My 2017 Hyundai Tuscon excessively consumed oil. I took it into Hyundai of Kirkland. I was informed an Oil Consumption test would be completed by the Service Advisor, Chris Z. First I had my oil changed, then I was told to bring the car back in around 1000 miles. the first time I brought the car in, I was over 1000 miles. Chris informed me he would rather me bring the car back in under 1000 miles than over 1000 miles. We are getting a Knock sensor ERROR & Oil consumption issue. So last year I had a few recalls on my car, I took it to the dealer for then to do the updates. One of the recalls was the knock sensor. Also last year, the check engine light come on and Tires plus said it was my Knock sensor. Tires Plus cleared the code and it was fine until I had an oil change due this month I still had 3000 miles before it was due and the check engine light came on again, But this time I couldn't drive over 20 mph. I had to get it towed to a mechanic in Collegeville. His diagnostics was it was the knock sensor, He told me that Hyundai knows this is a problem but won-??t fix it until it presents a problem. That being said The Collegeville Mechanic said its called a quiet recall. When I called Hyundai corp. recall center they told me that they don-??t recognize quiet recalls. I had an appointment with the Springfield Hyundai Aug. 3, 2023 They would even look at it because the code was cleared but I called them first when it happened to get it towed there and they push the appointment back 3 weeks. I couldn't wait I need to get to work. I Also Recently 9/18/2023 Conicelli Hyundai and the guy told me when I got there that they have a whole lot full of Hyundai's that need Oil consumption test and would be able to look at my care un till March of 2024 That I have to take it back to where I bought it. Hyundai and Kia know of this issue but wont fix. WHY? I hope you can help me because I'm at a loss here and I have only had this car for 2 yrs I should be having this issue. I take good care if my car.

When proceeding to move forward, the vehicle will sputter. Almost as if the vehicle is out of gas or not getting enough power to smoothly accelerate. This presents a very hazardous condition when leaving a red light or crossing an intersection. The vehicle jerks and sputters for about 2-4 seconds and then responds to the gas pedal and accelerates. Took it to the dealer and explained the problem and they said it's a known problem but there hasn't been a recommended fix and to drive the vehicle with the Turbo mode on. Even with Turbo mode on, the issue still persists.

Engine was experiencing issues as described in the existing safety recall for 2017 Hyundai Tucsons (failed knock test at Hyundai dealer). Hyundai is only covering one half of the cost as they say it is not covered by the existing recall.

  • 81,091 miles
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle stalled but restarted. The check engine warning light was illuminated. While having an oil change at an independent mechanic, the contact was informed that the oil level was extremely low. The mechanic suggested to the contact to check the oil level regularly. The contact added approximately a 1/2 quart per month but had to add more oil over time. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where the spark plugs, and ignition coil were replaced. The dealer performed two oil consumption tests however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed her that there was no compression in the engine. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 81,091.

6 Mar 2023 check engine light comes on. Took to my mechanic (they were closest to me) to put on machine to find out what the problem was; they state that it was the knock sensor and said to take it to the dealership and also let them know that it was down one quart of oil since the last oil change Jan 2023). Dealership took possession of vehicle on 8 March 23. Didn't begin repairs until 5 Apr. Then they state there was still noise from engine and found scoring on the cylinder walls and may be why it's consuming oil. Then they wanted oil change records. Finally, after providing records, "Hyundai approved replacement of engine". Legal battle ensued because they were charging for parts (lifters) that were no longer on my vehicle. Ended up having to pay for the full invoice after bullying and terroristic tactics only to have the check engine light come on again (picked up the evening of 15 Aug 23, CEL came on at 06:00 on 18 Aug 23). Eminent engine failure, limp mode and/or fire potential make me afraid to keep my vehicle but financially, I must keep it a while longer.

Was driving down the road when it started making a metallic noises then all of a sudden the car sputtered, shot flames and smoke out from underneath the car and metal debris went flying. I had to tow my car to the dealership where they still have it. They said there is a hole in the engine block where a rod was thrown. After this incident we looked more into the problem to find that other Hyundaia have had the same issue. No check engine light came on, the car didn't over heat or anything it was random.

