I purchased a used 2013 Hyundai Sonata and in less than a month it was stolen! The police told me that Hyundai has a huge problem with vehicle theft because the manufacturer has built in design flaws that make it the easiest car in the world to steal. The thieves did not even have to break my window even though they were completely up and the car was locked! From what I see on the internet, Hyundai has never addressed the problem and should have voluntarily recalled the vehicles and fixed them! Why has this been allowed to happen when both the federal/state governments and NTSB are aware of such a gigantic problem that is causing extreme financial burden to Hyundai owners?
The Engine Seized and went into limp mode. This happens on June 2 2021. It effected the turbocharger and the Engine tube fuel line. It is covered under the recall. It is currently at Spradly Hyundai in Pueblo Colorado. I have been waiting for 3 months to have it fixed and they had no loaner so I have had to pay for a rental before I got the rental I lost my job because I didn't have a way to get to work. I have spent almost 4,000 in rental which come to find out they only will pay upto $40 a day on a rental which there is no rental company that you can get a rental less then $92 a day. I have loss so much income and money because of this recall. I had just bought the car 5 weeks before this happened and I have not even been able to make my first car payment. So it will probably be repossed once I get it back. Thanks Hyundai I will never buy anouther car from this manufacturing company. I
My 2013 Hyundai Sonata has been declared totaled by my auto insurance company and "unsafe to drive" by Hyundai Corporation. There is a case number associated with my car at Hyundai. While driving down the street my engine begins smoking and everything shuts off. I was scared and uncertain of what was happening. I had to dodge cars to get off the road. I have supplied more than 15 pages of maintenance records, Which has proven I have taken care of my car. The engine has locked. The first representative stated Hyundai Corporate will pay for repairs - a new engine. The second representative stated only if I had a warranty will they assist me. I believe I'm getting the run around.

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid 2013 - computer giving message " Check Charging System " while on the highway speed drops to 40 mpg. I had to stop the car on the roadside.. Hyundai dealer are not helpful. You go to them they just want to charge us $400 for diagnostic test. last week, Hyundai dealer told my car problem is with engine belt and tensioner assembly and I charged $900. but it did not fix the issue. I am not sure if above part was really needed to replaced, now the message on charging system and engine safety ( picture attached ) is too frequent. Ref. engine recall on this 2013 sonata hybrid, Hyundai dealer say car life is finish with 114K miles. and car engine is not issue as decide by Hyundai head office.
The 1st thing that happened was the inside dashboard lights would flicker from nighttime mode to daytime mode. Took it to dealership and they could not get it to replicate. Now when it happens the headlights turn off. It happens a lot more often and seems to be something to do with the column.
Tail lights and brake lights constantly burn out. I've had to replace them multiple times a year. They bulbs get too hot that they melt into wiring harness which can be a fire hazard. I've had to replace the entire tail light because of this issues. I've heard and noticed this problem with a lot of Hyundai's. On the road I notice almost every other Hyundai similar to mine has at least one tail light or brake light out. My car was bought from Hyundai and had the original manufactures bulbs already installed, so this is not an aftermarket issue. I've read on multiple auto complaint blogs about this exact issue. I've been pulled over for the brake light being out which I wasn't even aware of until the officer told me. These bulbs have to be replaced at least 3 times a year. It's a safety hazard as well as a fire hazard. Every auto shop ive been to knows of this issues with Hyundai. I'm afraid to put anything flammable in my truck due to fear of it catching on fire. I spoke to Hyundai and they said that they are unaware of any issues or problems with my model and yet I continue to see mine and other vehicles with missing lights. Hopefully you guys can do something.
My car has stalled five different times over the past week. No warning lights come on. I took my car to the garage and they had the same stalling issue. They cannot locate the problem. I see on other websites that this is a problem for other Sonata owners.
Brake lights on the vehicle remain on and illuminated at all times. The brake lights are on while driving and pedal is not pressed as well as after vehicle is turned off and no one is in the vehicle. I checked the parking brake and it is not on either. I am concerned this will cause issues or accidents for people traveling behind me. Also do not know if this effects the battery in my vehicle. I checked and there was a recall for this very issue on a previous year Sonata and am wondering if it is now an issue for my year model as well.
Dashboard experiencing vertical cracks in five areas and around airbag area. Cruise control would not turn off when break was depressed had to pull over applying brakes and pound on the steering wheel come to a stop. Checked out by manufacture claims it was no problem I have not used control since then.
Sun shade failure on panoramic roof. I was driving and decided to open the sunroof, I heard a loud popping noise. The shade came off track and would not roll up. Sunroof opened up like normal, I immediately pulled not very safe with the excess hanging material blocking visibility. $900+ repair at the dealer.
It started with random electrical/wiring problems. Radio volume, ac suddenly stops working, then starts again, etc... now it starts or doesn't start at random. When it doesn't start, I wait a few minutes to an hour, then it randomly starts without any battery jump or other assistance. Local mechanics are not able to diagnose this issue but tell me it is a common problem with these cars
My 2013 Hyundai Sonata issues: 1. my horn & left side of my steering wheel buttons doesn't work. I was told it could be related to fuses or clockspring replacement. Trip A/B and other buttons doesn't work, I've been driving for over a year without a horn because this isn't a recall. This is a huge safety issue. 2. my gears are start to slip in the transmission. I was told it could be two things it's either the transmission or speed quality censor. These cars were made either very fast or very poorly or both and this is another safety issue. 3. electrical issues. I have to manually adjust by back light/break lights daily because they never stay in place. The whole wiring for this vehicle is horrible. Sometimes while driving the car suddenly starts to slow down. Every once in a while my radio is on but doesn't light up. Light bulbs are melting into light sockets. Electrical issues that are a safety issue for many with these model cars. Eitherway none of these issues were a problem until after Hyundai performed all of the recalls on my vehicle. They charge $200 for a diagnostic that I'm not willing to pay, theses issues came from the makers of this vehicle, these should also be added to the recall list. I'm sure if you look around online there's others who's dealing with these issue from 2013 - 2021 today. I don't think it's fair that I purchased a vehicle and have to come out of pocket for all of these repairs that should have been repaired from the beginning. These are safety issues that should be taken more serious. I've almost got into multiple accidents because my horn doesn't work. My vehicle worked fined before all of the previous recall repairs.my transmission slipping left me in the middle of nowhere until my car started functioning properly to get home.the electrical on this car is costing me money non stop. Hyundai needs to fix this! 2.
Car does not accelerate at random times when pressing gas pedal. Known issues in other year models of the same vehicle and other vehicles from Hyundai with brake pedal stopper. Has been dangerous driving and losing ability to accelerate in middle of intersections.
While the car was in motion, the warning sign came on the display with the following message: Hybrid system failure. Stop. Do not drive. Less than 10 seconds after the warning, the car lost power and stalled in the middle of the street. There was not enough time to pull the car to safety.
August 11 2020 dealer ship told us they change the recall for 189 Y fuel tube. Today 10/26/20 notice strong smell of gasoline within the car. Check the inside the hood found saturated foam cover with fuel that can easily ignite.
I was driving at a normal highway speed of 60 miles per hour on a smooth road and following another car approximately 1/4 mile ahead with nothing overhead when my sunroof spontaneously exploded. I had the sunshade closed at the time.
