about service, I had the vehicle towed to another service provider (Jensen Tire & Auto) who performed a diagnostic which showed codes P0300/0302/1326/0011. They also said the engine was 2 quarts low on oil and there was no sign of an oil leak. The vehicle mileage was at 74344. I had oil changed at 71579 miles with full synthetic, and at 66230 miles prior to that. There is no sign of oil leak where I park the car. I regularly change my oil and service my car according to the manufacturer recommendation (just not at the dealership). This problem is not on the recall list for this vehicle, yet there are several instances of this posted in online forums. (https://). This problem is not due to lack of proper care, but to a dangerous defect in the Tuscon 2017 engine that misuses oil and causes a sudden an unexpected decrease in acceleration.

I am writing to bring a critical matter to your attention concerning my 2017 Hyundai Tucson. On July 1st, 2021, while driving my vehicle, I encountered a sudden loss of engine power with no prior warning. Concurrently, the engine light illuminated and began flashing, indicating a severe problem. After reaching the AutoZone store located at 720 Dairy Ashford, I promptly explained the situation to their staff, who graciously conducted a diagnostic check on my vehicle. To my astonishment, they informed me that my car had a complete lack of engine oil, and Code #P1326 was being displayed, despite recently undergoing servicing at North Freeway Hyundai for an open recall and at my local Firestone. Both service centers even performed a complimentary inspection, during which no issues were reported regarding the engine oil level. However, I did inform the Firestone location about a noticeable difference in performance before they serviced my vehicle, which was duly noted in the report. This leads me to assume that the engine was displaying signs of damage before my visit to Firestone.

my 2017 Tucson started using more oil between oil changes back in January/Feb of this year (2023). I took it to the Hyundai dealership I purchased it from & they performed an 'oil test' on it @ that time. It past the test & they told me everything was fine. On Good Friday 4/7/23 I had an oil change, again was told everything looked good & was fine. On Friday 5/12/23 (5 weeks to the day)I was on way home from work, my vehicle started to make a horrible banging noise. Soon as I got home, my husband checked it & vehicle was down 4 quarts of oil. Not one sensor light came on warning me of this either. How in 5 weeks did vehicle consume 4 qrts? I park on pavement and there are ZERO oil puddles under vehicle. I had vehicle towed back to the same dealership, I was told engine was blown and there was nothing they could do for fixing it unless I wanted to pay (no warranty) because I have 117K on vehicle. I also spoke with Hyundai corporate and they told me the same thing. I have a 1.6 GDI engine. That particular one is not recalled (yet) but, it has the EXACT SAME ISSUES as every other Kia and Hyundai that is being recalled. With the complaints & concerns I had with it and its a KNOWN issue for Hyundai motors having this issue, why wasn't I offered a knock sensor to help prevent this" How did vehicle consume 4 quarts in 5 wks & not one warning light came on? How can the dealership/company stand behind faulty vehicles" These are not little fixes and right now, we cant fix ours becuase we cant afford it. We are paying our monthly loan payment on a dead horse, so to speak. I called a lawyer and unfortunately, I was told they cant help me. Someone has to hold these companies accountable for known faulty equipment. I was lucky vehicle didn't catch on fire or it just 'died' and and accident occurred due to it.

Vehicle has approx. 86,000 miles on it. Engine light came on in the middle of the desert. Was able to get vehicle into Hyundai dealership and they are recommending a new engine (upper engine problem specifically a valve issue; however, cannot guarantee for $8,000 price tag that just fixing the valve would totally fix the problem. Hence, the brand new engine recommendation). Not under manufacturer's warranty due to second ownership. TV commercials & website show first owner warranty info only, not second owner info. Feels misleading on Hyundai's part. Being stranded in the middle of the desert could be life-threatening when engine goes out. I've seen numerous engine complaints on the NHTSA website; however, would like to see an investigation into 2017 Hyundai Tuscon engines and why they are having so many verifiable problems. Dealerships can hide behind the facts that this specific VIN# related engine has not had a recall. (Other 2017 Hyundai Tuscon engines have had recall issues, but our vehicle based on VIN# has not). This should be investigated and changed.

I have had engine problems with this car since I purchased in 2017. These issues range from transmission overheating, water pump replacement, and most recently, the car's engine failed while driving. The vehicle is now with the Hyundai dealer, who confirmed that a new engine replacement is required. My wife, toddler and 6-year old son where in the car when it failed while stopped in traffic. The car has excessive oil burn; therefore, I would purchase and add oil every 2-3 months to ensure oil levels do not reach an unsafe level, on top of regular oil changes. The oil light has never turned on despite these issues. The engine light came on only once after managing to restart the car and struggling to get the car to the Hyundai dealership after numerous start and stops on the way. For a car with less than 100k miles (6 years old), the car is the highest maintenance and poorest quality car I have ever owned. The car is unsafe and I have genuine concerns about other peoples' safety as it relates to the engine in this Hyundai Tucson. Additionally, my wife and I are not aggressive drivers and both have excellent driving records. We always take good care of our vehicles. This car was simply built poorly, as confirmed by the Hyundai dealership after stating that I need engine. I will contact again if Hyundai does not honor the warranty for this vehicle (10 year, 100k mile, original owner).

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, an abnormal knocking sound started with the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the oil level was extremely low. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to service recall NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V727000 (Engine); however, the recall was not related to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000. The consumer stated that the vehicle was not repaired. The issue still persists, and the oil light never comes on. An oil consumption test from the mechanic was requested and the vehicle is to be checked after 1000 miles. Unfortunately, the oil only lasts approximately 400-600 miles before the engine starts knocking.

Engine needs replacement, possibly due to worn rod bearings. This matches the issue with Hyundai recall #209, which was for approximately 100,000 of the same year Tuscons. However, I was excluded from the recall and Hyundai now will not consider this a recall issue, even though it appears to be the same defect
