I have a 2012 Hyundai Sonata and there is a clicking in the steering wheel. Turned left or right the click is there weather the car is moving or not. I reported this problem a month after I brought this car and was told that it wasn't on the recall list only the 2011 models, but my 2012 is having the same issue. I got this car last year with 49,000 miles on it and now the problem has gotten worse. It shakes so bad now if I hit 65 mph. I have small kids and every time I get into this car there is a fear of me losing control. I see so many of the same complaints, but nothing is being done about it. Hopefully it does not take for a couple of deaths to occur before Hyundai realize that there is a serious problem with the steering. All of us that own a Hyundai with these problems are scared for our lives something has to be done and quick. We gave our hard earned money to have a Sonata now Hyundai needs to look out for us recall these cars please our lives depend on it!!!!!
I heard a light knocking noise when turning steering slightly to the left and right when car was stationary or moving. Light clunk each side. My mechanic disassembled the steering column and removed S fully worn down steering coupler.
The steering wheel makes a loud clucking noise when turning left and right, while driving and while stationary. The steering wheel also shakes when driving on the highway and feels loose like it will come off.
The steering wheel column makes a loud clicking noise when you turn it to the wheel left and to the right. Also when going over bumps the steering column makes the same loud noise. This is very disconcerting due to the potential dangerous situation. This should definitely be a recall due to the high possibility of something catastrophic happening while driving the car. This should be a recall due to the number of people having this same problem!!
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. While operating the vehicle, a loud knocking noise and vibration were present from the steering wheel when turning in either direction. The dealer diagnosed that the electronic coupling inside the steering column was faulty and needed to be replaced. The failure was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,451. Updated 06/07/17 the consumer stated the steering column was making a loud knocking sound when the steering wheel was turned. The steering wheel would shake while driving and became loose as if it were going to separate. Updated 09/07/2017

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. While driving various speeds, the power steering malfunctioned. The contact stated that there was a loud noise coming from the steering column. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,000.
Popping noise when turning the steering wheel left or right while the car is in motion especially in a tight maneuver when parking or backing up. After reading about many complaints on the internet where some drivers have even lost T;heir power steering completely, I am of the opinion that a recall is warranted as this is definitely a safety issue. The culprit in most of the complaints seems to be an inexpensive part made of rubber or neoprene called a "flexible motor driven power steering coupling". as this part begins to fail, serious steering problems begin to appear which could lead to injury or even death.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. While driving various speeds, a loud knocking sound was heard coming from the steering column. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The dealer diagnosed that there was a loose rod in the steering column. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 148,000.
My 2012 Hyundai Sonata steering wheel makes clunking noise when it is turned. The steering wheel also rattles when the car is going at high speed or going over rougher surface. This was reported by the previous owner of the vehicle also and it appears to be getting worse.
Steering wheel is loose, vibrates, clicks, very loose steering, not good control seems the steering wheel is defective somehow because there is a lot of play in the steering wether driving straight or turning
Steering wheel would make a clacking noise when the steering wheel was turned or when going over bumps in the road. The speed of the vehicle did not matter. An audible click could be heard when the wheel was turned to the right. When the car went over any speed bumps or pot holes, a clacking noise could be heard from inside the steering wheel. Took it to the dealership and found that the steering coupler was completely worn down. It started very subtly for a few months, but then within a month, would make noise with even the slightest movements or bumps.
On 9/29/2016, I reported an issue to the dealership (jim burke automotive) with the steering making a loud thump when turning (slightly). The service person reported "car needs mdps coupling" and the charge would be $350(!). I expressed a concern that this was not a recall or covered by the manufacturer. I believe it to be a safety issue. I've seen many postings on the internet about this problem and that the part involved has been redesigned 2 or 3 times. Additionally, a respected local repair (robe manns) refused to make the repair and that I should take it to the dealer for warranty repair. I also understand (according to the manufacturer) that the repair would have been covered if the car had under 50,000 miles. The problem is that the issue starts well before 50,000 miles but does not seem significant because it is so subtle. I also understand that this was a reported problem on the 2011 model year and may have had a recall - if so, the 2012 should also because it is still a problem. The problem occurs at any speed or even stopped when turning.
I am the owner of a 2012 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T. We've had the vehicle for almost five years, and about six months ago, we starting noticing a "clicking" sound in the steering wheel column. What makes it even more alarming is that the loud clicking sound happens while driving and while hitting any bump on the road. This is definitely very alarming, especially after investigating and finding out that there are a ton of complaints for the same in this 2012 vehicle, as well as earlier models. The conclusion appears to be the steering coupling (a rubber), where there was already a recall for older models but not this 2012 Hyundai Sonata. This is very concerning as my entire family is at risk of a car accident, including two small children. Please investigate and/or have a recall for what should have been fixed already on newer models. This is very urgent.
My Hyundai Sonata has had a really loud and annoying rattling sound coming from the steering wheel since maybe last year. It started out little to no noise at all and now almost a year later, even driving causes it to rattle. If I hit a bump, it's so loud that it scares my passengers. I have also noticed that I am unable to, at very random times, keep control of steering for a second or two. This is getting too dangerous for my comfort! I have called Hyundai on this and they have told me that this issue is with the steering column and that it is a recall item for 2011. This should be extended to 2012 as well. Whether in motion or not in motion, steering makes a loud clicking noise when turned side to side, it feels loose. While in motion, on highway, steering will begin to wobble and shake uncontrollably, then stops as suddenly as it started.
75,000 miles, Hyundai dealership informing me I have a clicking noise when turning the steering wheel. Apparently it is a common problem with a plastic spider gear and dealership wants $489 to replace. Car could lose steering control. I see on the internet this is a widely reported issue but no recalls?
The steering wheel is making a clicking sound and has a little slack in it. I took it to a local repair shop they sent me to the dealer saying that he seen so many of them he knows it has to be a recall by now and that they should take care of the cost. My husband called Nissan's complaint center and they made arrangements for me to have a loaner car. I was to bring the car in to be looked at the following morning at 7:30 when I arrived I was supposed to see a woman name holly she was very rude she told me that she wasn't giving me a loaner because it's no longer under warranty and then I'd have to pay full price for the repair which is $180 more than what I was quoted at the local car pair shop. I was told by a few Hyundai owners that it was a recall item however it was on 2011 I believe that this should be a recall item on 2012 as well. This problem happens on the highway I'm just local streets every time you hit a bump it has a terrible rattle I believe it's on safe just a matter time that the power steering is going to go out and I think that they need to make the repair. However I'm on jury duty as I explained to them for the next six weeks I happen to have today off but I don't know when I'll have another day off and it's a long day.