My Hyundai Tuscon has started to burn oil in 5/22 and I brought the car to the dealer (Pugi Hyundai in Downers Grove, IL) and the dealer at the time was directed by Hyundai that the vehicle needed to wait to do an oil consumption test. In 2-23 the vehicle was taken to Wilkens Hyundai and they preformed work on it. The vehicle still continued to burn oil. Hyundai stated I could not pull the dipstick and check oil. in 6-23, the I made a rapid stop in the vehicle and the oil pressure light briefly displayed and the engine started lightly sputtering at highway speeds causing a brief loss of power. At the same time, there was a brief period of blue smoke emitting from the exhaust causing visibility issues for me and other drivers. This event put me and other drivers at risk, The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer multiple times and it has not been determined the cause of failure and I am unable to check my oil during the oil consumption tests, putting me and other drivers at risk due to a potential stalled engine or seized engine due to loss of oil pressure.

Excess Oil Consumption, Gear slipping, Dual Clutch, Fly Wheel, Oil found in the Turbo inlet, Clutch dust found in the transmission, Encouraged to just keep adding oil and drive the vehicle. Encouraged to drive the car when there was assumed to have contaminated transmission fluid. Encouraged to keep extra oil in my car since it was consuming oil rapidly but was still considered with in specification from Hyundai. Encouraged to add oil and drive the car after it stalled and quit working. This is a known defect with Hyundai's. Some even catch fire and also stall at high speeds while being driven. This is irresponsible, hazardous, and neglectful behavior that could have hurt or even worse killed someone.

I am not a mechanic but when I drive my vehicle, I feel like it doesn't have enough amps to move it along like it's missing something. I have pressed on the accelerator and heard a "winding noise" like the little engine that could but wants to. This is a horrible car!!! I have only had this vehicle for a month and it's a nightmare to drive. It sometimes does not accelerate, and the take-off is unbearable gives me the impression I will be rear ended one day. It even jerks and sputters, even the "rpm" feature shows high acceleration at inopportune times. I had a diagnostic performed and was told the plugs and ignition coils needed to be changed so I did that to the tune of $400 for the parts, and now not even a week later I am being told I need to change them again. How can this situation be rectified? I don't have another $400 every month in addition to the payment and insurance to replace those things every month. I want to know if you all have a fix for this to prevent all this unnecessary money from being spent. I am aware that a tune up is necessary but every month. Please tell me how this can be fixed thank you.

There is a problem with the dual clutch transmission on this 2017 Hyundai Tucson. There was a class action suit filed 2016 for transmission defects including the hesitation and shuddering issue and also grinding noises. I purchased this vehicle in 2020 with only 6600 (yes, hundred) miles not knowing of any problem or issues. 2023 in Tucson AZ when the weather started getting very warm end May, June I started noticing a bit of hesitation, sometimes like a grinding noise. This was not happening all of the time but from the reviews it happens when it gets warm. The shaking or shuddering as they call it and hesitation is very prominent and continuous now. When I had my car in for oil change in Tucson at the Hyundai dealer the service manager even drove it and said it was the dual clutch transmission. I asked about replacing the transmission then and he said that I did not have a warranty. That was another issue as I was told by Hyundai corporate before buying the vehicle that the 100,000 warranty would transfer to me. I found out in July it did not. I opened a case with Hyundai service who contacted Eastside Hyundai and I even got a call from the svc mngr who drove the vehicle. He said that Hyundai would not end up covering it all even if they said they would, they may have to have car for awhile and I would need a rental, and anything else negative about the situation. That manager never called back so caseworker called another dealer numerous times and said that they could check out my car in November. This vehicle is getting worse and possibly a danger. Hyndai take is November, take it or leave it and thats all they can do. This can cause long term damage to the engine and other parts. I need some help with this if possible before resulting in litigation. Are you able to advise on this issue and if you have even heard about. No accident has occured with this vehicle YET. I have approximately 21,000 mile on my vehicle now.

Oil drain plug fell out while driving down the highway and oil drained from engine causing internal engine damage. Low oil light came on and engine stalled within seconds. No warnings or lights were on before this happened. Stuck on the side of road for an hour with my family. Had it towed to Hyundai. Tech said drain plug was laying in the skid plate. No oil left in engine. They replaced filter and filled with oil the idled the car for some time and test drove. Tech said no power and there is internal engine damage. Service rep told me to call oil change facility where serviced last. They said cause was human error so warranty will not cover repairs. My car is still sitting at the dealership. Valvoline express care last serviced 22 days and 1336 miles before the drain plug fell out. Valvoline directed me to NHTSA investigation for this issue.
